Hotel Blue Paradise

if you have to stay in male for a night, stay in hulhumale instead. blue paradise is cheap, very clean and nicely decorated. owner speaks fluent english and is very helpful. beach is 1 minute walk away and all cafes and restaurants are just opposite. i will book it again when i come back to maldives.

I would recommend this hotel over others in Hulhumale and even in Male'. I did extensive research on properties within the same budget and this property just ticked all the boxes. I didn't stay there longer than 1 night so I'm just reviewing this as a transit hotel. The staff and owners are friendly and honest and really took care of us. I requested for a Maldivian breakfast (Mas huni) and they organised that for me at a local breakfast place just around the corner (it was a complimentary breakfast). 

We had a problem with the pre-arranged transfers as the people they contacted to pick us up were late and we ended up sharing the "car" with another couple. There was a bit of a problem with which car we were supposed to get a ride with. That's the problem with Hulhumale, they only have a public bus that runs once an hour and no taxis can pick people up at the airport. So we arrived quite late for check in and were so tired. One more tip...you can't exchange money at the airport to US dollars. And everything seems to be listed in US$. We didn't know at the time but you can pay for things in Maldivian Rufiyaa, just ask them to work out the exchange rate and exchange just enough. You don't need Rufiyaa at the resorts!

The owners really went out of their way to help us with exchanging money and they really saved us from missing our seaplane flight as they helped us contact our hotel for our departure time which we were never notified of. Without them, we would have missed our connection. The room was spacious and looked out to the street but there was a tree there so it felt like we were looking out into a garden. The bathroom was the reason why I chose this place as most places have those open showers that are right next to the toilet...how disgusting!!! I think they're called a Maid's bathroom. Anyways, I really didn't want that kind of a shower/toilet set up so when I found this property, I just had to book it! 

The only reason why it doesn't have a 5 star review is that the electrical plugs and door knob were loose and the wifi was extremely slow! It took a long time to open up an email. Also, the flashing neon lights in the room almost gave me a seizure, luckily, you can turn that off! The bed was very hard but after a long flight, it didn't matter. Those are just small issues that prevented it from getting a full 5 star rating. But I have a feeling that this property is as best as you can get around Hulhumale...a lot of the other places look run down. The best about this property is the owners who are professional, trustworthy and friendly. That's all you really need for a transit hotel, and a separate shower complete with a rainshower head, that was an unexpected surprise and the water pressure was good too!

transit hotel with a proper shower

We had a night before our flight back to Europe the next morning and instead of staying in Male we went to Hulhumhale just north of the airport. There were new owners to the hotel and they were very friendly, but some things were missing. They didn't offer transportation to and from the airport (but the planned to in the future) and to book a taxi you need a local telephone number. Cost to the airport was 110 rufyies one way, could only be paid in local currency. They didn't have breakfast at the hotel even though this was included in the room price. But in the morning they walked with us to a nearby café where we were served a superyummy breakfast. (the hotel paid the bill). Wifi was awesome in our room and the room was nice and clean and great air-con. But there was no safe in the room. 
Hulhumhale will probably have even more hotels in a few years since they are building everywhere, unfortunately it is so dirty. Trash is just thrown all over the place. on the streets, by the beach etc. It's a pity. I would only recommend this island for a lay-over, not as a destination.

Nice and clean hotel!

Well, let me start by saying this; I would recommend this hotel to everybody, if they're in hualemale (prounounce?) for a transitnight, but otherwise, I would rather spend my visit on one of the other islands, but for a transit its more than ok

The staff is really friendly and helpful! Speak good english and seem to have good knowledge of Maldives and their paradiseislands.

The room is what you ecpect, clean, the bed was good, AC and the bathroom was also good.

The only negative is the breakfast, which I forgot to mention for the Ceo, but it's what your expect for the price.

My ratings is based upon hotelstandard and not as a transithotel. If I could rate it as a transithotel it would be 5! 

Transithotel

It seems that the management is new to hotel industry. No one from the staff had a clue of what was going on.
Our room didn't have cable TV access. There were no toiletries in the bathroom.
Wifi didn't work the whole time.
We had to go out to near by Mumbai Express restaurant to have dinner.

There is Ample room for improvement. Property is nice otherwise. It is located at a very convenient location.
