Lovely place to stay and to experience local life, only about 25 km away from Chisinau.
Three modern, wooden guest houses, each consisting of a sleeping room, living room with a well equipped kitchen, bathroom with a shower are on the grounds next to the Day care centre and a small Elderly people's home that cater for elderly people in need. 
The valuable thing of staying here is that all the proceeds go directly to those social service projects. You can just enjoy the tranquil atmosphere of the place under the beautiful chestnut trees or even join in as a volunteer and participate in various activities of the centre. 

Marshutkas (mini vans that serve as local transport) leave very often to Chisinau, there are also taxis available at the station. The station is about 10 minutes away by walking. If you tell in advance, always helpful staff (English is spoken) can arrange for you transfer to the airport or even sightseeing trips. 

Breakfast is included in the price, lunch and dinner are available for a small fee, but quality varies so you better check what is on the menu for that day. Otherwise there are kitchen facilities in the houses, big supermarket near by, pizzeria and several restaurants in the town. 
Water is not recommended for drinking (just as anywhere in Moldova), but you can get for free filtered, drinking water in the kitchen. Internet is available at the Day care centre where guests have access. Highly recommended place.

lovely place, local experience, you can have tranquil stay or even make friends

I have stayed in the Castania Holiday Cabins on two different occasions for more than a month at a time.  They are so cozy and peaceful with comfortable beds and sufficient supplies for cooking.  The elderly that come to visit the center every day are part of the charm; as a visitor you will have the opportunity to meet many of the local inhabitants as well as interact with the wholly delightful staff.  Everyone is exceedingly warm, friendly, and helpful.  The grounds are beautifully landscaped and the property is fenced off from the road, so you feel safe and enclosed in a lush environment.  This is the best of Moldova - I highly recommend the experience!

Moldovan Oasis

If you are looking to get away from the crowded tourist spots in Chisinau and are looking for a unique Moldovan experience that has an ethical side, this is probably the best place to find in Moldova. In a country with a huge lack of tourist infrastructure and accommodation, this elderly home had the brilliant idea of renting bungalows (with an incredibly high value for money) to fund their elderly home and the projects to restore it and create a better life for the village's old people. You can also have the chance of discovering Moldovan rural life while staying in comfortable accommodation. The centre can offer food as well, and it is very tasty and healthy. In my case, it was a perfect spot to stop on my way to Romania. Although rural, the town has several shops, businesses and restaurants. I truly recommend it!

A unique experience

I have had the opportunity to stay at the cabins in Straseni a couple times and have no complaints. The place is adorable and the people are very welcoming. It is located a little off the main road so you feel like you are deep within a safe community. It also a short, easy distance to the capital city. I would readily call them the next time I am in Moldova for a stay and a visit in their community with their adorable dogs, Naida and Chestnut :)

A place for rest and community

The cabins are charmingly decorated, very comfortable, well-equipped and warm even at cold times of year. The food is excellent but the bext part of the whole experience are the hosts - I have yet to meet a warmer, more welcoming or friendlier group of people!

I have been lucky enough to visit twice to date - I look forward to more visits in the future.
