Eco Hotel Las Mariposas

Beautiful hotel with lovely decor. It had a very peaceful vibe throughout, with hammocks and outdoor seating you can chill at if you wanted to relax outside. Everyone is really kind and helpful. We arranged a taxi pickup with them at 5AM to catch out flight, and the cab was there waiting for us before 5AM. It's also in a quiet location that's walking distance from the center. We had a great stay here, highly recommended!

Oh my gosh I just loved it and was sad to leave. I was in Room D, at the back of the garden. Just the right size for me with loads of storage space. Liked the eco touches, like the bucket in the shower to save water as it warms up. Breakfast was cute and different every day. Felt very secure here. Staff were super friendly and helpful. Also. Lea the dog. Love her. Oh yeah and you can borrow a hat or an umbrella and store your luggage if you need to.

The perfect central location for our Dia de los Muertos visit to Oaxaca with our tour group.  Las Mariposas is family owned, provides sparkling clean rooms and breakfast.  We had great service to include helping with airport transportation .

Beautiful in every way ... Host , management , staff , property and location . A proper home away from home . I wouldn't stay anywhere else if I came to Oaxaca. Thank you

 The staff was very friendly and helpful . A continental breakfast was served  to start the day. I enjoyed the beautiful gardens and two friendly old dogs around the entrance/courtyard. We would definitely stay here again.

Gorgeous hotel with ample natural light, comfortable beds, hot showers, and air-condition. Staff are super super nice and helpful. Hotel serves coffee and bread in the morning which is a really pleasant way to start the day. The hotel also takes precautions to keep guests safe at night by locking up and having a 24/7 staff on duty. I was beyond happy with my stay here.

Had a wonderful experience here. The staff were very friendly and helpful.  The rooms were clean and comfortable.  Very central location and within walking distance to many attractions and restaurants.

Lovely, peaceful, and convenient

Las Mariposas is a great little hotel near the historic center of Oaxaca, walking distance to bars, restaurants, shops and attractions. Hotel is also located very close to colorful neighborhood of Jalatlaco. The hotel is located in cute little garden, rooms are nice and spacious and fast Wi-Fi. The hotel is gated which adds to security and you need to be buzzed in and out every time. Breakfast is very basic and there are several cute breakfast places nearby.

Clean and Cute Hotel with Awesome Staff

Stayed 5 nights at the Hotel Las Mariposas. Here are a few of my thoughts.

* Location - Superb. You’re located in the heart of everything with all the big ticket items such as Templo De Santo Domingo, Museo de las Culturas de Oaxaca and the Zocalo all within walking distance. The central area of Oaxaca in general we found very gentrified with numerous bars and restaurants and we felt safe being in this area, even when walking at night. Apart from Monte alban we were able to do everything on foot with this as a our base.

* Security - Good. They had iron gates which were locked 24/7 and you needed to be buzzed in by a attendant who was around near the reception area.

* Room - Basic and clean. Only fans but because of the altitude of Oaxaca it was cool enough at night even when we visited in July. Showers had hot water which worked but did often take a bit of time to heat up.

* Wifi - Good connectivity throughout the complex and decent speeds. Didn’t seem to drop out too much.

* Staff - One of the real highlights of staying in this place. Friendly and helpful at every opportunity. 

* Breakfast - Fairly minimal but totally adequate. Fresh coffee, breads and cereal served in the communal courtyard. 

Overall for the price point I felt like this was a great option for a mid-range traveller.

Additional tips
 - GYM - There is a large gym known as ‘black gimnasio’ located on Cosijoeza street which is the first street to the right that you see when exiting the hotel. It costs 70 mexican peso (weekdays) or 50 mexican pesos (weekend) for a casual workout. Probably a 200m walk.
- Laundry - Closest one we found was just next to the above gym on Cosijoeza 208 and was called Lavanderia Silav. It cost 20 mexican peso a kilogram and did a 24 hour turn around service.
- ATM - Closest is the HSBC which is located opposite the park, on the same street the hotel is on.

Excellent Mid Range Option

We loved our 1 week stay at Hotel Las Mariposas. They are a small family owned hotel located just a 10 minute walk from the Zócalo, close to Santo Domingo, and a half a block from the popular Parque El Llano. It’s also close to a variety of great coffee shops and restaurants. 

They have a variety of room options from small double rooms to large studios with kitchenettes. We stayed in one of each and despite the double being smaller, it was well thought out and nicely appointed to make our stay comfortable. There’s a variety of outdoor seating areas in garden settings, a larger patio area where people can gather for their daily coffee and continental breakfast that’s provided each morning, and a small sitting area with a TV. A shared kitchen is also provided for guest’s use. The rooms and grounds were spotless with special attention paid to being an eco-friendly hotel which we loved. The hotel has excellent Wifi and small safes are installed in the rooms. There is someone on duty 7x24 who was also responsible for front gate access. 

Lastly, but most importantly, the people working at Las Mariposas were amazing. Always friendly and helpful, they went out of their way to make you feel at home. A special shout-out to Cristel who provided us with outstanding customer service.

A Home Away From Home

The location is unbeatable. The room was comfortable and very clean. The staff could not be nicer; we had to leave very early in the morning and come back very late at night during my stay, and they received our dry cleaners and called taxis for us. They also recommended us places to visit. All with a genuine smile and wanting to help. We will definitely stay at Las Mariposas next time.

We enjoyed our stay in Las Mariposas during our recent visit to Oaxaca.  This is a great economy hotel and very clean.  The staff was friendly and we felt safe at all times.  The location is within walking distance to most attractions in the city. They served breakfast in the courtyard which consisted of mainly bread/sweet bread, cereal, coffee and tea.

Quality care in this small hotel located in central Oaxaca, near Plaza de Los Leones. The reservationist is friendly as well as the entire staff.The rooms are kept clean and if you want privacy, you need only ask-If you want your room left alone, or cleaned less frequently, simply let them know.Lovely courtyard in the central area. The only drawback; you must put up with some of the lonelier ex-pats, especially if you are a couple traveling as friends.I traveled with a great friend and if we ate at the communal breakfast table, I could not help but notice the regular Gidget; trying to win my friend's affections.Aside from the fractured world we live in, and the overwhelming loneliness during these times of virus and crisis, Las Mariposas is a haven from the noise of the city. It offers a great price and a cultural experience.

Loved this place.  Staff & management are just great.  Location is perfect -- near a great park but still close to the central tourist district.  Hotel has a really funky, cool feel that is a welcomed relief from the usual boxy budget hotels.  It's a beautiful, traditional building with a great communal courtyard.
