Stayed there during a Motorcycle trip. The owner, Guillermo, was a a spectacular host even driving my friend to the bus station when his motorcycle broke down. His kindness and the attention to detail in the home were much appreciated. Darren

We spent a week at the Casa Frida for día de los muertos. I know it sounds crazy, but I was nervous because this place was so affordable. I trusted the Trip Advisor reviews and I was not disappointed! We stayed in the Matisse room which is off the street and was very quiet. It has a king sized bed that was slightly firm but quite comfortable. It was clean and has a lovely view of the courtyard below. Every morning Guillermo and Erika made delicious breakfasts. There were Mexican sweet breads, fruit and a different main dish each day. My favorite was the enchiladas with green and red salsa. 
SMA is a really cool city we walked everywhere. However,  BRING COMFORTABLE SHOES!  The roads are cobblestone in most areas and there are huge hills. (Not to worry, cabs are everywhere if you prefer) 
One word of warning: Casa Frida is high above the centro and it is a very very large hill to climb to get there.  I had read this and thought, how hard could it be? I was impressed with the hill! The rooftop has a nice sitting area with an incredible view of the city.  
We had a rental car and had no trouble parking on the street right outside the hotel. 
Tip: don’t walk down the main road from the hotel. On your way down the hill turn right and follow the road to the left (down). You will come to stairs which are much easier to take than the road with the cars. 
I 100% recommend Casa Frida! It was amazing, affordable, clean and comfortable!

After a mind-numbing two years of Covid, I decided it was time to go for a much needed mental health break.  I couldn't have  stayed at a better place!  Casa Frieda was comfortable, inviting peaceful and exactly what I needed. The staff was incredible and accommodating.  While I was there, I got great recommendations for dining, a barber and other things I needed.

I was a woman traveling alone and felt perfectly safe.  I walked up the street at around 8:00 p.m. (after waiting too late to figure out what I wanted to eat)  and came across a family with a taco "shop" between two buildings.  They were the greatest people and food was wonderful.  

The breakfast was great.  It wasn't a continental breakfast, but a full -blown breakfast with yogurt, breads, coffee and a delicious entre.  My room was cozy (not small, cozy!), well-appointed and comfortable (there's that word again!)  The atmosphere was visually pleasing as well.  I enjoyed sitting in the living room and outside on the patio.  

Yes, it is situated on a very steep hill and the altitude kicked my butt the first day. There are plenty of cabs that are easy to flag, or Uber.  If you don't like cats, you will after you meet Diego.  My experience at Casa Frida was exactly what I was looking for, more than I expected and a great example of what hospitality should be.

We stayed here for 3 nights while on a long road trip from Yucatan back to the US. Our room was comfortable, the property was beautiful, great views from the rooftop patio, private and secure parking lot around the corner. One of my favorite parts of our stay were the excellent breakfasts of fruit, yogurt, sweet breads, and a different main dish - chilaquiles, sopas,  enchiladas, etc served every morning. 

Only downsides to staying here is the long and very steep hill - we walked up and down a few times but in Centro there are plenty of taxis and Uber for about $60 pesos 

Guillermo is an excellent host and I would definitely stay here again

I stayed at Casa Frida for a month while working as a digital nomad, and had a fantastic experience.  Guillermo and Erica took great care of me, and introduced me to a range of delicious Mexican breakfasts that I never knew about before.  Working there was great, and I had clients comment that my Internet connection was better than it was back home.  I loved the location, close to both the historic district and also close to modern amenities such as a supermarket and laundromat -- in both cases it was a 10 minute walk.  I didn't need a car the entire time I was there.  SMA is a pretty special place -- I'll be back!

The perfect place to enjoy the sights, sounds, and flavor of San Miguel Allende. The casa is clean, comfortable and cozy. Our hosts were kind and gracious always going the extra step assist. Breakfasts were an absolute delight to the start of the day. The casa is perched high on the hill offering great views of the city and a vigorous walk to and from town. Taxis are a very inexpensive alternative to the short walk if one prefers.

My mom and I went on vacation and stayed here, at first we had our doubt, but it ended amazing! The people are great, they make you feel at home. Easiest and safest way to make a reservation. It's about a 10 minute walk from the plaza, the walk is wonderful, you get to see all the beautiful streets and the different architecture from each building. Also, it's 5 minutes from the Mirador, a great place to view the whole town at night. I Love this place, and I'm sure I will make my next reservation here! 👌🏼😊

Best Mexican food in broward county. Victor the owner is the best host that I have ever met. Chile rellanos are amazing. Drinks are unforgettable. Feels like your in Mexico. Great lunch.  specials. I will nnot eat any other Mexican restaurant. Ceviche is fresh.the owner Victor will tell exactly about every dis. 

It is located on a very steep hill. Most people would require Uber or a Taxi to get to town, which is inexpensive.
If  steep hills do not bother you ! Fantastic !!! Do your hike !!!
The room was clean, bed is comfortable, and quite !

Amazing Place

Casa Frida was clean and nice.  We arrived in January in low season and believe the house was empty.  

Here are the bad parts:  
Pricing/Paying is unclear - We booked the cheapest room for roughly $65/night through Hotels.com.  The pricing is not really clear as Hotels quoted around $50/night (I assume based on an estimation exchange rate), the casa Frida website quotes $67 USD for the room we had, but when you get there, you have to pay in pesos.  Also, we were told that we HAD to pay cash, which certainly was not conveyed until the day we were to check out.  Ultimately we payed $4,780 MXN for 4 nights.  I'm not sure how that number was arrived at, but it was about $65 USD a night.  

Temperature - The house is cold during this time of year.  We had a heater in our first room before we were moved (see below), but it was very weak and very loud.  There are plenty of blankets, but they need better heaters.  

Room Matters - We got the Monet room.  It is upstairs and faces the street.  Any noise (and freezing air) goes through the windows as if they are open.  I don't mind getting woken up by street noise at 730 or 8am every morning, but if you do, avoid this room.  One night we were awoken at 5am by a party or club that sounded like it was literally right outside our window.  The music did not stop until around 730 or 8 when the street noise started. When we woke up after night one, our shower was only lukewarm.  Water temp and noise led me to write an email to management.  They moved us to the Matisse room which was way more comfortable and quiet, free of charge.  Pay the extra money to stay in this room (it's roughly $20 more per night). 

Hiking up the hill to the house - This isn't that big of a deal, it just surprises me that none of the reviews I have read mention it.  The house is on top of an incredibly steep hill.  My fiance and I love to hike and are not adverse to walking up and down hills to get to where we want to go.  This hill is crazy steep.  Walking back from the Jardin will leave you sweating and gasping unless you are an ironman.  You can take a cab for 40 pesos, but it's not ideal.  

The good parts:
Breakfast was fine - You get fruit, decent coffee, toast with butter and jam, and fresh squeezed OJ.  It is adequate, in my opinion, but you'll be disappointed if you want a full breakfast.  

Service - Once alerted (via email), management promptly moved us to the Matisse room free of charge.  It is a much nicer room and I am grateful that they did.  

The Matisse Room - The back of the house rooms were lovely and quiet.  Stay back there, if you can.

Good value, but room selection matters

We got there without a booking, but had no problem getting a nice room. The location is great; the house is so beautifully decorated; the terrace has great views of the city and sunset. Breakfast time is 0900, but when the owner saw us working early morning in the dining area, she made a big breakfast by herself - and it was the biggest and the best breakfast we had on this trip. Highly recommended.
