This place has a good location, right next to McDonald's and behind the cat statue. In fact the location is too good, almost surrounded by traffic. A short walk to the river promenade and ATMs across the street.

Room and common areas are very clean. Bathroom a bit scruffy. You live together with the family and share their living room and bathroom. The family is really nice and they have a adorable daughter.

Coffee, tea and water available all day. Breakfast is toast with jam/peanut butter.

Traffic is noisy, and the sound from the pedestrian signal sounds like a small jack hammer. Annoying when you have gone to bed and try to sleep. Air con was good, bed normal. WiFi was good. A computer is available for use.

All right place

This place is ran by a family who are extremely nice and helpful! They have snacks, tea and coffee throughout the day. It's a nice location walking distance to restaurants, bars the riverfront. 

The room we had was nice and comfortable. However there was a rather "bad sewer smell"? But I think that might have been the pipes/buildings problem and not the room.  
The wifi was a spotty for us which was a huge inconvenience.

It's ok

The location is superb, within walking distance to waterfront, bus stops and restaurants. We stayed in a 4 bed dorm, but were lucky to not have to share it with others. Rooms are clean, bright, good aircon and lockers. Blankets are way too thick for this climate, but they are provided, as are the towels. Shared bathroom / toilet not the cleanest. Lots of water on the ground (bring your slippers!) and a bad smell. Breakfast was toast with jam/peanutbutter which you can prepare yourself. Filtered water, coffee, tea and fridge available 24/7. It is a family house, family and their friends watch tv, use computer, etc. Not noisy, so it didn't bother us, in fact, we liked the homey feeling it gave us.

All in all: price / quality is ok, we would come back.

Good location, cleanliness ok

GoRest is in a great location, about 5 minutes from the waterfront. It is close to banks with 24hour ATMs, restaurants, a convenience shop, and the bus to Bako national park. It is located above a massage and reflexology parlour that looked pretty good.

 I paid extra for a room with my own bathroom. It was small and simple but a clean and comfortable place to lay my head. You can help yourself to toast an  fruit in the morning, and there is a water filter for guests to use. 

 The family who own the guest house are lovely, very friendly an  helpful. Their young daughter is adorable. 

 The  thing to remember  is that this is a family home. The area outside the bedrooms is the family living room. The family have friend  over and  watch tv, the  little girl has the odd tantrum. I liked the feeling of living closely with the family, but it will not be for everyone..... I would also recommend eating  plugs. 

 Overall, I enjoyed  my stay and I would go back again if I was  in kuching.

A comfortable stay in a family home in a good location.

Well. we came here during our backpacking trip through Malaysia because of the super positive feedbacks and my final word is: NEVER AGAIN. I'm sorry because actually the owners are really nice but the place does not worth a visit. Our double room was OK with aircon and towels but the bathroom was a real nightmare. Insects everywhere with a sewage smell and really not clean. There's a kind of breakfast provided but as we saw it there were insects there too (they look like fleas but really don't know what they are). The position is good, from here you can easily visit Kuching  by walk. I really wonder why some people gave this hostel such high marks, hope you hygiene is better than this.
