Hotel Monterrey Melaque

Perfect location, great hotel, wonderful staff. Could always use a few more umbrellas with tables and chairs on the beach. Would help if the hotel owner would trim the trees in front of the second floor. Prices always seem to be going up. Good times all the same!

This is a reasonably priced hotel right on the beach in Melaque.  We paid about 60.00 a night.  It is set up for long stays.  We were on the top floor and had a room with two double beds, bathroom and kitchen area.  Rooms on the lower floors had a table and chairs on a large shared deck overlooking the ocean.  The rooms were well cleaned daily and the front desk staff were friendly and helpful.  We had a leak in the bathroom sink when we checked in and it was fixed right away.  There is no air conditioning but the ceiling fan and keeping the drapes closed during the day kept the room cool enough.  There are no screens on the windows and we had a pigeon fly in the room our first morning.  I flew right out again, but we were more careful afterwards about leaving the windows open.  The Monterrey is located in the downtown area of Melaque, so it is easy to find places to eat.  The bus stations is located across the street.  We enjoyed our stay here.  It helps if you can speak a little Spanish.

On the Beach

Love this place!

The 3 stars are for the location to town and the beach and the great deck right outside the rooms.
 Here is the issue: We were travelling with friends and had rooms booked months in advance. We had friends, already in Melaque , check a number of times that are names were still in the book and offered to pay a deposit. The person at the desk said they didn't need a deposit and all would be okay with the rooms. When we arrived we were informed that the rooms on the second deck that we reserved we given to someone else and they had one room on the bottom that 4 of us had to share for one night and then we could have the rooms we booked the next day. After expressing our displeasure we said it would be okay for one night. The room was definitely the one they rent last as the shower drained so slow that the bathroom flooded into the main room and the toilet didn't flush well. The next day we were able to move to the rooms we had booked and they were much better and the maids did a good job. We stayed for 4 nights and then took a bus trip to Guadalajara for a few days and then returned for another week. When we left I offered to leave a deposit for our rooms and was told we didn't need to as our rooms would not be moved, the girl at the front desk said ``no move, no move `` several times. When we returned we had another couple meeting us there to stay for the next week, so we now had 3 rooms reserved. We went to the front desk and was told they had a water leak in one of the other rooms and instead of moving those patrons to a vacant room on the first floor they put them in our room as well as put someone else in one of our other rooms. So we now had our names on 1 room on the second floor and 2 on the first floor including the bad room we had before.
 We argued for quite awhile and they said if they get the leak fixed we would move back upstairs and have rooms together. We did manage to get a different room than the flooding room. The manager came to us that evening and showed us the pipe that had a hole in it and said it was fixed. I said `` we can move upstairs tomorrow then`` and he said `` maybe, let me see`` I said that you told me we could move to our rooms if the pipe was fixed`` He said`` I will check and let you know``. He never came back to us that night or the next morning, so we found another place to stay that was much better and dropped our keys on the desk and left without saying another word. 
 We did go in the pool and it was very dirty and lots of the lounge chairs were broken as well. The Monterrey has a great location, but it just need a bit of upkeep done and a better reservation policy.

I stayed at this hotel in Jan. and Feb. 2013 for 4 weeks. It is on the beach at Bahia De Navidad. It is very central on the beach avenue with Barra De navidad visible in the distance. The rooms are quite large. Mine had 2 double beds and one single. There was a noisy ceiling fan but large windows for ventilation.The beds were fine- not too hard and pillows , bedding etc. was good too. The upper rooms facing the west can get quite hot so be advised to take a ground floor room. I paid 440 pesos per night which I thought was pretty cheap for beachfront. Overall I would recommend this hotel for budget minded travellers. Remember that on the weekends or holidays these hotels see an influx of Mexicans who are seeking the beach too. I enjoyed my stay there.

I make a reservation a month ago and when I check in they tried to change the price on me from 595 to 945 just because the high season starts, I request a room on second floor and they gime me the room 6 on the corner really bad after argument for the price with two people on reception they respect the price and give me a better room. the TV is so little that my tablet is the same size. Is the first and last time that I came to Monterey hotel.

Cash only. Old and Dumpy rooms. Hard beds. Bar OpenOff and on. Restaurant had five items available. Pool needs upgrading. Place needs painting. 
Right on beach. Easy waves, no undertowOn Main Street so could eat at other places. A few beach vendors.
