Pepes Hideaway

Location, location, location.  This has it.  If you seek relaxation, breathtaking views and being pampered, this is your spot.  Speedy and staff make you part of their family while there to the point that we wanted to return the favor and cooked dinner for 14 of their family one night.  Papayas are the real deal.  Well stocked. Coffee delivered silently to your deck at sunlight a very nice touch.  Homemade soups, salsas, very fresh fruit, vegetables, meat and fish and being able to order anything you wish for dinner make this special.  Not much in the way of attractions in Manzanillo, but if looking to decompress, this is your spot.  Staff simply can't do enough for you but are not imposing in any way.

Despite a brief setback with the reservation arrangements...we settled into Pepe"s with ease and then proceeded to sit back and enjoy...the location, the ocean front sights and sounds, the rooms, the cool ocean sounds and breezes, the amazing food...and the service did not disappoint. If you wanted or needed something you just had to ask and the staff would provide. Betty , Laura,and her son Gustaf and Speedy(mgr) were all wonderful. I went to the local market to shop with Speedy and enjoyed the sights. in and around the property altho some repairs to the stairways down to the beach could be a needed addition for safety. On site Massage Therapy is available and a nearby beach and tennis courts are within short walk...staff are glad to bring you cold beverages and food upon request and will gladly provide you with return transportation if needed.Birdwatchers will love this location...the pool on site is just big enough to cool off in and the hot tub offers an amazing view of the ocean and the stars at nite. Sunsets are to die for ...truly a magical experience! would love to go again!  

Wow, the view, the food, the service, the massages, the location, the weather, the staff, the grounds...just INCREDIBLE. I will go back again and again and again. We felt safe, taken care of and so relaxed! Our rooms were stocked with water, sodas, beer, soaps, lotion, shampoo & conditioner, robes, slippers... The homemade margaritas, Pina coladas, micheladas, were delightful.

Speedy and his family: Laura, Juan and Patrice took excellent care of me for a 5 day winter getaway. I stayed in cabin 2 as the only guest in the resort. Everything from the waterfront cabin to the pool/hot tub and the superb meals made my time at Pepe's, the perfect retreat. The meals were wonderful.  Breakfast cooked to order is served as late as 12 noon. Lunch was offered, as light or heavy, as I wished.  Dinner was served with wine and prearranged with Speedy at breakfast each morning.  Endless frozen margaritas, bottled cerveza, bottled water and soft drinks were available at refrigerators throughout the resort and in my cabin as well. The fresh ingredients for meals were obtained daily on Speedy's late morning trips to town. The property faces West over the ocean, so the sun doesn't shine into the cabins until 10AM or later. I'm a late sleeper so this was great. Fresh Coffee on my balcony every morning was nice. Pepe's is located in an exclusive gated community.  Entry involved copying my passport and comparing my information to a guest list.  I felt very safe.  Once into Pepe's Hideaway, the secured vibe relaxed and I settled into the laid back atmosphere of open doors, bare feet, coconut trees, sun soaking and the sound of waves crashing under my patio. The wifi works great.  I had enough bandwidth to stream netflix, and tuned-in a few times.  Additionally my Sprint cell reception was great after I reset the mobile profile. 
Ask Speedy about shopping in Santiago and market days in the neighboring villages.  I went into two of the local villages on two separate short trips to acquire souvenirs. Despite not speaking spanish, I found the locals friendly. I quickly realized that I was not among fellow Norte Americano tourists, like Cancun.  At no time did I feel unsafe wandering around shops or markets in the area.   Pepe's two resident pooches were friendly yet unobtrusive.  My favorite companion was Pepito, the resort kitty. There is a 10% service charge included with the all inclusive accommodation fees.  I was inclined to leave an additional gratuity to show my appreciation for the warm reception and great service received.  I will be back in December!  

Pepe’s Hideaway is simply amazing. It is gorgeous. We can hardly believe it’s real and feel fortunate every visit. We discovered Pepe’s Hideaway 10 years ago and have gone back every year since. It is the perfect place to relax, unwind, and soak up Mexican hospitality with no hassles. Pepe’s is a drama free zone. 

The accommodations are lovely. The bungalows have everything you need and nothing you don’t. Comfortable bed, shower, toiletries, ceiling fan, mini-fridge, electricity, they’re all there. You also have an awesome balcony with a hammock. Our hammock chilling skills are approaching wizard level thanks to our regular visits. What isn’t there is a TV and phone. Tranquilo. Pepe’s also isn’t crowded. We’ve been guests when all five bungalows are booked. You never feel cramped or as if you need to jockey for a good spot or good service.

