I stayed for one night at Ex-Hacienda. It is a truly stunning boutique hotel. It is an old hacienda, hence the name, the architecture is stunning, and the grounds are immaculate. It is clearly very old, but very well maintained. This is a bpoutique where the word character means exceptional. 

Yes the shower could have been better, a more modern shower head and mixing valves, and more water pressure, but little things like that are so truly trivial to me. The room was clean, the details are gorgeous. I slept like a baby and absolutely loved this boutique hotel.

The room was very good and the food was fantastic! Our room overlooked the pool and offered us a beautiful territorial view of the surrounding countryside. The location in Ocosingo was ideal for touring the town and ruins at Tonina, it is the best hotel in town.

The hotel is located right near all of the tourist places which is extremely convenient. 
Pool is a great size which overlooks a beautiful scenery of the mountains.

Colorful is the word to describe the castle-like Hotel Ex-Hacienda La Ilusión in Ocosingo, Chiapas.  If you're visiting the ruins of Toniná just outside of town or traveling the road to Palenque or San Cristobal de las Casas, stop to admire the fanciful stonework and colored bricks the owners have fused into a mixture of traditional Colonial architecture and Disneyland in Mexico.  Helpful, friendly staff greet you at the front desk or in the towered restaurant, where you can enjoy a shaded breeze while looking out over the hotel's red tile roof and a giant tropical cedar tree in the courtyard below.  Great for single travelers, couples on an archaeological adventure, or families with children.  Tasty, local dishes--chicken, pork, and beef--are highlights in the second floor, open-air restaurant or inside if you prefer.  Although you're in the Land of the Maya, try the Sopa Azteca, spicy with shredded chicken, diced squash and carrots, and strips of tortilla in a rich tomato broth.  Cool it off with a limonada con soda--fresh lemon juice and sparkling water in a tall glass graced with slices of cucumber.  A few caveats:  Ocosingo wakes up early.  By dawn, roosters are crowing and trucks are rumbling down the city streets.  This is not the city for sleeping in, but then, who travels to Chiapas to sleep in?  Because it's on to the ruins of Toniná or the ancient Maya city of Palenque and the adventures that lie ahead.  The hotel is not easily accessible--plenty of stairs, no elevator, and few ramps.  But definitely a great spot for the adventurous traveler.  

The hotel is decorated like a colonial hacienda and is really cool! You feel like you've stepped back in time.  Very inexpensive as well.  It's located close to the Mayan ruins of Tonina.  Their restaurant is very good with typical Oaxacan cuisine.

Authentic Mexico Hacienda Hotel

I really wanted to recommend this hotel.  The building is lovely.  Charming decor and very clean.  But - there is a bar somewhere nearby, that starts up with extremely loud music at night, and it goes on into the early morning hours. The local dogs bark constantly to accompany the music.  The hotel windows are wood-framed and some don't close tight, so the only hope to block some of the noise and sleep is to turn the air con up high.  The staff was fine, restaurant food ok, location a short walk down the hill from the bus and colectivo stations, and walking distance into centro.  Good in so many aspects, but we are travellers who retire fairly early and rise early.  We need to sleep before 2 a.m.  Wifi was only supposed to be available in the lobby, but we could get it intermitently in our room across the road.

Lovely, but...

It's the best hotel in town, but there isn't much choice & it's really only worth it to see the great Mayan ruins nearby at Tonina (they are great - you need at least an hour to climb to the top & see them properly). The architectural style of the hotel is Spanish hacienda meets Hollywood gothic. It has a pool and a restaurant (8am - 9pm) with the usual food staples. The hotel is on both sides of the road - rooms on one side & rooms/pool/restaurant on the other. It is on the main road going out of town & near a bar, so it wasn't quiet until about 2am. 

Useful stop-off

Ocosingo is not a very touristy city, but there are some interesting places nearby.
This hotel is OK, rooms are spacious and beds are comfortable. They have a swimming pool which helps to cope with the hot weather.
