Great value in San Juan de Los Lagos, very clean and comfortable with all of the amenities and onsite parking which is limited at other hotels or b&b's.  This is a more modern hotel with 8 floors.  Walking distance to the historic cathedral and market. It has a nice buffet breakfast for $89 pesos per adult or head to the main plaza at the cathedral and enjoy a more typical breakfast at the Columbos restaurant for $63 pesos including fresh juice.

Hotel in San Juan De Los Lagos

We stayed there for 2 nights.  Other family members stayed for 4 days.  Our room which was a suite Room #501.  A large corner room with a balcony.  The room even with the lights on is kind of dark and ominous looking.  Cleanliness was ok, our a/c was working.  There door has some issues, we felt that it did not lock properly.  There is no safe for valuables, passport, etc.  Other members of the family stayed in room #508, the a/c was not working it is an inside room.  Claustrophobic though it does have a window facing the inside.  Their shower head was spraying one side of the wall the rest of the water was coming out of the wall.  Major plumbing issues, the toilet not flushing properly.  The maintenance man was also the valet and doorman.  So nothing got repaired in their room.  Now room #401 I believe, corner room with a balcony.  Same no a/c, toilet and shower issues nothing repaired there either.  Also different reception people,  they could not find our reservations for 2 rooms. Finally they did since I I had the reservation numbers.  We reserved with ZONA TURISTICA.  They are kinda shady since the price for the reservation was increased.   So how do you argue when you've had a long flight then drive to San Juan de los Lagos.  I had  read that rooms in town are scarce with the types of accommodations they advertised.   Yes I have read that since this is a pilgrims town, people tend to be for lack of a better word ok with it.  As for the restaurant there was a young lady who seemed bored and bothered when we asked for some coffee.  When we arrived.  So we knew it was a no deal to ask for a menu.  So we stepped outside and ate elsewhere.  The following morning we tried the buffet which was scarce but ok since we had a wedding to get ready for.  I could go on and on.  We would probably not stay there again.  I would definitely do better research and hopefully have better luck.  Luckily we left to Guadalajara and stayed at our favorite hotel, Hotel Morales.  Our number one choice when in town.

Wedding in San Juan de los Lagos...Church La Tercera Orden

First of all you must realize that SanJuan de los Lagos is a Pilgrim Site, it is not a tourist attraction, per se. We stayed here because we got lost here on our way back to the UPS border one year, from Nayarit. We were treated so well by the people who helped us that I read about SJdL and always wanted to return. Read about the City and the Shrine on Internet and then come and be immersed in a very different cultural experience.
Now, the hotel. It must have been "grand" at one time but is now quite tired. However! the location is perfect and they have private parking ... a huge thing in this town. We travel with pets and that might be why we were put into a very marginal (1 star?) room the first night. Window opened to the inside, very stuffy, clean but dumpy.
 We were moved upon request to a CORNER OUTSIDE ROOM - very important! Sliding screen, balcony and plenty of fresh mountain air. Hear the church bells nearby. Very pleasant. The town does not cater to tourists, it is used to pilgrims so keep this in mind. You will not get very good directions for food. Most excellent local food can be found in the Plaza by the cathedral. We also came upon a restaurant on Calle Independencia..about 4 short blocks that had wine/beer and a good Mexican menu. If you plan to go to Mass at the Basilica, be prepared that literally THOUSANDS of people cram the place. It is gorgeous but you might want to just visit and go to Mass at one of the many other churches very close to this hotel. SHOPPING is literally everywhere - crazy markets selling lots of religious stuff, the candy that this area is so famous for and lots of embroidered linens. There a a few place to get quality shoes/leather. Mostly pretty basic stuff that is geared toward the visitor population so if you are hoping to see Tonala/Tlaquapaque, this is not it. Overall, a humbling, beautiful experience. We would stay here again if we come through SLdL, but be sure to insist on the corner/outside room!

Think why you are going to San Juan de los Lagos

I stayed there for a week. The hotel was unhygienic. The floors of the room I stayed in weren't cleaned the whole stay, tablecloths in the restaurant were often dirty and still in use from the previous night. Also the wifi was really poor often not working at all. The view was however nice and I enjoyed hearing the bells from the Catedral Basílica church. We ended up leaving the hotel a week early and checking into another hotel, overall a poor hotel.

Did not live up to my expectations

We stayed here while doing VBS in the mornings and afternoons, so only used it as a place to sleep and eat. Clean enough. Nothing fancy. Good location and pretty decent breakfast with amicable staff. The rooms were cleaned daily with fresh towels - a little plus.
