One thing that gets your attention when you first enter the house is the smell of freshly baked bread. Of course, the house itself is impressive - bedrooms are spacious and clean; bathrooms are spotless and have all you need; large, well equipped shared kitchen - there are several bottles of home-made jam in the fridge which is large enough to store your own food if you wish - milk is provided but you'll need to get your own fruits, eggs, yogurt, etc; little "alcove" with computer and printer; spacious shared living room with large TV; lovely patio in the back with barbecue. The free wifi was fast and reliable from anywhere in the house.  The laundry room has a large top-loading washing machine with detergent provided.  The dryer is coin operated but you can also use the clothes lines outside.

I stayed here twice during my trip - two nights when I arrived in Christchurch and another two nights (after driving around the South Island) before leaving for Wellington.  The first time I was in the room with two single beds and a couple of bunks.  The second time was in the room with a double bed although I slept on a single roll-away bed.  Both rooms were en suite and very comfortable.  I'm used to firmer mattresses but was quite comfortable nevertheless.

The location is very good especially if you have a car which I did and was provided with off-street parking.  But you can easily manage on foot or by using the nearby public transportation.  Westfield (formerly Riccarton) Shopping Centre is just an easy 10-minute walk away.  The University of Canterbury and Hagley Park are both only about 1 km away.  Rattray St is off Riccarton Rd where the airport bus traverses.  And the city centre is no more than 15 minutes by bus.

Perhaps most appealing about Rattray Rendezvous is Mary, the owner, who is a very friendly, helpful and accommodating host. I had communicated with her via email before arriving and she always responded very promptly and fully to any questions I had.  We had several conversations during my stay and it was like talking with an old friend.  If I happen to travel to Christchurch again, RR would be my first choice.

Charming place and wonderful host

This is a beautiful, modern house with handsome decor and high quality furnishings  on a quiet street in a neighborhood close to shopping and to many of Christchurch's attractions. I frequently visit Christchurch, and this is the nicest place I have ever stayed in.  There's a fully equipped kitchen, a large attractive lounge area with cable TV, free internet access, and a host of amenities designed to make one's stay easy and comfortable - e.g. umbrellas that can be borrowed.  The host, Mary Harrow, is extremely kind, thoughtful, and helpful. This place is a gem.

Great place in a great location

Well, to make it clear, we could not have chosen a better pick in Christchurch!!
The place is lovely, rooms are spacious and big (and I have tried them all!!), all with modern ensuite, kitchen is modern and large, everything is clean and big. The garden is nice and has a barbecue that you can use. There is just not a single thing not to like in this place.
Mary, the guest, is a truly awesome lady, very friendly and accommodating. And she makes home-made brad for you to enjoy for breakfast!
It has 3 rooms only so you should not worry about the shared kitchen or living room; you'll feel at home (except it is way bigger than my home!)

It is not "that" close from the town center, but it isn't far either; only a 5 to 10 minutes drive and it is not that difficult to park in Chirstchurch.

I would give 6 stars if I could, the place is truly awesome.
Because we actually had flights from Christchurch during our trip, we ended up doing 3 stays there. And we'll go back without a doubt if we ever go back to Christchurch!!

Perfect stay in Christchruch

What a unique, lovely place to stay! Beautiful interior design and décor with all the amenities of a first class hotel with the quiet, homely feel that you'd get when you visit your favorite relative. Mary, our host has managed to balance her visitors privacy with as much or as little interaction with other guests as you want. The cleanliness of our room and en-suite was second to none. The bed was firm but very comfortable and allowed a restful sleep. With the house being in a residential area, there was no problem with excess noise. Location is perfect as just a short walk away are plenty of shops to browse around. If you are traveling around Christchurch, and are tired of the impersonal feeling that you get from traditional accommodation, definitely give this place a go. Don't be put off by the communal kitchen as this house only has a couple other guests, so you pretty much get the kitchen to yourself. It also has a well stocked pantry and fridge with home made (yes, home made!) jams and preserves. This place is perfect for anyone looking for something a bit more upmarket, but with that homely feeling.

My husband and I were visiting Christchurch for a couple days

This is a very convenient and well run home stay in Riccarton. It is a lovely warm modern house with a huge kitchen and lounge. I used it to visit my children attending university in Christchurch. It was clean, comfortable and close to Riccarton Mall (a few minutes walk). Each room had its own ensuite and the kitchen was shared, I cooked a meal one evening and we ate in the lounge. I was very comfortable and would happily return.
