Very goof location, friendly boss and laska is best, i really like the dorm , very clean and comfort , 
the unforgotten thing is the boss is very help full to help us book a grab car to AP very quick and chip
thank you.

Stayed 4 nights the facilities are basic - it’s behind an eyelash/ hair cut place and so literally just has rooms and bathrooms, no kitchen area as such just does offer free filtered water & a drinks fridge to buy from. 

Check in was chaotic but I don’t think they were the regular staff on when I checked in, my bed had to be made right then and there. Bathroom is basic but hot showers are a bonus. 
No laundry service but they do point you in the direction of a launderette if need be & it’s in a very good location for food and all the little tourist shops to get souvenirs from

They only have small lockers available so can’t find your whole bag in there and you must provide your own padlock 

Air con was VERY cold - jumper was needed

The 40-year-old recipe was the reason we were drawn here, and we made the right decision. We liked the big chunks of pineapple and fish. It is rare to get the whole file of mackerel in your laksa, so that was a pleasant surprise here. The strings of fresh zucchini and the perfectly cooked noodles added a nice texture component to the dish. We like it when the noodles are more firm instead of being overcooked and therefore soft. The amount of chili was too generous for us, but in return, our noses certainly got a thorough cleansing! It ranked on top 5 laksa bowls you should have a taste when in George Town. Can not complain as for me everything is amazing. The staff is friendly, the room is good (air-con), and the bathroom has its cold and hot showers. Besides, the hostel (or homestay) provides a PC for the visitor. What I don't like the most is that the laksa restaurant within the place is a bit smelly.

I want to rate 3.5 stars but there is no option for this. 
Good points :
1. Excellent location : in the centre of George town and you can go to any points of interest by foot. 
2. Staffs are friendly and helpful. 
3. The dorm room is spacious.
4. The toilets get all the toiletries that you need. 
5. Many hangers in the bathroom 
6. The laksa in the affiliated laksa shop of the hostel is cheap and delicious. 
7. Separation of shower and toilet. 

Bad points :
1. The hostel is new but the building itself is old. 
2. The room and bathroom are not dirty but can be cleaner. 
3. Something for preventing the mosquitos should be set up.
4. It will be great if they have lockers in the room
5. The staff is not always available.

Hidden gem in George town 

Exellent Hostel

Cookoo bird home is a charming little hostel with a restaurant below it. It is in a central location, and the rooms are OK. The floor is squeaky, and the walls thin sheets of compressed wood. This is all fine for the price until you finally step in the restroom. The shared restroom was super gross, with some sort of synthetic grass on the floor, which maybe funky but too much funk for an already yucky restroom. The price is attractive, but you can find many other nicer cheap, and definitely cleaner places in Georgetown. Also we did the booking on booking.com and we were displeased to find that the restroom was shared where on the app it didn't specify that, like many other places clearly do when that is the case. To be more specific the room description said "tall restroom", which I guess was their way to disguise "shared".
