Antigua Casa de Musica

Located between Cafe Santo and Jardin de Embajadoras, this property is super convenient.  It was surprisingly NOT noisy. Hosts are excellent.  Lovely renovation with super high ceilings.

This beautiful, authentic property literally oozes charm. Gracious bilingual host (Duncan) was extremely attentive and pleasant to deal with. We had a smaller room which was still large with high ceilings and a gorgeous "patina" to the old walls, beams and windows...making for a very pleasant environment. Shower water pressure was not so great, but that's typical of these type of properties and of Mexico in general. The location couldn't be better...just outside of the heart of the historic district (3 min walk). Perfect basecamp for exploring the lovely city of Guanajuato.

I would highly recommend the Antigua Casa de Musica, built in a historic building that previously housed the music school of the University of Guanajuato. English is spoken -- if that is an issue for you. The location is ideal -- with hardly any uphill walking. The restaurant is delish. The decor is gorgeous! The rooms are traditional colonial style, built around a central courtyard. They have been tastefully renovated and are quite charming.

This is a historic and rustic house with 5 varying suites just a couple of blocks from the centre of Guanajuato. It used to be the university music school, hence the name. 

We spent 4 nights in the Coyote suite. It is not luxurious and all the fixtures are old, befitting the type of property, however it is spacious and comfortable and kitted out for basic self catering with an oven, fridge, pans etc. The only negative was that there is no kettle or coffee maker for making hot drinks. However, almost next door there is both a coffee shop and a bakery. We didn't bother with self catering except breakfast as you can eat out so cheaply.

We didn't have any problems with water pressure as has been reported in a previous review. In fact the shower was very good and we were supplied with plenty of big, decent quality towels; the suite was serviced daily. 

There isn't any air con but with the thick walls it isn't really needed, although a fan for the bedroom would be beneficial at night and I've made that suggestion to the owner.

The house also benefits from a couple of outdoor seating areas and a table and chairs on the top floor terrace if you want to get a takeaway pizza and bottle wine to enjoy the balmy evenings in relative peace.

The owner Duncan, who currently lives on site is British so we had no language difficulties. He is very welcoming and helpful. 

We enjoyed our stay here and felt the accommodation provided was excellent value for money.

Rustic but comfortable suites in a historic house providing excellent value for money

This is a stunning property!! Dreaming of our return :-)

Positive: Duncan, the owner/manager,  is really as nice as everybody says. The food at the eatery at the entrance is awsome.

Negative: Our room was not really clean I walked with my socks on.. they were dirty after the first 5 minutes. The place needs maintainance, the room was humid and the white finishing on the Wall colors your clothes White as well!! Do not lean against the wall for any reason or your clothes will be white afterwards. The water of the shower has almost no preassure, a nightmare for somebody with long hair to get the shampoo off. Recommendation:There is a water-pump needed to solve this issue. The bathroom doesn't have a window so the smell and humidity here are worst. Internet didn't work inside the room. We didnt feel quite well during our stay here, we were very surprised about the good reviews here vs. what we got there. Value for money was poor. I would rate Duncan with a 10! but since we are rating the place I need to be fair with the fellow travellers. I cannot recommend this place.
