Mawimbi Boutique Hotel

Most amazing vacation ever. Room was lovely new and clean with wonderful view of the ocean. Restaurant delicious and staff friendly and helpful. Zero complaints and will definitely be back!! We love it and highly recommend it.

This was my 2nd visit to Hotel Mawimbi, and it's the only place in over a decade of travelling multiple times per year that I've ever returned to! 
The rooms are comfortable and peaceful, very beautiful, pictures don't do them justice. And the service from the staff is unmatched. Marcia and her team, including restaurant staff, are incredibly kind & considerate. And the food is amazing!
Lastly, Mawimbi has the BEST stretch of beachfront of any hotel that I've seen - & I've walked the entire stretch of the beach multiple times! 


Hotel Mawimbi is fantastic. Rooms are spotless. AC is cold. Location is perfect. Ambiance is relaxing and amazingly designed. Very comfortable stay. 3 minute walk down beach or through town to main square and restaurants. We had a wonderful stay. And Marcia was so kind and helpful to set up our other adventures and travel perfectly. Marcia, thank you thank you!!! 

My boyfriend and I stayed at Mawimbi in a beachfront room for 4 nights and it was an absolute dream. Each staff member greeted us by name throughout our stay and made us feel like family- Christian, Gabriel, and Marcia especially went above and beyond. The grounds are unmatched in Holbox and the food is incredible. We cannot wait to come back!

The stay was last year. The hotel is being rebuilt to its former, yet better status. We have enjoyed staying there for 16 years and have reserved into the future for more. The owners touring the Yucatan in their youth saw their dream future together and built this wonderful hotel. Come and join their wonderful journey.

This is the best hotel on Holbox! Wonderful staff, beautiful rooms and steps from the ocean. Rooms are not currently available due to renovations from a fire but the beach and restaurant are open for day pass and meals. It is perfection- quiet, serene, large comfy padded lounge chairs and plenary of space- not lined up like sardines! The food, cocktails and service is fantastic. Highly recommend!

We stayed further down the island but came here multiple times for breakfast. The service was really good, staff very attentive and helped translate things for us. You literally couldn’t imagine a more beautiful spot. 


many years ago I saw hotel mawimbi in a magazine and dreamed of going.  It finally happened in early November.  We arrived late in the day and were quickly swept to our beachfront room, Palma.  I felt I had arrived in paradise, especially after I was handed one of the delicious house cocktails as a welcome drink.  Mawimbi is on a prime piece of beach, near the town which was convenient.  I did Zumba in the town square.  Our room was lovely, the service was great and the food was good.  The prices for everything were reasonable. One disadvantage was the dogs, who run free and do what dogs do.  They are visited by their friends, who are other dogs from other places. I am writing this in the interest of full disclosure.  Overall we had a wonderful week, enjoyable and relaxing, exactly what we wanted.  Perfect if you are not the Cancun type, and you want something authentic.  Note:  many of the hotels are across the road from the beach.  not Mawimbi.  Photos of the hotel cleverly hide this detail.  Other hotels have palapas that hide the view of the beach, not Mawimbi which has a beautiful view.  Don't miss the sunset. November was a perfect month to go.  Winter can be cool.

This hotel is amazing!! ♥️♥️♥️

From the moment we booked until we checked out, it was absolutely delightful. The communication when booking was very personable (whats app) and they even reached out prior to our trip to make sure we had everything we needed which was a very nice unexpected touch. 

We arrived early, checked in, were introduced to all the friendly staff members and had the BEST hand crafted complimentary cocktails at their darling beach restaurant. while we waited for our room to be ready.  

After a couple drinks, we were escorted to our cozy room.  The room was everything I expected and more. Every detail was well  thought out. The bedding was lovely, and the decorative handmade pillows tied everything together. The bed and pillows were super comfortable, not too hard or soft, and there was absolutely no noise at night.  

We enjoyed the complimentary breakfast, which was different each morning.  Keep an eye on the hummingbird feeders - you will see some visitors. 🐦 

If you love dogs, you will be happy to know they have at least 5 dogs that call Mawimbi home.  They are friendly and spoiled and I found myself seeking them out at every chance. 🐶 

🏝 Their is no shortage of beach or comfortable chaise lounge chairs.  And the food and drink service on the beach was excellent!  There was always someone keeping an eye on us to make sure we had everything we needed. 

