I have stayed in many hostels in many countries of this world and never had a bad experience. It was always a little loud because guests want to party and that is fine: earplugs in and you can sleep. This, however, was something else and sadly I have to say, the worst hostel experience I have ever had.

With a group of girls we booked the chalet (a little wooden house at the end of the hostel's backyard). It was our friend's bacholerette party and we wanted her to have a good time. We came back from dinner and drinks a bit after midnight. When we wanted to order some drinks at the bar shortly before 1am (because you were not allowed to bring your own drinks), we were told they would not serve anyone anymore, only staff members were sitting at the bar drinking.

Okay, pity, we would have loved to have a few more drinks and partied a little longer, but no problem. Around an hour later we went to bed.

2.30: Music is turned up so much that our beds were vibrating (so earplugs would not have helped there either!) From Vengaboys to Foo Fighters - we felt like in the middle of a festival. Not the lullabies we were hoping for.

More and more people came together in the backyard chatting, screaming, having a good time. It was so loud, none of us could sleep. We got out there a few times asking them to be a bit more quiet - didn't help. 

At 3.30 we went to the bar. The girl looked at us signalling that they would not serve anyone anymore - funny, everyone was standing around (clearly not staff members only) with drinks in their hand. We asked some girls and they said that they got their drinks from the bar. So they just didn't want to serve us? Nice, thanks!

Anyhooo, we only wanted to ask when this party would stop. Answer: in 5 minutes - yeah, it didn't, needless to say.

NOW THE BEST BIT: The owner was there as well, completely drunk. When we told him that we would like to sleep, he told us literally "Well, this is a hostel, this is how it works." We tried to argue that this is not how it works, without any success.

Thanks for the hospitality - NOT!

We gave up, went back to bed. At 4.30am they stopped.

Oh yes, on a side note: there was disinfectant at the entrance, but that effort stopped in the toilets on the first floor, where we could not find soap anywhere. Great during a  pandemic! 

I told everything to the girl at the reception the next morning who was very nice, apologizing and saying she would pass it on - obviously it was not her fault.

So yes, that was by far the worst time I have ever had in a hostel. I still can't believe it thinking back. But well, you won't see any of us anymore.

An unforgettable experience - of the worst kind!

I just had the best time at Jorplace. The staff is super nice and helpful, location not far from the beach, lots of Cafés and bars around. Good facilities. Made some great friends there and would come back any time.

Plus: hostel and the bed were clean:
Plus: nice social area, however not so much in use due to the virus
Negative: staff - they tried to make me pay 20e for a spillage of wine on two beds even though I had no idea what they were talking about. They had a miscommunication between their staff members which led to this confusion. It was embarrassing having to justify for something I didn’t do. Then, on my check out (at 10AM) I asked if I can leave my backpack in the storage for a couple of hours and I got a response - sorry, we have a full booking today and need all the space we can get. It seemed like a generic (fu*k off) response because the check in is only from 3 PM and additionally, one regular backpack doesn’t change a lot.
Negative: they have lockers but you have to buy/bring a lock. And I don’t remember reading anything about having to bring a lock on the website (maybe the info is not there or just not easily visible).
Negative: late check in and early check out
Negative: poor breakfast
Negative: too many beds in a room! It was a very small room with only one small window. There was only two of us in the room and the air was still stuffy. I can’t imagine how awful it would be if the room was full (for 6 people).

All in all, it went fine but I would look for a different place next time I’m around.

1 night stay

I stayed six nights at Jorplace.
The staff was extraordinary friendly helpful and nice! Every extra favour I asked for was granted, like depositing my luggage in advance of the check-in or depositing my SUP in the back garden area.

The rooms (I stayed in a seven bed dorm) are very little and if you would be overweight there wouldn't be enough space to lie properly in bed. Nevertheless they are cleaned every day. Showers and Toilet are seperate for everyone, though there are many and cleaned every day, as well. Luckily I was alone during corona in this room. That made my stay very comfortable. The mattresses are very thin though and I tendes to hit my head at a screw on the bed above. Though they immediately tried to buy a coverage for that as I told them.

The breakfast is ok. On weekend days there are croissants. During the week you get white ans whole grain toast, cheese, ham, butter, jam, orange juice, all different kinda of coffee, one kind of cereal, one kind of tea.

