1995 we were visit Myanmar for 12 days.. That was a memorable tour for us. That time we stay in Thamada hotel for 3 days.. Specious room. Every thing were clean. Bathroom also good and modern equipped. guest friendly staff.simple but fresh breakfadt.  
Very Good location.. Every important place in walking distance . Yangon main railway Station, Renowned  Shodegon pagoda, boyokjo market femous for precious stone and jweleery.lot of budget restaurant near by.
Calm and quite surrounding..  I love to talk and drink free tea with the taxi driver who sat on the restaurant in front of hotel road footpath .  When we talk about to visit the second world war semetry they informe us to visit the japanese soldiers semetry also.. It was worth to visit.. I love thamada hotel.. If we visit Myanmar again i think we stay in that hotel again.. Love u Thamada hotel.

Stay in Hotel Thamada

In February-March 2013 we visited Myanmar. In Yangon and stayed at the Thamada Family Hotel. We booked via Agoda and paid 30 US$ for a double room. The hotel was not that special, but quite cheap for Yangon and the top floors have a great view of Shwedagon Pagoda. The rooms were spacious, with private bathroom, but not too clean. The location is outside the city centre, but close to the Pagoda.

Review for stay in February 2013

I booked this hotel via Agoda for 2 reasons. I/ Proximity to the pagoda and 2/ I wanted somewhere decent (ish) as I was coming from a long journey from Australia and wanted to have something booked when I arrived in Yangon. The room itself was OK- very spacious, clean enough although the bathroom had definitely seen better days. The issue was the smell which bordered on asphyxiating. It was so bad I was almost gagging. It smelled like a thousand trays of used kitty litter. Not just in the room but also the stairwell and the reception area. I suspect it was actually just dried fish but it was really bad. So bad that I ended up not staying there and forking out for another room closer to Sule Paya.
No partial refund but I am not suprised. To be honest I was just happy that I was able to find another room. Unless you have severe sinus problems I would definitely not recommend this place! Apart from the smell, it it is quite far away from the action of downtown and requires taxi's or long walks to get anywhere.

Terrible smell!!

In my view the hotel was awful but that is not my issue. My issue was that it was way overpriced. For the condition of the room,  I should have only paid between $10-15 nd yet I paid $40 dollars. The location is fortuitous as it is near the   Shwedagon  Pagoda but otherwise I would rather have stayed elsewhere and paid a taxi to get to the pagoda. I could have sworn there was something growing in the water tap of the room where I stayed on the second floor. Water was a problem as it was not always available. The water was hot but the shower itself mouldy and disgusting. Seriously needs renovation. I think the owners have no idea how awful the place is coz people keep booking due to the proximity to the pagoda.

Not worth the price

I was visiting Yangon only for one day so all I need is a place to spend the night. The reviews about Thamada Family Hotel are not that encouraging but I still gave it a shot since it was the cheapest option available online. I arrived the hotel past 10 a.m. and I was allowed an early check-in (what a pleasant surprise!). There were two gentlemen at the reception desk, one is Aung and the other is Cho Son. They carried my lugagge to my room at the first floor which saved me a lot trouble since there was no lift. I remember asking for a room at a higher floor but on second thought I would be better off staying in the room at the lower floor. The room has two large beds and a sofa set but still there was plenty of space to move around comfortably. Even the toilet and bathroom was big compared to most rooms you will find in Asia. Water pressure was fantastic! My room has large windows with a view of the street. The curtain was thick enough to block the sunlight. Wi-fi was available inside the room, and internet speed was fast (another pleasant surprise!). When I asked Aung what time his duty will finish he said he will be off for a break. He offered to show me around Yangon which made things a lot easier (pleasant surprise #3). It was raining that day so Aung brought an umbrella. We passed by the People's Park, then walked all the way to the Shwedagon Pagoda. We moved from one attraction to another and on a rainy day.

Notwitstanding all the mixed reviews about Thamada Family Hotel, I finally realized that I made the best decision to stay in this hotel. Aung even brought me to a nearby restaurant for a great dinner then gave me a taste of Burmese nightlife in a karaoke bar. He even arranged my taxi to the airport as early as 4am the following day. I cannot thank Aung and the Thamada Family Hotel for being an excellent host during my short trip to Yangon. I have no hesitation in recomending this hotel to all people coming to Yangon.

Not a Bad Choice After All!

We choose this hotel cause it seems to be close to the Swedagon-Pagoda. "Close" still means a min. 15min. walk on polluted main roads. No taxi-ride from downtown takes that long. After sunset the surrounding area is pretty much dead: only a few restaurants (the thai one called "Mai Thai" is pretty good tough), no bars, only some stray dogs. Given the poor condition of the hotel - won't in-depth comment on the bathroom, really one of the worst I've seen in whole Asia - choose something downtown, possibly within walking distance to the Chinese night-market. I definitely can't recommend staying here.
