We had a lovely stay here! The family were incredibly welcoming. We took part in a wood carving lesson which was great fun! Clean rooms. Great breakfasts included. The roof top where we ate was lovely and you got to meet other travellers. Close to the centre but very quiet! 

Relaxing Stay

Nyatapola provides great value. The family was extremely helpful with advice and went above and beyond when I couldn't pay taxi fare (due to hideous entry tax), they paid for me.  A decent breakfast is provided with the budget price.

Excellent value staying with a Newari family in the heart of Bhaktapur

Worst experience I ever had with hotels.

1. I asked the price for taxi services pick up and drop off. They mentioned in email that “both ways will be 12$”, and I said okay. When I was checking out, they mentioned that one way is 12$ and asking me to pay the money. If not, then I will not having ride back to airport the next day. What was all that about? Lot of discussion went on, and they made me wait for 40 minutes. During the whole time, she was telling that it’s a huge loss for them, and asking me to pay for their mistake. They didn’t even try to understand from my side. They were just thinking about their loss, so selfish and mean. Money is money for everyone. With taxi and hotel stay, I had to pay 2500 rupees, and she asked me to pay 3300 just to make up for their loss. At the end, I had to pay extra 500 rupees for nothing. I never had this bargaining experience with any hotel so far. They didn’t take responsibility for their mistake, instead they were asking others to take that burden. Is it even fair?

2. In the website they mentioned that card is accepted. Since it was my last day in nepal, I didn’t save any money. And at the last minute, they were telling that card is not accepted and bank would charge 5% if card is used. At the end, she hesitantly took my card because she had no other option.

3. Did I pay 250 rupees for just an omelette and a plain toast? It’s like she made breakfast just because she had to, not that she wanted to. Loss of 250 rupees here. If I had expected this, I would have booked a room without free breakfast.

Overall, it’s the worst experience I ever had. Definitely not recommended. I had a loss of 750 rupees for staying in this guest house.

Worst experience

We stayed here for one night and were pleasantly surprised! The family who owns the guest house are very lovely and welcoming. Clean room and bathroom including the basics. They were happy to provide a different breakfast as one of us is allergic to gluten which was a relief as many places don't cater to this. Overall, very happy and highly recommend!

Happy camper!

A great family run guest house right in pottery square. Rooms are large, beds are smallish so best to sleep in separate beds if a couple. A very friendly and helpful family run the guest house. Easy access to Bhaktapur durbar square. Recommended for a short visit.

Great family run guest house

Arrived after 8 hour journey from Chitwan, had to wait in the owner's shop for half an hour for her to return to be told they had overbooked. We were taken over the road to a family members' guest house and told we could have a room there, at the same rate. Feeling ambushed and a little late in the day we initially agreed, but after 30 mins changed our mind and decided to go somewhere else, it wasn't what we booked and definitely wasn't same standard. We also bumped into another guest who had the same problem. Could be a genuine overbooking, or could be using the other place as overspill, which would be fine if they were assisted to get the accommodation to the same standard, which wouldn't be difficult. We notified the new guest house of our decision, went looking for the owner of where we had booked, but she wasn't there, again. What really pissed me off is that she recorded us as a 'No show' which I was notified about by booking.com !

Overbooked

I spent two nights in a basic double room with bathroom. The room and towels were clean, hot water working well. It’s no luxury but for the price all works well and you can get a good sleep, it was silent at night. The guesthouse is run by the most welcoming family, and you can enjoy a freshly cooked breakfast (pancakes, local yogurt, honey...)  in the little sunny terrace, also meeting other travelers. The building itself is a beautiful old wooden house, located in the very centre of the city, with the shop at the ground floor and the rooms on the upper floors. Very recommended!

simple but comfortable with a cozy feeling

We loved everything about this little homestay/shop Modest but clean and comfortable accommodation Manika and her family were warm and welcoming. I wanted to stay longer,I am pretty sure we will come back to this amazing old city.

5 for Personality Hospitality and Location

Staff was very friendly and room was quite spacy. Guest House is located right next to Nyatapola pagoda and Pottery square so moving in Bakhtapur by walk is easy. Best thing about this place was definitely breakfasts! Very yammy. :)