The location is highly convinient and close to supermarket (not cheap = Albert Heijn or so) and a drug store (Kruidwids?) and to the beach as well as bars and restaurants.

No food allowed in the rooms or drinks. Alcohol forbidden at all though available at the bar. A nice kitchen and big fridges for everyone. Nice graffiti on the walls. One could definitely feel at home though I think the breakfast could have been better especially if you might be vegan or veggie or trying to eat healthy. Some fruits would have improved the breakfast by far.

Prison beds:
Other guests also described the beds like a prison. Metal bunk beds, mat instead of a proper mattress, with only around 2 feet head room. You enter the bed sideways and constantly hit your head (everyone does).
A room for 2 sleeping 6 in uncomfortable conditions, in fairness even 4 here would be hell.

Management:
Never have I felt the owners of a hostel are so undeserving of their position. They were rude to us, rude to other guests, blunt and at times almost nasty. Complaining constantly about being stressed and putting all their negative energy into the guests. At one point they seemed to argue and then their mood was 5x worse that day.
A group of guests arrived an hour late at 7pm, although the hostel was staffed and almost empty we watched them send the guests away, forced to find new accommodation. The male owner in particular is especially rude and couldn’t care less about guest happiness only increasing income. The woman would also look at you with distaste if she was busy as you tried to talk to her about anything.
It’s nothing but obvious that the management here focus solely on money and not guest comfort since one shower and one toilet is shared by at least 20 people. They’re still adding more bunk beds and making the conditions more crowded. They should not be running a social hostel, full stop.

The breakfast:
Break, ham, cheese, cereal (previous days no cereal and no ham). No effort, no budget spent).

Where are the guests?
Here at the hostel we moved to. People left for other hostels, none returned back to Jor place. My suggestion? Yes it’s a great location and the social area is good but avoid this place. Especially with the owner’s negative attitude and personality towards friendly guests.

Noise:
Every dorm room door slams loudly. It echoes up the corridor and wakes many people up, multiple guests mention this. They also have work going on as they fit more beds into this already cramped hostel.

My review:
Is sadly honest. The social space is good but was closed for 2 nights anyway due to its closure. The management I hope will re-evaluate their processes. I doubt they will made any changes from this.

Prison beds, rude management, lack of sleep

I stayed in the 24 bed dorm and it was surprisingly quiet and chilled.
It's definitely a safe place for women travelling solo.
Shout out to the super friendly staff  too!
Downside: it's a bit noisy outside at night － earplugs recommended!

Great for value & location

Achtung!!! Bed Bugs!!!!!!!! I don't recommend this hostel. It was very expensive. The staff lied to us, they often have Bedbugs and they don't even refund for the nights that you have stayed in the infested hostel!

The location of Jorplace is fantastic if you are heading out for a beach holiday. It’s an hour walk from Den Haag City Center but only five minutes from the beautiful Scheveningen seaside. 

Positive remarks 
- location 
- cleanliness 
- friendly staff 
- kitchen is tidy 

Negative remarks 
- quite loud (had a room towards the main shopping street and a group of five guys as roommates) 
- beds aren’t too big and there’s a small board or something missing to put stuff next the bed 
- bring with your own lock 

All together we loved the place and would definitely come back with friends again.

Perfect location for beach lovers

We were here for a bachelor's party accommodation. We slept in a 6 persons room with two 3-tier bunk beds. The room is not spacious and the space in the beds is limited. No plugs foreseen near the beds. There are only a few of them on ground level. Shared showers are ok. Shared toilets are a bit limited and not always as clean as you'd hope for, but acceptable.
BBQ on friday night is nothing you should stay in for. Short walk to the beach and a good connection with "Den Haag". All in all good atmosphere in the hostel.

Bachelor's party stay

A couple of years ago i moved to Den Haag to study at the KABK (Royal academy of Fine Arts) without having accommodation. I asked the uni where i should stay until i find an apartment and they suggested Jorplace! This was absolutely perfect. The atmosphere was so friendly and fun, helpful staff, the receptionist even gave their phone number to the girl in front of me because they were having car troubles! Plus the location is great, the beach is super close with lots of water activities! Wil def recommend this to anyone travelling towards the same area!
