Roashanee Guest House

Mulah

Mulah is unsuitable for tourists who want to stay longer then 2 days or habve a beach vacation. It´s like being put into a local village and one gets an impression how people live there. We stayed for 12 nights. I had lots of contact in advance with the owner of the guesthouse, who let me believe that we actually could have a beach vacation there. This is the main reason for the negative rating.

Pro Island
•	Friendly people
•	Two good sorted gorcery stores near the guesthouse. 
•	Two nice Cafés with seaview that also serve food (but targeted only to natives) near the guesthouse

Contra Island
•	Most locals obviously don’t care for tourists and have no concept of tourism.
•	Trash: above and under water outside the village the island is completely trashed.
•	Bikini beach can´t be used because it has plastic and (broken) glass bottles and sharp-edged metal pieces all over the place. It´s also not convenient for swimming: the water is shallow for a long time and one would have to walk over rocks (stonefish and other poisonous sea creatures) or put on shoes to get to an area where one could swim. Also it´s not an official bikini beach: when families come there one isn´t allowed to be in there in a bikini.
•	No house reef: snorkeling around the island all you see is old trash (cans and all kinds of garbage) and surprisingly many fish. Maybe if you have never been snorkeling before, it´s ok.
•	The nearby reef you can get by a 5 minute boat ride isn´t worth mentioning (dead corals) and lots of fish but nothing special.
•	If you want to eat fish you have to catch it yourself. We managed to get very well grilled fish one time at the restaurant of the owners brother.

The guesthouse consists of three floors. In the first and second floor there is one bedroom with a huge glass front and in the 3rd floor there es a terrace with kitchen. The rooms have TV that we didn´t use, fridges and one had a water cooker. There was also ironing gear. The wardrobes are solid, dry an smell good. We bought two sun lounges prior to our arrival. Maybe they are still there. We didn´t get the promised sun umbrellas, but we wouldn´t have known what to use them for, since the bikini beach practically doesn´t exist.
The host tries to be helpful and sometimes reminded us of people in India, who did everything to create a positive relationship even when everything turns out to be completely different in reality. He promised all kinds of things (a bikini beach good for swimming, sun umbrellas, windows to open in the bedrooms) Also he promised to meet us at the jetty in Male but never showed up there. This wasn´t a problem we did find the speedboat on our own. It just would have been much easier, if we wouldn´t have to search for a person there but had known the name of our speedboat instead. 

Pro Guesthouse
•	Large rooms
•	Low price
•	Roof terrace with view (while standing)
•	Kitchen with everything you need (missing items can be bought in the nearby  store)
•	Clean linen and towels
•	No cockraches in the rooms in 12 nights
•	Working washing machine
•	Very kind and good English speaking contact person (Asif) 

Contra Guesthouse
•	One bedroom has no windows to open. So one is forced to sleep with AC.
•	The second bedroom has windows to open but gets very hot during the day. 
•	The hardest beds I ever slept on
•	The guesthouse has no door on the ground floor, so all the fumes from the motorbikes draft upstairs through the staircase like through a chimney. 
•	the house is built in second row to the sea, very close to a pier that was used repeatedly by fishing boats who leave their motors running for 6,7 hours. That means noise and depending on the wind you sit in strong diesel fumes all day. 
•	House located next to the main road which isn´t a drama but motorbikes come by regularly. 
•	Despite us asking a few times the terrace hasn´t been cleaned once in 12 days.

We have been unlucky with the weather: For 12 days the sea has been very rough. So we didn´t have the possibility to go on boattrips. We didn´t use the offer to spend the day at the nearby resort island Medhufushi ($ 40,- one trip)

This island isn´t convenient for tourists - beach is trashed and unusable in bikini
