Bungalows Solecito

My husband and I have enjoyed this resort for many years and this year our sons joined us.  It was a wonderful holiday.  The grounds are kept beautifully by Jorge and there’s a beautiful pool. The new chef served us delicious meals.  The rooms and bungalows are very comfortable. Bara de Potosi is a nice walk down the beach with many great little restaurants on the beach.  It is a very clean and safe destination.  I highly recommend it!

An absolute slice of tranquil heaven. Bungalows were cozy, beds and pillows comfortable. Location cannot be beat - perfectly positioned between Barra de Potosí and the town of Playa Blanca. 

Breakfast was quite tasty, as was dinner. Massage I had was good, Gille and Jorge were friendly, and Blanca was available by WhatsApp for any questions I had. Can't wait to go back!

We first discovered this gem five years ago and, after missing it for two years, we were so happy to get back this year!
The property is very well maintained.  All the rooms and casitas are lovely, the beach is outstanding and the town of Bara de Potosí is a nice walk, whether for lunch, an early dinner or just an afternoon margarita.
The pool is a good size and a perfect temperature- refreshing yet comfortable.  There are lots of comfortable lounge chairs for sitting by the pool or on the beach under a palapa.
We loved having the full breakfast every morning!  It was delicious!

Solecito is a lush private setting on Playa Blanca, near Zihuatanejo.   The ten casitas are small houses, with kitchen, porch, hammock, and at the beach, which has plenty of palapas for lounging.  The grounds are impeccable, as is the pool.  As this is an adult-only facility, the pool is a quiet, restful setting.   There is internet provided, and the onsite restaurant is one of the better along the beach. I could easily spend most of a morning at breakfast as the view is breathtaking and the fresh juices, fruit plates, fresh breads, and main dishes are hard to leave.  It is 10 minutes from the airport, but has no noise at all.  It is also a short walk to the small village of Potosi, which has many beachfront empanadas to choose from,  a few small stores and a fruit stand.  The beach, Playa Blanca, is within a broad embayment, so it is partially sheltered from the Pacific waves.  The southern end is more sheltered by Guamilule, a small mountain projecting seaward.   Swimming is remarkable, as the Pacific water is so warm.  

Playa Blanca is also less than 1/2 hour from Zihuatanejo, a medium-sized city with an Old Town near the waterfront, beaches, shops, and a local fishing fleet that  lands on the beach each morning.   You can buy fresh fish from the fisherman, or at the Mercado, which has everything you could want, including bountiful fish. 

As it seems most people know, the most famous thing that ever happened in Zihuatanejo never happened:  It's where Tim Robbins and Morgan Freeman escaped to in the movie, Shawshank Redemption, a cult classic.  In the movie it was where you could go to and never be found.   It's progressed a bit from then, but still is a remote area with modern airport connections.

It seems that most visitors go north of Zihua to Ixtapa, which is a strip of large hotels on the beach.  This is a blessing, as most are not aware of Playa Blanca, which is the real jewel.  

We were so delighted when we walked into Bungalows Solecito.  We found this property on tripadvisor, having no personal experience.  It is everything you could want.  The beach is amazing!   You can walk for miles and rarely see another person.  My husband loved swimming in the ocean daily, while I enjoyed our long walks, sitting under the palm trees on the beach or by the lovely pool.  We appreciated the fridge in our room, and the water pressure in the shower.  The room was lovely and the breakfasts that are included, were delicious.  Blanca is a gracious hostess with excellent English and can help with any questions.  We ate at the restaurant a few evenings and also enjoyed some of the local restaurants down the beach in Barra de Potosi.  We felt very safe walking on the beach at night, just take a flashlight with you.  We definitely recommend Bungalows Solecito and look forward to going back.

I stayed there with some friends for a weekend. The hotel is lovely, comfortable, clean, big rooms, and perfectly located in front of the beach. It is very close to the airport, the beach is close to Ixtapa, but it is a non touristic beach perfect for rest. The pool is awesome. The service is great, everyone was helpful and nice. The food (breakfast and dinner) was delicious. Great chef. I definitely want to return and stay for a whole week.

We spent a week at Bungalow Solecito and found it to be the best vacation of our lives.   It was everything that we have been searching for: a beautiful, peaceful and restful location with no crowds and no noise.  The casitas are very comfortable and clean, the ocean is perfect for swimming, the grounds are impeccable, and the staff is helpful and friendly.   Not to mention the food, the chef is a magician with fish and the breakfasts are incredible.   Everything is served fresh with a focus on seasonal delights.  Blanca and Manuel are friendly and helpful hosts.
Walk the beach, swim in the pool, nap in the hammock on your front porch.   This is truly paradise!

Bungalows Solecito is a special place - far from the maddening crowds on Mexican resort beaches.  No jet ski noise, no high rise hotels, no "been seen" crowd - Mexico the way it used to be - and is - at this gem of a hotel.

Wonderful, helpful on-site owners (Blanca speaks perfect English too), comfortable rooms or bungalows surrounded by gardens right on the beach.  I enjoyed a long walk and swim before breakfast (served until 11am) then had delicious fresh fruit, huevos rancheros and other delectable choices.  Dinner was delicious - fresh fish delicately prepared with rice and veggies, a good margarita and dessert.  Or you can walk down the beach to palm frond roofed restaurants right on the beach. Watch the sunset and the quiet beach scene of pelicans, sand pipers and waves rolling in.

What a relaxing week!!

Solecito means solecito - the location is very remote, perhaps because it was the low season - but was a 15 min beach walk to the several seafood enramadas in Barra de Potosi. My boyfriend and I were basically the only people staying here, and we enjoyed the peace and quiet. The staff were friendly but absent, which we didn't mind. Pool was clean and large, and the location right on the beach was sweet. Accommodation was wonderful, and they cooked us a delicious breakfast. 

One scary note that isn't the hotel's fault: there were a bunch of extremely venomous yellow-bellied sea snakes washed up on the beach (we spotted 5), due to El Niño this year. I've heard they've been seen on the Pacific Coast as far north as Los Angeles this year.

Beautiful, Quiet And Welcoming Small Hotel On Gorgeous, Non-touristy Beach!

The water in the pool was green, we found a scorpion in my son's bed that is deadly if you get stung on the face , throat ,or abdomen. We got a bacterial infection (probably from the green pool water) and there is only one bathroom for the whole place. I was wondering why nobody else was staying there for the whole month we were in Barra de Potosi
