Gastenverblijf Munnickenheide

I was staying in the area working for my previous employer for about a month in the winter of 2019, however being that it's the netherlands "winter" might be a stretch, by the time I left in early march it was sunny and warm most days and rarely got below freezing, but i did see about 2 cm of snow one day. While getting to know the owners I learned that the property was converted from a farm about 10 years prior to my stay, and given the surroundings that made a lot of sense. Down the street are horse farms and greenhouses, acres of fields whose fruit I am unsure of, and a medium walk to either Den Hout or Terheijden where the Jumbo supermarket is about a half-hour walk down a very lovely canal. In Den Hout there is a cool little green grocer that has The canal itself is about 100 meters from the back door of the guest house and occasionally boats and barges lazily float by along with ducks and sea birds. My room, where I spent a good deal of my time as it was very much a work trip and not a vacation, was lovely and very comfortable. Modern appointments all around, a nice TV, very serviceable en-suite kitchen, the only thing really missing is an oven, but between the 4 burner range, kettle, mini-fridge, and microwave I was very content. There is also a "main kitchen" area if you are staying in one of the rooms without appliances. I discovered one evening when I had a maintenance issue that there is a brewery on the premises! I realize in hindsight that it is advertised but I was pleasantly surprised to be provided with a delicious Blonde while waiting for the fuse to be changed out, which was also done promptly. I really can't say enough good things about my experience here. It felt private but the owners and local conveniences were all very accessible. I enjoyed heading into Breda and Oosterhout in the evenings to grab a bite to eat or do some grocery shopping, and the train to Amsterdam, Brussels, and elsewhere is right in Breda. It is unfortunate that I am unlikely to return to the area for some time, I truly enjoyed myself. Gerry, Gerjo and their daughters were such good hosts, and if you happen to be in the area in late february or early march PLAN FOR CARNIVALE! The southern Netherlands is historically catholic and this traditional party is done very well in Breda. I walked off a train very tired on a Sunday night to be greeted by streets full of young adults in costume, drunk and celebrating, and my only complaint is that i had not planned to join them.
