Yes- the place is a little dated. Yes- repairs are required. Yes- the staff are wonderful!. Yes- its in prime position. Yes- the food is wonderful. What more could you ask for? From the staff picking us up at the railway station to checkout, it was a great experience. Drinks by the fireplace, walks in the mountains. It has it.

We stayed one night here, passing through to the West coast. Arthurs Pass is a small place, but we were glad we stopped over. The service was friendly and easy, and we were the only people staying the night so they delivered cereal and milk, fruit and juice to our room the night before, and allowed us a open-ended checkout time. We took advantage of both and had a good walk through town and along some trails before heading off. The room was warm, not large but enough for a night, and the view was lovely from our window!

Set on the main road itself so not difficult to find.  Upon arrival, we were checked in very quickly and taken to our room.  It was basic, but had a decent bed, a small TV, heating, and a small bathroom with a good shower.  The food in the restaurant was very good, there was a log fire in the lounge and board games so you could while some time away there.  The breakfast was continental but enough to get you going.  The staff were efficient and friendly. Recommend a stay for a stopover between the two coasts.

Perfect for what we wanted.

Good stop over

The staff were helpful and friendly.  The chalet is next to one of the main trailheads so it is convenient for that.  Since they were closing down for the season, they weren't open for very many hours so you had to use a back way to get to your room.  This is the kind of place that a tired traveler or college student would be fine with; but you wouldn't want to take your mum here.

Similar to an older hostel or hotel

Accomodation is fairly basic but clean and tidy and perfectly ok for a night or two. It is a bit noisy with not a lot in the way of soundproofing between rooms but this wasn't a huge issue. Location is excellent as a base for exploring all of the surrounding walks. The real surprise was the quality of the food in the restaurant which was first class.
