We booked the hotel via booking.com
They offered free airport shuttle so I contacted them straight away to arrange that. No response... We contacted them again few days later with the same result. In the end we decided not to proceed with the booking as they didn't seem trustworthy

Lack of communication with the property

The hotel is decorated to a very high standard, especially for the price. We were very thankful for the air conditioning. It would have been nice to know if we could have had breakfast and there was no alcohol at the pool bar, but the owner was friendly enough and helped us with taxis etc even though we had a language barrier. Would stay here again. 

Very nice room for good price

I had reserved a deluxe suite at the Korona Hotel for just one night. When we got there it was about 35C outside and the hotel was quite hot. I was worried that they didn't have air conditioning, but it turned out that they were just saving electricity by leaving it off (unbelievable in that heat !). The girl at the front desk was quite pleasant but spoke no english at all, luckily my girlfriend speaks Russian. We were told that the suites were already taken.

She took us up the stairs to a room on the third floor. There is NO elevator and NOBODY offered to get a staff member to carry our bags for us. The room was modern and neat, but small and cramped, and obviously a FAR cry from the suite I had reserved. My girlfriend went to use the bathroom and found dirty towels and NO toilet paper. The cleaning staff had seemingly only done half the room, and I wondered about the sheets. We called the front desk and the girl came up to inspect, went back downstairs and came up with the keys to a different room. This one was considerably bigger (I don't know why we weren't offered this one in the first place if we couldn't have a suite !!!) and all was in order. But as elsewhere in the hotel, the a/c had been off until we got there and it took more than an hour for the room to cool down.

Upon further inspection of the room we realised there was no mini-bar, no safe, no hotel guide, no room service menu, no city guide, and no telephone book. The television had no english channels, the picture cut out intermittently, and the chair was broken. The wi-fi didn't work in the room .... only in the lobby three floors down. Did I mention there was no elevator and no a/c ?

We caught a taxi and went into town for a light supper. When we got back at 8:30pm we walked into a huge graduation party. Ooops, I guess they forgot to mention THAT one !!! The music was so loud the assistant manager had to yell to apologise, but promised it would wrap up early. Our room was right above the second-floor reception hall where the party was pounding. The thumps and screams seemed to be coming from under the bed. I'm not sure what "early" means to the Korona Hotel, but the party went on inside and outside until 2:30am !!!

After less than four hours of sleep, we decided to get up and leave. WHAT ??? There was NO water at all in the hotel. No water to take a shower, no water to brush our teeth, and no way to flush the toilet. The hotel staff offered no help at all, not even a bottle of water. At least a bucket full of water would have helped to flush the toilet.

The breakfast on the patio was nice, but it hardly compensated for the horrible night we'd just had. Remarkably, they had plenty of water to make coffee.

This is the second time we've been to Tiraspol, Moldova. My girlfriend grew up here and the city is beautiful, but the hotel selection is a bit thin. We will definitely NEVER stay at this place again. The hotel is modern and looks great on the outside, but the design is poor and the staff are poorly trained. They could have been quite a bit more considerate, they could have suggested we go somewhere else, and they could have shut the party down at a more reasonable hour.

The Korona Hotel is on the far east side of town and it's far from everything in Tiraspol. There are no restaurants or clubs, no shopping, and no grocery stores nearby. If you want to do anything interesting, you have to get a taxi and go into town. The pool looked nice but we had just come from the beaches of Odessa and didn't have an overwhelming urge to go for a swim. I believe they had a restaurant but the place was so hot, we didn't want to sit there and sweat when there are so many great places to eat in town.

Without anyone saying it, I believe we got a discount on the room .... but for what we had to put up with, it should have been FREE !!!!!

Go somewhere else.
