354 reviewsWe booked a very well priced getaway weekend at Hotel Gulpen. After booking I started reading reviews and got terrified, as some people told weird stories. Openminded I went there with my girlfriend. The hotel looked nice and clean, and not at all oldfashioned as some people said. There were no smells, and there was no streetnoise. I have no idea in what kind of abandoned place these reviewers live, but a main street where only every three to five minutes a car passes during daytime is not what I call a very busy street... The girl at the desk was not only cute (very cute in fact, I should have asked her phone number...) but also very friendly and to the point (it was only a bit weird when she asked that we were two people...we were standing in front of her and said "heuuu, yes...(as far as I know my girlfriend is not pregnant..yet)). The room was nice, spacious and even had (unlike the current fancy hotels) a separate bathroom. Plenty of sockets to plug in my 5 laptops and other devices. The shower was huge, we fitted in both simultanuusly and had a lot of fun. And yes, the walls were kind of thin, but that can also be a bit exciting (naughty smile). We booked an arrangement that included a two course meal. We could choose it to be appetizer and main dish or the latter and dessert. It was great. Other guests going for the 4 course full menu exactly got the same two plates, so they were not playing trichs on us cheap bookers giving us low value food, as some hotels tend to do. We had the same cute funny waitress as welcomed us at the desk, and again I forgot to ask her number (yes I know kind of difficult with my GF along). We had a good sleep. Breakfast was good with a mixture of fresh stuff and classical EU ingredients. Only funny thing was the coffee. I took the thermos to my table but that was not how it had to be done.... Fill up at the coffe station and leave everything there. Some Germans after me made the same mistake. No waste of Coffe I agree, but something I never encountered before. Checking out (with another even more cute lady) I asked why everybody was posting bad reviews and she almost started crying spontanously... There is absolutely nothing wrong with this hotel, but I guess they had the wrong type of guests living in a cave when not travelling. I highly recommend this place for a weekend getaway or for a couple retrait (try those Kamasutra stands in that shower lol...)
