Beautiful quiet bush retreat, just what we needed, no people, lovely bush and river swims.  Close enough to town to be able to drive and get a coffee but far enough away to feel entirely off grid. Was wondeful - just what we both needed.  Mosquitos are a pain but expected on the coast in the bush

Peace and quiet off grid

We stayed here 1 night and loved it. We were lucky enough to have the property to ourselves, but would be great anyway.  Room was very warm and the main living room has a wood burner stove in which heated and gave great character. 

Great experience

We loved our stay at Beaconstone! After a harrowing day in our camper van, we decided we needed some reprieve and a real roof over our heads. Greg was very hospitable and kind. We had a nice chat about the camper van, and he was more than welcoming when getting us set up in the lodge.

We had the place to ourselves, so we could enjoy some of the amenities: a beautiful, big kitchen that would be great for groups, a hiking trail, the solar powered lanterns, and hot water bottle heaters for the evening. There are nice touches throughout -- galoshes you can borrow for the mud, crocs to wear around the lodge, travel books and maps, etc. 

The experience was incredibly affordable, Greg was accommodating, and the facilities were awesome. Would 100% recommend staying here.

Beautiful setting and beautiful people. They call it just 2 star accommodation, but its definitely worth more than that. I highly recommend it for a relaxing no-hassles experience. Only ha;f an hour from spectacular Punakaiki Rocks. The nearby Cape Foulwind coastline is quite spectacular too, and we enjoyed a visit to nearby Westport for golf at Carter's Beach and dinner at the Portside cafe and bar. Best views are from the elevated sunshine-recycling toilets

Calmness and Tanquility away from the Hurly-Burly

Really nice place to spend a night or two. 
Place was spotless and had everything you need to make yourself feel at home.
Particularly loved the wood burning stove, made the lodge really cosy and warm.

Relaxing, cosy and clean

Beaconstone Ecolodge is simply beautiful. it sleeps 14 and we booked the whole place out for a gathering of friends. Sharon and Greg are excellent hosts and the environment feels so well cared for. Take sandfly repellent but they were not too bad in January. This is a 'look after yourself' stay and I whole heartedly recommend it for anyone wanting an eco stay (the long drops are great!). Showers are good too and the whole place feels rustic and welcoming. Stunning coasr nearby...about 15 mins south of Westport. Wifi all good but its a great space to go off grid. Loved it.

We booked out the whole place - very affordable!

Loved our stay at Beaconstone.  We had the place to ourselves, and Greg upgraded us to one of the indoor bedrooms, though the garden cottage looked very comfortable anyway.  Beautiful lounge area and excellent kitchen, everything clean, fresh and tastefully appointed.  A real showpiece for sustainable living, all self-contained for electricity, water and sewerage, yet comfortable to the point of luxury.  Stunning view out the lounge window to a pool and surrounding patch of pakihi wetland, with two species of sundews (carnivorous plants) right at the start of the sunset track, and sun orchids (Thelymitra) just starting to flower.  There was also a bittern (critically endangered wetland bird) beside the pond first thing in the morning!  The nearby Cape Foulwind walkway is also well worth a visit.

Amazing place

Beaconstone Ecolodge is not what we expected, no weirdy beardy tie died types, sitting around a fire talking dribble, just a very well presented, modern lodge capable of sleeping  10 people with 2 additional detached units for 2 extra couples. The view from the composting toilet is quite something. Sure there was no TV, didn't miss it for a moment. Surrounded by native bush and bird song, fantastic! There are 2 bush walks, short Sunset walk, stunning views at the end. The other leads down to the river through the bush, quite steep in places but being surrounded by Fantails and Tui is brilliant, we even found what we think was a Kiwi nest. A really good place for a family get together. Hosts Greg and Sharon should be proud of the place and the warm welcome, we without a doubt will be back.

Friendly, welcoming space that lets you shelter from the Coast's rain and damp. 
Beaconstone is just outside Westport, close to Punakaiki but with a view from the hills to the sea. Solid wood construction keeps all the rooms peaceful.

Friendliness: +++ (each a maximum of 3+ or -) Cleanliness: +++ Rooms: +++ We arrived 4 days before the Beaconstone Eco Lodge was closed for the winter and were the only guests. So we had the giant living room and the well-equipped kitchen for ourselves. The owner was incredibly nice and talked with us for a long time. We were happy to accept the offer and walked the path we made to the river, thanks for the rubber boots provided! Price: I would also pay double for this. Adding to the word Eco: take it seriously. The power supply comes from solar panels, so you can't use any of it. Also, TV and WLANs (there is no way to go) So if you want to go outside, you should always go to the backpacker. So if you want to go outside, there should be a good way to go.
