Feel like home

At Solidarasia, we have organized custom-made and personalized travels in Southeast Asia for 15 years. We offer country real life experiences, encounters with country locals and to promote some communities project. 

We discovered Thitaw Lay House in 2013 and since then we never changed. It is simply the best, if you like nature, privacy, quietness and authenticity. Their rooms are very comfortable, the breakfast is a real treat and discovery on its own, garden is so peaceful and relaxing.  

As they present themselves, it is a guest house with heart, unique, the kind of places we like to present in our travels.

I love this place

I´ve only been to Kalaw for one night, as I did the the trekking tour from there to Inle Lake. I spent the night in the Thitaw Lay House and it was very nice stay!
It´s about 15 min by foot to the city center and it is a very peaceful place.
The owner is very helpful and the breakfast was very good.

Very good B&B!

We stayed here for 5 days in march 2019. It is a great, calm, green environment to stay. The yard is like a paradise. Staff is truly friendly and breakfast is very nice with fresh ingredients. The rooms are cosy and clean, will all comfort needed, without being to much. It is a nice walk to the center of Kalaw, wich is a great place during day and for a nice dinner in the evening. Excellent place to stay!

Great place!

The place is beautiful and unique. The houses are made of wood and the price is cheap compared to what we expected.
The host recommended us some hikes and he even woke up earlier than usual for making us breakfast.

Great service

Good - Breakfast was nice with a variety of local produce.

Bad - Came here expecting more based on reviews. Had the bungalow at the edge of property. Can be a little dark at night, would do better with a little more lighthing. Room was very big with high ceiling maybe 30m2 with 5-6m ceiling. Bedding felt damp due to the weather which is understandable. Only had one small tiny floor heather. Sockets were placed in non strategic locations. Heater had a short cable rendering it pretty useless. Taking a shower also became a challenge as it was cold. Stay was quite misearable as we felt cold and damp the whole night. In addition, had some weird animal noises which I think is cat + dog.

There are only 4 rooms in Thitaw Ley - 2 Bungalow and 2 in the main building. You might consider Thitaw 2 which is next to the main building.

Cold and Damp

Really nice accommodation - our rooms were spacious, comfortable and clean. The breakfast was really good - there was a great assortment of fruit pancakes, eggs done any way you want etc.. the chef was happy to make what you wanted. Mahindra who runs it is also super friendly and helpful. The location is a nice 5 to 10 mins walk fr the centre in a elevated leafy area. All in all Ireally recommend staying!

3 night Kalaw visit

My lovely wife and I spent two nights at this bed & breakfast when visiting Kalaw. We booked it largely because of the rave reviews on this esteemed site. But to be honest I'm not sure what all the fuss is about. It was OK at best. Certainly nowhere amazing as some other reviews suggest. We have stayed in nicer - and cheaper - places in each of Yangon, Bagan and Mandalay.

Our room was large, clean and decorated to a reasonably good standard. But It smelt damp and musty. Worse still, the bedding was damp, something I have never experienced at any hotel anywhere in the world. There is simply no excuse for this. 

The shower was hot but the towels were thin and rough. The WiFi was the worst I have encountered in two weeks in Myanmar. It was sometimes slow but more often didn't work at all. The garden was very pleasant. It was nice to sit out on the deck o the early evening.

I found the breakfast rather underwhelming in the light of the many rapturous reviews. The fabled banana bread was dry and uninspiring. The regular bread was better and made a pleasant change from the usual awful sliced bread served up elsewhere. The homemade jams are also good. But it was all a bit too western. I would have liked a few more local options.

Not sure what all the fuss is about

A cosy spot among the trees of Kalaw. The shower was a little erratic, it seemed to spew water in every direction except right at you, resulting in the entire bathroom getting wet. Appreciated the mosquito net, as it was quite buggy in the area. Selection for breakfast was rather small, but there is everything you need. The banana bread is good like the reviewers say, but the crepe-like pancakes are divine. So delicious to have one freshly made with local honey. 

About a 15 min walk into the main town area. It gets quite dark at night, we kept a small light with us so we could see on our way back.

Cosy spot

The place was secluded and spotlessly clean. Wonderful balcony to be in the jungle but out of the rain. Great food and easy walking distance to town (15 minutes or so) highly recommended! Very affordable. The only negative is there is no view as the jungle is quite dense.