If you have your eye on this gem, you will not be disappointed.   💙

What a hidden gem. It’s the prettiest strip of beach, a small and perfectly presented hotel of 11 rooms. Authentic and understated the layout is perfect. It is also walking distance to the town but just far enough away you enjoy the quiet when you don’t want a lively evening.

Other hotels on this strip seem to attract the “Insta” crowd but Mawimbi is very welcoming and doesn’t have to try that hard.

The breakfasts are included and vary every day. The lunch and dinner menu is the same and - Mexican and Italian - all delicious. Cocktails all great too and happy hour - is actually 4 hours! 

But what really makes it is the staff. Won’t single anyone out, but you know who you are and you made it very special. 

Best room is the Seashell room, the dual aspect beach room. Incredibly quiet even though near the bar - everything goes quiet by 10.

Mawimbi you have been fabulous and we will be back!

Hidden Gem in Holbox , the perfect base for a chilled beach holiday.

This beautiful hotel and its warm and wonderful staff provided us with the most peaceful and relaxing vacation I have ever had. Delicious breakfast, delicious drinks, and just steps from the best beach I have ever been on. The staff learned our names and greeted us warmly whenever they saw us, and we were even treated to a tour by the owner of the many interesting plants on the property. We enjoyed every minute, we talk about it all the time, and we can't wait to go back!

I booked Hotel Mawimbi after a concierge at my go-to Cancun resort recommended Isla Holbox to me about 6 months earlier.  The price is really the only thing that I could find as a downfall as it's more in line with Cancun pricing vs. small, remote island pricing.  But, Isla Holbox is becoming more and more well known, with more and more lodging options so if you want to be certain you have a clean, attractive place to stay that is directly on the beach and with great service the price may not be an issue for you.  The lodging is not really a "hotel", but is a group of buildings that feel more like a treehouse with some rooms on the ground level facing the beach, some on ground level near the rear of the property near the entrance road, and other rooms on a second level above the lower level rooms.    My room was on the ground level directly facing the beach with another room right next to mine and one or two above on the second level.  I never heard any noise from any of the other rooms although I know they were occupied.  The room was very comfortable with a nice bathroom & shower, very comfortable bed as well as a daybed/couch, two chairs.  All of the linens, towels, etc. were high quality and felt very nice.  The air-conditioning worked well (and was needed.)  The room also had a nice front patio with two additional chairs and side table where you could read, chat or just gaze out at the water.  Mawimbi has an on-site bar/restaurant where I have several meals.  The food was always very good, and the special drinks made expertly by Jesus the bartender.  Alan was my server most of the time and he did a very good job of explaining the menu, answering questions about the property and the area, and just generally making me feel welcome and at home.  ALL of the staff I encountered somehow magically new my name - even those that I had not previously met during my stay.  Irving & Marcia at the front desk were very helpful and welcoming as well.  Mawimbi allows pets which I have no problem with, but if you do have any allergies or issues with pets you may want to ask some questions first.  While I was there I would guess that more than 50% of the other guests had a dog with them, but all of the owners cleaned up after the dogs quickly which was very nice to see and made having the pets there more enjoyable for all of the guests.  The place is located directly on the beach with great beach chairs and lounging areas that can be covered from the sun if you wish.  Although Mawimbi had very good food and great drinks, there are other options for different restaurants and bars all over the beach area in either direction you walk.  Because the entire town is quite small you can easily walk just a block from the main entrance on the road behind the hotel and be at other non-beach restaurants, bars, shopping, pharmacy, etc.  You can get a $5US ATV Taxi to take you just about anywhere if you have difficulty walking, but even without that you can walk just about anywhere you may want or need to go in 1-15 minutes.  I loved Isla Holbox, and I enjoyed staying at Hotel Mawimbi with it's comfortable and well-appointed room, good food and friendly & welcoming staff.  Even with the relatively high price I would stay again at this place because of the good experience had on this initial trip.
