Hotel De Koegelwieck Terschelling

Similar to the review below, my friend and I also had the best dining experience in years. I had the duckbreast and a apple pie with vanilla ice cream dessert. The table was nicely filled with finger-licking good (side-)dishes. Staff was fast and friendly and the place had a nice ambience. They have an assortment of both Irish and locally brewed bear. - Mar sin leibh! -

Everything about our dinner was perfect: from the very high quality food; attentive service; and pleasant ambience based around the owners love of all things Irish.

The food deserves a special mention. There were a number of interesting menu choices but I started with quite the best mustard soup I've experienced and clearly home-made. Similarly for my wife's fresh pea soup, which wasn't the usual thick green goo, but light and tasty. Main was a bowl of a very tasty Irish stew - or rather, the lamb in a rich sauce and a very lean and tasty beef steak (tournedos) - all served with sides. The blackberry crumble had a lovely twist (I won't spoil the surprise by listing it here). All freshly prepared, nicely presented and good portions.

Service was friendly and efficient and the small room seated 8 or so groups in a warm cosy atmosphere (gezellig or hygge!).

In keeping with the Irish theme, the bar sported Guinness and Murphys Red along with a range of Irish Whiskies.

It's fair to say that this isn't a place for families or kids (though I'm sure they'd be welcomed). But if you're of a certain age and appreciate good food without being drowned out by loud muzak, this is the place for you.

Top marks - we shall return!

Located at the main island road a couple of steps from the local bus stop, the Koegelwieck still retains is tranquillity. It being an Irish pub (though not so damp and dark as many others on the continent), it offers four rooms which are modern, spacious and with sufficient comfort.
We were welcomed by the lady-owner who – just as all staff – was interested in our background and plans. They can help with ideas though they don't push any specific tours. The hotel also has a good restaurant and that shows in the variety offered at breakfast. 
The suites are on the first floor whereto small steps lead you. The decoration at the walls and near the coffee corner show the relationship with islands and Ireland. The room offers a seating area, a table and a bed. Toilet is separated from the bathroom. The latter is a bit narrow and lack some good space for the towels. Also the shower is simple but hot. The matrass is soft but we had a good sleep in any case. Although located at the main road, you only hear the church bell at night. 
The rooms were cleaned and towels changed every day due to the Corona situation. They maintained cleanliness and distance, without being too obvious or demoting the pleasure of your holidays.
We had a good stay here enjoying the possibilities that Terschelling delivers combined with relaxing at the Koegelwieck.

From the outside I expected to enter a pub. But inside the atmosphere is nice and cosy. Friendly staff. We had to wait for a couple of minutes in an small annex, but all the attention (and drinks) to feel welcome. 

The food was very tasteful, the staff friendly and attentive and the wine good. This one of my top picks on Terschelling. 

We stayed in the Ireland Suite for two nights. It was very spacious, cosy and clean. The location was great, there is a beautiful forest nearby which leads to a wide beach. The breakfast was great. The owners were very accommodating, I have a gluten and lactose intolerance and had emailed them asking whether I should bring my own breakfast. They answered asking what I can eat and that they would provide that for me, and they did! So great service!

Yesterday and today we had dinner at this restaurant. The food was good, it was fresh and service was quick and courteous. The menu is limited. Terschelling is a small island so one does not expect the world, but we gladly came back the next day!
And their prices are quite reasonable.

Nice rooms for an affordable price. Breakfast was good with plenty of choice. Only negative remark I can think of is the church with belltower nearby but this was easily fixed with some earplugs while sleeping. You can eat here aswell but I did not have the chance to try out the menu. There are also other restaurants, bike rental and a shop within walking distance. The hotel is located in Hoorn in the east of the island close to a forrest and nature park the Boschplaat close to dunes and the north sea so plenty to see.

Good food, friendly and quick service.

This is a well laid-out hotel with nicely and very tastefully furnished rooms of a decent size. The bathroom is OK with somewhat tight shower space. We would rate it as a 2 star comfort. Reception staff are quite helpful and kind. Unfortunately, WiFi was really not working well, and nowadays this results in frustration as you are trying and wasting your time. Breakfast was served at the table and OK. The price is really low at ~60 Eur for a big room breakfast included.

Not bad, missing a good WiFi though

Very sadly we never made it to this hotel because it is on the island of Terschelling and not in Hoorn on the mainland by the side of the Ijselmere where I had thought I had booked!!

The reason for this confusion occurred because the confirmation of the booking failed to say that the hotel was located on the island of Terschelling and just said Hoorn.

I am attempting to gain compensation for having to pay the full cancellation fee for a mistake that I don't believe I am entirely responsible.