The service. The service is understated and subtle. Your days in this not-of-this-world place start with coffee on the balcony of your bungalow. No big fuss or display, it’s as if it just appears. One of the many highlights of our trips is the time we spend on our balcony watching the waves, drinking our coffee. It is magical. Often our chats turn to whether or not we are going to have “tocino” bacon with breakfast. Decisions, decisions! 

The Food. The food is excellent. Like everything else at Pepe’s, eating your meals is an easygoing affair. Breakfast and dinner are eaten in the thatched roof covered main dining area. For breakfast there is always an assortment of local fresh fruit, bread, freshly squeezed orange juice, and coffee. That is followed by your choice of fresh eggs made to order, with or without a Mexican kick, huevos rancheros, frijoles, and the previously contemplated tocino. Every year I tell myself I am going to pass on the bacon, but I always have some. It’s just too darned good to miss. Everything is made fresh while you enjoy the fruit, nothing warming under heat lamps at Pepe’s. While you are at breakfast, Speedy, more about this fine fellow later, asks, for example if fish is okay for dinner. If the response is yes, there really isn’t need for more discussion. Fish will be the main course and the accompanying dishes will be fresh and delicious. Some of our fellow guests have been vegetarian, or don’t eat certain items, and, like everything at Pepe’s, it is taken care of with attention to detail, without a lot of ado. They have been very happy with the alternative they are offered and served. Simple. Between breakfast and dinner is the botana, or snack. It is usually served poolside and is just what you need to tide you over until dinner. We’ve had great food from ceviche, to taquitos, guacamole, and our personal favorite, the warm quesadillas. The food with a cold cerveza and the beautiful view are hard to beat. 

In addition to deciding whether or not you have bacon with breakfast, the other big choice we often face is if we should spend our days in paradise at the pool or the beach. The struggle is real. Of course you can do both. The beach club on La Punta is a great. The small private beach has chairs and palapas. Just find one you like and relax. The pool there is great too. There are bathroom and shower facilities there as well. If the beach is your choice, just tell Speedy. He’ll offer you a lift down and pack you a cooler with beer, water, and soda. You don’t miss out on the botana either, one of the staff will bring it down to you and ask when/if you’d like a lift back. It’s all that easy. Relaxed efficiency. 

The best for last. The people. When we first stumbled across Pepe’s Hideaway, one of the phrases used on the webpage was “Let us spoil you”.  Our curiosity was piqued. What would this spoiling entail? It all comes down to the people and The Main Man, El Jefe, is Speedy.  He greets you when you arrive and for the rest of your stay, you are in his capable hands. If you need or want anything all you need to do ask. He is the genuine article. Speedy coordinates the day-to-day operations. If a need arises, Speedy takes care it. There isn’t a big production or discussion, but rest assured you’ll be taken care of by Speedy.  He is the best.  Everyone else working there reflects his approach. They are always kind and helpful. Lastly, there is the namesake himself, the owner Pepe. Pepe had the vision for his Hideaway years back and his guests are the beneficiaries. On most nights he joins his guests around the dinner table and it is a blast. He has led an amazing life and the conversation is always a lot of fun.

On our most recent visit we celebrated our wedding anniversary. We kicked around a few ideas about where we might go. The answer was easy; we need to go to Pepe’s. Everyone rolled out the red carpet for us, and they made our celebration very special. 

Whether it’s your first visit or you’re old friends, the experience is the same; everyone at Pepe’s spoils you at this inspiring one of kind Hideaway.

I am from California and my first trip to Mexico was to Manzanillo Mexico.  I chose Manzanillo because my friends in OC all told me it was a wonderful and safe place to visit.  I found Pepes Hideaway on trip advisor and found it to be the most appealing place to stay as I only stay in first class hotels that are safe and very beautiful.  Wow was I impressed)))  I rate this resort better than my trip to Kurumba in the Maldive Islands where is paid $1000 a night.  Pepes was much less in price but a lot more in value and service.  It is an all inclusive resort and received so much service I felt guilty and gave everyone large tips.    The food was superb. The views were to die for.  I felt like I was in the Amazon but slept well knowing I was in the most wealthy gated neighbor hood of all of Manzanillo.  I met such nice people at the resort from Canada and around the US.  New friends and a great vacation.  The host Joe was amazing!  Best Thanksgiving Dinner I have ever had.   Felt like one big family.   Went in to town and all the local people were very nice to me.  Manzanillo is a very safe place for Americans and Canadians.  They even have Starbucks!  And Pepes is close to everything.   Best Vacation I have ever had.  Will go again next year!!!  5 stars!!!
