Fantastic one week stay in the Tower room. Everything is as advertised. Jose and Carmen are exceptionally gracious hosts who have been engaged in supporting the town for over three decades and are a wealth of information, and are a perfect balance of making sure you have what you need and are ok while also leaving you to just enjoy the place and the environs. . Support staff on the premises were courteous and efficient.Birds move through the trees at breakfast every day, while we were there in Feb you could see whales breaching from the breakfast table. Food was good. It's great and we'll be back.

Traveled to Cachala with my two kids (8 & 5) and stayed here on a friends recommendation. Jose and the staff were so accommodating from the booking process to the taxi home. The hotel is in the jungle but right on the beach (breathtaking views).  It is more of a rustic vibe (all well described on the website) but perfect for relaxation and peace and quiet. 
As for the restaurant - The food was delicious and we looked forward to breakfast each morning and dinner when we stayed in as well. 
*if you’re are there Thursday-Sunday hit up the Tapas Bar which is fantastic!  
We cannot wait to go back. It was a perfect week in a magical place.

I was doing a yoga retreat at adjacent Mar de Jade and due to an oversold situation was placed in this hotel, which is located closer than some of the furthest hotel rooms in Mar de Jade. It was quiet, quaint and delightful. I can’t comment on the food as I was on a meal plan at the other hotel but my room was sweet with a beautiful view and the staff could not have been nicer. With only six rooms, I imagine it would be a very intimate experience dining on the six or so tables that overlooks the ocean. Really lovely

I was going to write a long and detailed review, but then I read the recent rave reviews by Sunandski1963, Venture80954, and Marina R.  They have said almost everything I intended to say, and I can enthusiastically echo everything they have said.  

I'll add just a few things:

* This place is unique, and if you stay here you have easy access to all of the more conventional pleasures of the other resort facilities on Chacala Bay.  Majahua is at the south end of the bay, with a rocky shore just below.  Just north of it is the more ordinary Mar de Jade resort.  We were able to dine and hang out there because other members of our extended family were staying there; I'm not sure what the deal is if you don't have that connection.  From Mar de Jade all the way up to the town of Chacala at the North end of the bay is an excellent sandy public beach.  Chacala itself is (to my eyes) a somewhat tacky seaside tourist town, with some good restaurants (such as Chac Mool), a lot of chances to buy reasonably priced tourist trinkets, and plenty of other more oridinary tourist accommodations.  The joy of staying at Majahua is that all of these other experiences are available to you, AND at the end of the day you go back home to this wonderful unique place in the jungle on the steep hillside, like no place else.

* We were at Majahua with our extended family, and we rented three of the five (or six?) suites.  So we got an intimate taste of how Jose has designed and built each space in this place to be a unique, special, intimate, and beautiful place to be.  This is the very opposite of a hotel with the long hallways of identical rooms.

* A few things about the place will make it even more attractive to some (like us) and a deal-killer for others.  Finding your way to Majahua is not easy, and it's best to arrive by daylight.  This difficulty is partly by design, as it contributes to the peaceful solitude of the site not to have lots of drop-ins looking for a place to stay.  The site itself is not handicapped-accessible; you need to traverse a lot of uneven steps and cobblestone walkways to make your way between your suite, the dining room, the beach, the baths, etc.

A unique and exquisite experience

Is in a very nice location you can see almost all the bay area of Chacala.
Nice view.
The place has only 6 rooms this is good is very quiet and relaxing ambiance.

Needs more attention to details:  some of the light bulbs were not working in the terrace also lights missing on the pathways making difficult to find your way at night or missing.

The music is horrible please don’t play any music your don’t need it at all.

The breakfast is good.  
Having a meal (lunch or dinner) there did not sound very appetizing looking at the menu.  Instead of offering a ton of random options,  they could have four or five good dishes on the menu 
A good fish dish is a must to have and could be a good idea for one of the four or five good dishes.

Having a nice bar could be better.


Could be better

Had been to this hotel in the past and had a marvellous experience, but owner was away this time, so the standards and services offered became inconsistent because it really depends on the personal touches that he puts into his visitors' stays that makes it a unique place to visit (and the fact that his English is excellent) The current staff just don't have the experience he does.  Room was lovely, but adjacent to another room with noisy visitors on the last two nights. Room needed some fixes and maid service was inconsistent. Still fantastic breakfasts and gorgeous location, but not worth the money compared to what is on offer elsewhere!

Not quite what it was...

My husband and I stayed here 10 years ago on our honeymoon and have such fond memories. We have been planning our return to celebrate our anniversary for years!  Jose is great with communication and answered all of our questions promptly (especially re: travelling in a pandemic and with a child.)  We stayed in La Torre and the views were incredible.  It should be noted that this hotel is RUSTIC.  If you have ANY mobility issues, you should look elsewhere.  The parking area is 1/4 mile (or a bit less) from the rooms/restaurant. It is on a steep hillside with stairs connecting everything. Bring a flashlight. Many of the lights did not work.  Bring bug spray. We gotten eaten up. . . possibly by sand fleas/ no see-ums and mosquitos.  The screens in our room were damaged or ill fitting, allowing all kinds of bugs into the room.  On our final night, we got up 5+ times to remove ants, beetles, roaches, and random bugs  that crawled across our daughter in her bed. The breakfast was delicious, except for some very foul smelling cheese that was on the beans. We asked them to leave it off after the 2nd day of getting served the cheese.    
Andrea was super friendly and helpful.  Jose was not on site during our stay.  While we did not ask for it explicitly, we thought that we might get some special  acknowledgement of our 10 year anniversary. Especially at 160 per night, for a 5 night stay.    We were given one small bottle of water per day.  I would recommend that you bring enough bottled water with you for your entire stay or else you are going to be carrying it on a 30 minute walk from town or driving back up a super rutted road into town.  It seems like unlimited safe water should be included at this price point.  There was no air conditioning, which we knew ahead of time, but it was hot. I mean desperately hot, so plan accordingly. ( Like, stay someplace with AC and secure windows.)   We were provided with a mini fridge to keep water and some food. It was a lifesaver!
This is the off season and a pandemic, so it's possible that many stores were not open, but there wasn't really any shopping to speak of in Chacala. The food at beachside restaurants was good. Everyone in Chacala was very friendly and it is beyond lush and gorgeous. 

We ended up leaving a day early for San Pancho, and since there are no refunds given, we just ate the $160 for the last night.  We ended up staying at an amazing place for 1/3 the cost, clean and AC, kitchen and unlimited water, on the beach.  I hate to give an unfavorable review, but we were pretty disappointed.  Either the rates should be lower, or the amenities improved a bit.

beach is 15+ minute walk away, over rocks and a little creek
have to wait until 9am for coffee or walk into town
overall table service slightly lacking (had to go ask for second cup of coffee or another beer)
no beach umbrella or beach towels available
pool had lots of dead crabs and leaves in it
"king size bed" was two twins pushed together with an uncomfortable crack
sheets directly on top of the mattress--lots of tiny pill balls that felt like sleeping on teeny pebbles
