Unfortunately our stay at this particular hostel was below par by a long shot. Essentially none of what was promised on the booking happened. The host, Sara, had left for the city within the first hour of us arriving with absolutely no help or information that we really needed. The house was left open and unattended for the entire afternoon and night, all doors unlocked for anyone to wonder in off the street. We had to personally lock the front door to the house with our own locks. We didn’t receive any breakfast as there was nobody in the entire house. The beds had no blankets and were extremely hard, I mean extremely and if they weren’t hard they were completely slumped in the middle making it impossible to sleep on. 

Be careful if you do stay here, the hostess will prompt you to pay for tours and car rides through her and will insist that it’s the only way, even though this is the wrong information and just a money making scam for the vulnerable tourists. Due to this, we have strong reason to believe that because we didn’t book a tour through her and had organised our own way to up north that she informed the army about us being there before booking a place, even though we had organised a hostel once we arrived at our destination. This created unnecessary trouble and we lost an entire day. 
Other travellers we met along the way also had many troubles and horror stories of their stay in this place.

Wouldn’t count on it.

The location is great. Very central and walkable to major sights, stores, etc. The service is really great as well. At times difficult to communicate, but falling back on Google Translate always worked, and the staff always went out of their way to help me.

Sara's mum, Milli, as mentioned in all the reviews before, is the best thing about the place! She made me feel so welcome and like family. I would definitely stay again. The hostel is a bit tricky to find, as you have to access it through the courtyard of the building and the signposts aren't very clear. It is on the second floor, and the stairwell is quite run down and has no light at night, so it's good to come prepared for that. The area is close to the uni and seemed good otherwise, although it can seem a bit dodgy at first. Milli however provided me with a map and pointed out to me the places to go to and so on, so that was great. I had a great experience here as my first night in Mongolia, and would love to return!

Our family stayed there two nights. We all enjoyed our stay very much. The host, Sara's mom, was very kind and helpful during our stay. The location is good to walk around down-town, though it is a bit difficult to find it. Very good value for money and surely recommend for back-back trip or family trip.

Stay in Sara's Guesthouse

This is not a five star hotel, but it comes with the five star Mongolian hospitality. The host is working hard to look after every guest's needs. Thanks so much for such a nice stay, really appreciate it.

Very nice family -owned guesthouse. Sara is very kind and helpful and the whole atmosphere is very family-like, especially having breakfast together in the mornings.

Cosy and feel-like-home stay

Very nice guesthouse. Sara and Nara are really nice and will help you with anything. If you have the chance you should visit Sara's tourist ger camp outside of the city. Highly recommended.

I went to Mongolia to take a quick look and learn something new.  I was NOT disappointed and Sarah's Guest House was just perfect.  The house is quiet and clean with a wonderful breakfast.  Sara makes it like you are at home in this wonderful and interesting country.  English is well spoken and the guests are from everywhere imaginable.  Need tips ?  Sarah is a great resource to have.  Definitely planning to return to Mongolia and Sara's Guest House is where I will want to stay.  Thank you Sarah !

Like a home

I stayed here with my husband for about a week in June 2017 and we really enjoyed our time here. Sara and her husband Nara are excellent hosts, and the property is very clean, attractive, and well organized! Very comfortable as well.Sara and Nara went out of their way to help us organize the logistics of our upcoming 2 month research trip in Mongolia, even taking us to visit their family 100 km west of the city to buy a horse.You will sleep well, enjoy the views and central location, and feel like family when you leave. They really work to help you out, not just trying to make money.
