Hostal Casa Caracol

My boyfriend and I stayed about 3 weeks at Casa Caracol with the new owners Carlos, Kerstin, and their young son. They are a very warm and accommodating family that live in the main house (also featuring a small dorm and private rooms) of the property. A spacious garden and green space stretches behind the main house towards a group of earth-construction (cob/adobe/recycled materials) buildings, including a small dorm, single and private rooms, and a two-story cottage. They are rustic, but quite comfortable and charming. Plenty of warm bedding is provided for the cool nights. Note, the shared bathroom for these rooms is through the garden at the back of the main house. Another shared bathroom and shower inside the front of the main house. Although basic bathrooms, hot water was always available and the bathrooms cleaned and resupplied regularly with soap, paper, and a fresh towel. The garden area offers tables, chairs, a hammock, fire pit, compost, mats for yoga/meditation, and grassy/level places to camp. Communal kitchen is equipped well enough (with purified water too), and although well used, not abused. It was regularly organized and tidied, with plenty of space for personal storage. Wifi throughout the property, even all the way in the back of the property. They allowed us to store our bicycles and gear several times while we took trips out of town. Discounts for extended stays. Location is outside of the main tourist district on a residental block. 5 mins walking to the art market, 15 to guadalupe walking street. The vibe at the hostel is very chill and tranquilo. Not a party hostel. It tends to attract budget travelers (we paid 200 pesos a night for the cottage) looking for something a little closer to nature in the city. Overall, we had a great stay and enjoyed immensely the company of the family and the other travelers.
