Hotel Hacienda Bahia Chetumal

I booked this hotel for one night last year for our anniversary and we stayed an additional night. It will feel "out of the way", but you are actually across from a beach area on Bahia Chetumal in a very safe area, not too far from the convention center. You are a 30 peso taxi ride away from the pier and popular walkway along the bay. I booked a room with a hot tub and a king sized bed for 850 pesos and an additional 24 hours was 800 pesos. It was fantastic. The hot tub blows water out on the floor, but it's not a problem because the hot tub area is located at a lower level than the bed area. We ran out of hot water for the tub, so we used our hot pot to add more. They have 24 hour room service and is very reasonable in price. What's really cool is that food and drinks are served via a dumbwaiter, so you don't even have to get dressed to get food. We did not use the wi-fi. A basic understanding of Spanish makes your experience much better (ahem,you are in Mexico). They also have rooms with a three car garage and two bedrooms and a shallow pool..good for people traveling in caravans . This place is an upscale Autohotel. It is very clean and the service is excellent. Being an Autohotel, you can also rent a room by the hour, so if you want to just decompress for a half day before heading to Belize, I would highly recommend it for that as well. (Note: the restaurant is in-room service only....not an onsite restaurant.) You are a short taxi distance away from many popular restaurants.
