Ecolodge Kayon - Selva Lacandona

Clean room with AC available, local food, great jungle experience, ruins & swimming in local river. Great experience with knowledgeable & friendly guide "Ko". The river was raging with recent rains coming down gradual cascades. Very wonderful experience.
Back of property has a slow moving river with peaceful bench to sit & enjoy the scenery.

We stayed 2 nights at Gabriel's Ecolodge in this small Lacandon village close to the Bonampak ruins and it was a great experience.
Of course you cant expect the rooms to be as modern as in bigger cities but with hot water, efficient mosquito nets and a clean bathroom it fully lived up to our expectations.

Gabriel was a very kind host and we had some great meals with the other guests of the lodge. From the activities he arranged we loved the rafting in the Rio lacandon.

The lodge also has a private access to a small river.

Overall a very good experience away from the beaten tracks.

Simple but good

We booked this place because we wanted to have adequate time to visit both Bonampak and Yaxchilan without having to drive the 3-plus hours back and forth to and from Palenque.  As a result, we took a chance and booked the place without doing proper research.  The result was an absolutely miserable experience.  When you go to the jungle and stay in any place that has "eco" in front of its name, you know up front that you aren't going to be in the lap of luxury.  Even with that in mind, there was no preparing for what we experienced.  The room was dirty and there were bugs everywhere.  Ice cold water for the shower was the least of our disappointments.  I could go on, but hopefully, the message is clear.

Your worst nightmare

The dear family that operates the Eco-Lodge is as a sweet as they can be. With that in mind, I will only say that the Eco-Lodge is one step above camping out on the ground with your own private bathroom. With correct camping equipment , camping would be preferable.
