Hotel van der Weijde

We stayed for a midweek break in this lovely family-run hotel last October when visiting hubby's family who live on the same island in Zeeland, Schouwen Duiveland. The hotel owner was very helpful and friendly and made us feel very much at home. We spent a day cycling 80km around the area which we already know well from visiting over thirty years and it's my hubby's home place. Noordgouwe is a small village and this hotel is a gem. There's a lovely restaurant and the one dinner we had there was delicious. Other evenings we were dining with the family. Bed and breakfast was perfect and we enjoyed a late night drink in the bar watching the locals playing billiards. Rooms all have free wifi and TV - ours even had a balcony where I sat knitting in the lovely sunshine. The hotel is cycling friendly, has secure free parking and is set in lovely gardens. No pool but that's no loss with so much local activity. The Deltawerken on Neeltje Jans is nearby and a great day out for kids where we often went when our kids were younger. We are already booked here for a family wedding trip in September this year and look forward to our return. It's good value in its price range and makes a welcome change from the more impersonal chain hotels we often use in larger cities and towns.
