Lilongwe

Stayed in both the studio and the double bedroom. Both are within the same secure compound. The quality is decent and staff are helpful.

I stayed here on 3 seperate ocassions during my 2 months in Malawi. The apartments offer a great value alternative to staying in a hotel, with a range of different priced studios. The beds are comfortable, staff are friendly and breakfast is delivered to your room at an agreed time.
The area is relatively quiet but only a short distance from town by bus or taxi.

The rooms are fully furnished, with constant electricity and water. The staff is very helpful and welcoming. Definitely suggested for a stay in Lilongwe.

Wow! The best place to be, so quiet and relaxing after a long day of work. The service is top notch. There is alot privacy because of the design of the rooms. And very affordable! Thank you spendwise.


Home away from home

I have stayed at Soendwise Furnished Apartments for a couple of times and I always enjoyed my stay. 

Clean and beautiful rooms. 
It is a self catering apartment so I had the freedom to eat what I want and when I want. 
Mary the owner is very friendly and always helpful. 
There are several apartments on the compound but it is always quiet. 

I can recommend it to everyone visiting Lilongwe and not prepared for the bustle and hustle of a hotel stay.

Lovely Place with a feel of home.

Mary the owner was very helpful but even her kindness, and the cheap price, couldn't save this place. the staff were nice, but amateurish. It needs someone with a hospitality background. The room was poor. only 2 lightbulbs out of five working. I was given a lamp but that didn't throw much light. there were electrical problems in the kitchen, including exposed wires mended with sellotape. The bed was tired, and the couch uncomfortable. WiFi was problematic despite Mary's efforts to provide it.

Spend wise Review

I was lucky to find an airport taxi driver who knew the place. Unlike other lodges in the area, Spendwise Lodge and Apartments is totally unmarked, to avoid attracting the attention of thieves! The lodge is situated along a dirt road in the middle of nowhere. Apart from a tiny convenience store around the corner, there isn't a single shop or restaurant within walking distance.

Arrived at the lodge, the security guard needed to make a call to check my reservation. I could relax in a different apartment while my room was being prepared. When I was shown to my "suite", I was sorely disappointed. The low-grade furniture made the place look cheap, while the bathroom was absolutely tiny.

The apartment did not feature A/C, which many visitors to Lilongwe would consider essential. There was a small fan, but it wasn't even working. Luckily, it was overcast & raining during most of my stay.

I was given a local SIM card and a WiFi router (both Airtel). You'll need to buy phone credit to be able to use either service.

While I wasn't a huge fan of the apartment, the owner of the lodge was a godsend. Mary brought me a carton of orange juice. Mary drove me to City Mall, where she owns a clothes store. Mary gave me directions on how to get to the mall by public transport. Mary explained how to get the most out of my phone credit. Mary recommended taxi drivers who didn't charge extortionate rates. I would have been totally lost without Mary!

City Mall features a supermarket and a KFC. Neither of the 2 ATMs would accept any of my cards, so I had to avail of the services of the money changer inside the supermarket.

Spendwise Lodge is a decent budget option for travelers with their own transport. Without transport, you'll either struggle or spend a small fortune on overpriced taxis.
