Carters By The Sea Westport

All the units are studio style and are ideal for couples. The units are just like the photos, really clean comfortable and well presented. Location is excellent, just across the road to a great kids playground and the beach.  We stayed in a beachfront unit just lovely to sit out on the little balcony and watch the waves.
There is a nice restaurant next door which is open from breakfast through to dinner.   

Our apartment was located right on the beach, in the peaceful village of Carter's Beach. No issues with entry to the apartment. The apartment was large, the bed was comfortable and everything was in very good condition. There is a restaurant right next door, but we tried the pub up the road at Cape Foulwind for dinner and that was oustanding. We'd love to come back here again!

A great place to stay .A lovely reserve & play area across the road as was the beach . We had a sea front Unit upstairs with amazing views ( it was wet the whole time we were there & unable to sit out on the balcony ) The unit was well equipped , very clean, loved the part open shower , had everything one would need. There is a Great friendly restaurant / Bar  about 100 steps down the road , with great food & wonderful service . The Accommodation is about 10min drive from the township south of Westport . It is a place I would Highly Recommend & would definitely  go back

We enjoyed our stay here with the little balcony.  Really clean unit, well equipped and a lovely range of toiletries.  Friendly check in and helpful staff with advice on activities in the area.  We would stay here again when next in Westport.

Right across from the reserve and Carter’s Beach the Motel is a great place to stay. Modern and clean this motel is a step above your average 1970s style motel that you expect to find in the west coast. Friendly host and fair price. Walk next door for a good dinner. 

Our second time at Carter’s By The Sea and its Nice place to stay right by the sea.

A modern well appointed unit. Very well equipped and comfortable. Nice location by the beach but do really need to go into Westport for supplies and restaurants etc.

Location was lovely and a short drive from Westport.  Great eatery a few metres down the road too.  Immaculate interiors and good local knowledge from the proprietor.

Very relaxing place to stay. Good location; Quiet but some goods things to do in local area. Good restaurant/bar next door.

Our ground floor, ocean view apartment was modern and fresh with a beachside decor. The bed was very comfortable, room was clean and well appointed with everything you’d need for a longer stay. Noise insulation was great!! Wish we’d had a couple of nights here!  The garden is very pretty, with an outdoor grass area for relaxing with a drink. This was a nice point of difference.  So much to enjoy at this location...An excellent cafe/restaurant is located just a few doors along the street. The beach is across the quiet road, as is a really great children’s playground (fenced). Only a 10 minute drive to Westport township and about the same to Cape Foulwind, the seal colony, and some lovely walks. Would definitely stay again.

Great Accommodation and Good Service

Excellent property - fabulous location 

I had originally booked an AirBnB in Greymouth but due to us being booked into a Caving Adventure in Charleston which started early, I canceled and booked Carters.  And boy am I glad!  After our quad bike adventure in Frans Josef and a very long drive, it was lovely to arrive to friendly staff, a spotless, modern, well equipped room.  We loved being able to walk mere metres to the beach for a walk and after many meals out, being able to make our own dinner in the well appointment kitchen.  We had two rooms as there was 4 of us which made the cost - $320 for one night a little bit high but it was worth the comfort.  This is a lovely motel in a stunning location.  I would definitely return.

Clean, Modern, Great Location

On a first time visit to Westport and the surrounding region (the wife and I) couldn't decide where to stay. We wanted a sea view and nearby Carters beach seemed to be worth a look.
We booked into the Beachside apartments and it was a good move. You overlooked the beach (which was about a 100 metre walk to get to) and for bonus value there was a pub / eatery about a 25 metre walk to get to.  The weather was fantastic so it made our stay all the more pleasurable.  The room was spacious and well appointed. Westport is only 5 km away as well.  We arrived unannounced (i like to live dangerously and not plan anything.... occasionally) and the staff were pretty good at sorting something for us.  A great spot that is well worth a visit.

Where to stay in Westport?

We loved the location- a quiet oceanside setting just a few kms from the town of Westport.  The proprieters are very friendly and helpful people.  I enjoyed hearing of Chris's efforts to form the "Untamed Highway"- a network of like minded hosts spanning the length of the mighty West Coast.
Our unit was clean, warm, and well appointed.  Did the trick for a one night stay and represented great value for money. Would certainly return!

A great stay!

I don't , as a rule , write reviews - unless a place has been exceptionally good ( or bad...)
  My wife and I stayed here last weekend for two nights.   The friendly owner was really helpful in suggesting places to go and things to do in the area.   The motel was lovely and quiet. It had good ocean views from our unit window.  The room was very clean and well appointed.  Nice comfy bed , great spa bath.  The motel was in a nice quiet area and easy to get to.  It also has a great pub/restaurant next door with friendly owners and a great menu.
  We will definately be back  - highly recommended for a weekend away.

Fantastic value for money

Hi there,
Felt compelled to write this review, visited the above accommodation just before the NZ lockdown. The apartments are clean and tidy and basically brand new. In a fabulous location close to walks ,Tauranga bay for surfing, Cape foulwind lighthouse, etc. For New Zealanders looking for a getaway post NZ lockdown, this is an ideal location and a great way to support our kiwi hospitality.

The property was modest in size, modern and well maintained. Limited dining options nearby (Donaldos is right next door, but that seems to be all in a Carter’s Beach), however Westport township is only a few minutes drive away.Management were friendly and accommodating, parking available and the unit had a nice patio. Beds were comfy and bathrooms clean and tidy.
