Hotel Om's Home

A most comfortable stay in windy and dusty Jomsom, after trekking Annapurna circuit. We stayed in the new wing. Comfi beds with electric blankets and a heater in the room. Excellent warm shower. Friendly services. Good food and excellent coffee with live music in the adjacent café. Marpha village is a 20 minutes taxi drive away. 

We stayed at the hotel twice either side of a short trek to Kagbeni and Muktinath. Internet, hot water, heating/air-conditioning provision were all very good, as were the staff who were extremely helpful and friendly. Our room was spacious and well-appointed and the bed very comfortable. The food was very good and a good cup off coffee available at the coffee shop which is part of the hotel. The hotel, the main part of which is a traditional Nepalese building, is centrally located in the town. Overall, we had a thoroughly enjoyable stay and would certainly stay there again if we visit Jomsom in the future.

The stay has a amazing view. People are very helpfull and so warm. They go out of the way to support you. It is an outstanding  place managed with limited resource. The team was very co.operative. The cheese omlete nad honey potato are something to die for . And the trip is jot fullfilled without a khukri punch they make. 

I came to Jomson after spending a night in Muktinath. I had crossed the pass in bad weather, and was keen to experience the best civilization had to offer. I didnt have much expectations from Jomson, but tripadvisor gave good ratings to Hotel Oms Home. 

I walked into a cosy courtyard, and so far it resembled a home stay. Then I noticed a cafe that opened on the main road, adjacent to the hotel which also opened into the courtyard. On the right, there was a glass walled dining area. All three places had great views of the Annapurna range. Just that the cafe and dining area were warm places to soak in the views. The courtyard is great for al-fresco dining in the afternoon. 

Walking further inside, I was greeted with aesthetically pleasing decor. Thoughtfull appointed, with paintings from local artists, flowering plants and paneled walls. A photo of Shri Amitabh Bachhan behind the reception informed me that along-with his crew had stayed in the hotel for the filming of the movie Khuda Gawah in 1984. 

It was then that I was met by Shri Krishna Subedi, the manager of the hotel. I am writing this review because of him. 

I stay in a lot of hotels, and most of them have a simple and unremarkable transaction. Once in a while you come across little gem that makes you make plans to visit again. Oms Home is a well run hotel, crisp linen, clean and cosy rooms, clear communications to ensure expectations are managed well, and then the little flourishes that delight. 

The Hotel has its small apple orchard and Hari from the team gave me a tour of the hotel and shared yarns about the magical land around Jomson. 

A special mention should be made of Shri Subedi. Like a quintessential British butler, Shri Subedi is very refined in his interactions, while communicating a warmth and care that is common the the hospitality of the Indian subcontinent. He was warm and friendly, but without any exaggerated action or speech. The value he brings is also demonstrated in the quiet efficiency of the staff. The food was great, place was clean and the hotel is an example of tightly run ship.  

I stayed there in September 2021, and as the worst of winter (the hotel can handle the weather in the depths of winter, I cant!) is behind us, I find myself planning another trip to the Jomson, primarily to experience the hospitality and warmth of Hotel Oms Home.

Jomsom is a very very tiny town in Nepal which also has the smallest Airport I have ever seen & I heard that flights are usually cancelled. People usually visit Jomsom for trekking or for visiting the Muktinath Temple (the highest Vishnu Temple). There is also the beautiful Dhumba Lake which is very serene. Om's is situated walking distance from the Airport on the main road of Jomsom. It's a nice & cozy place with beautiful view of the snow clad mountains. The view gets even better from the terrace. The good is simple & nice with a coffee shop attached. The rooms are clean & hygienic with electric bed heating to keep you warm & cozy. 

Om's was just fine for one night, and much better than where I stayed in Kagbeni.  The room was clean and the bathroom was adequate. After all, the location is in a remote part of Nepal, so taking that into account, I would stay here again. The best part was the views of the Himalayias and the Cafe next to the hotel that had fantastic coffee, breakfast rolls and super friendly staff.

The hotel was in a beautiful setting in Jomsom, with beautiful views of mountain ranges. The host, Krishna was lovely and very attentive. He upgraded our room for us easily and gave information about the local area. The room was lovely and clean. The only downside was there was no heating. Coming at the beginning of winter temperatures got to a low of -6’C in the night. Krishna provided extra blankets and a hot water bottles for us, which was lovely, but unfortunately we were still cold (coming from a warmer climate). We would have extended our stay if it wasn’t for this aspect. As coming home in the evenings to a cold room, when you weren’t ready for bed, wasn’t too enjoyable. The plus side was there is a great cafe next door (Himilayian Java) that had some heating, great coffee and fantastic staff. When not exploring we spent our time here. The staff gave great tips on sites and areas to see that weren’t frequented by lots of tourists and were always up for a friendly chat. In the evenings the staff in the coffee shop have an informal jam session, which was great to watch and be apart of. In all it was a lovely stay, just be prepared for the cold if coming in a cooler time.

Nothing great for the price you pay to stay at this hotel.

Just fine for one night

Jai Muktinath Visit From Oms 

I came for the fame and comforts of the hotel, I stayed extra for the hospitality from the staff

This place is around 47 years old and has gained some past credibility since they have had celebrity guests many decades back  . 

While the room is large enough, it’s not very clean and the washroom basin was falling off. 
The caretaker takes special care of large groups and fair skinned guests and completely ignores small families even if they pay the same room rent. The dinner is extremely overpriced and cannot be afforded by guides / drivers who may accompany the guests .
The only positive experience  was the Himalayan Cafe attached to the hotel which has wonderful staff and lovely live music and the fact that the open terrace has a great view as to all the hotels on that same lane. 
There are several other options on that one small street or Kagbeni if one needs to stop over.

Across from the airport, the food in the restaurant is good, and people are helpful. Clean. Quiet. The floor in our room was untreated lumber. The bathroom has a shower, but no enclosure so water goes everywhere when used. Also, the hot water is spotty. The WiFi is strong and mostly steady. The main power goes off now and again (welcome to the Mustang) and when it does only a few lights work due to generator capacity. The hotel has no heating, so to keep warm you’ll need to use the electric blanket — assuming there is power. The cafe that’s part of the property is fun, often with live music. In sum: Clean, basic, mostly functional.

Clean, Sort of Functional

Very old hotel, not maintained properly, stayed here 2 days, staff very cooperative, chef was good, food served is simple, freshly cooked, served hot, very satisfying, rotis also available.
Rooms carpets worn-out. They give good rooms only through net booking, our was booking through a agent so they provided their not so good room. At the same time Jomsum is a very small place no star hotel is available. So cant expect much. But newly constructed hotels are better. The muktinath is having better hotels. 
They will arrange all taxi etc but with commission. Just opposite airport.
