I really want to give this hotel a good review, because I got a lot of help from the lady in reception when I had a few problems,  but the hotel does have a few issues.   I have stayed a couple of times and one the first visit I had a really awful bathroom, with mouldy chipped tiles, no hot water and a shower cubicle which would not shut.   The furniture was dingy and chipped.   The restaurant takes forever to get a meal out to you, and breakfast provides bacon and sausages but if you want an egg you have to wait about half an hour by which time everything else is cold.    There are no instructions for connection to the internet in the rooms and you have to go back to reception to get a print out, and then its a long complicated process to get connected.   On my second visit the bathroom was much nicer and cleaner with hot water, so it depends on which room you get.   They could really improve this hotel with a few tweaks.    However, it is in a gated complex which makes it feel quite safe for a lone traveller, but you cannot walk into town at night as its too far out.   Taxi service provided for the airport is $40 compared to the $30 with an airport taxi.

Mixed feelings

This is such a friendly peaceful hotel and I do like staying here, but it does have some short comings. It is a steep price for what you get. Rooms are spacious and clean but there is some mouldy smell in some bathrooms. The garden is nice so a table and chairs somewhere to sit in the garden would not have hurt…. The internet does not reach the rooms and breakfast is rather basic. Regarding the restaurant: Order your dinner an hour before you want it and you will be fine.

This hotel has potential.

Had 2 nights in Lilongwe and found the accommodation to be very good. Nice size room with good quality furnishings. Centralised location and rates were reasonable.
Breakfasts were a typical buffet style but the staff were friendly and food was good.
Only negatives were that the WiFi is slow and there was no bar area to wind down in after a busy day. 

Great rooms and good food

I stayed at Mafumu Hotel in Lilongwe for four nights in October 2019. It is ideally situated in a secure site about 15-20 minutes walk from the Old Town. The rooms are clean and spacious and the staff, especially the reception team, are wonderfully friendly and most helpful. The food was good though it was difficult to assess the true quality of the restaurant which was undergoing a major refurbishment whilst I was there.
If you do stay at the Mafumu, make sure to visit Lilongwe Wildlife Centre - about 15 minutes' taxi ride away  - and try to do your tourist shopping in the calm and peaceful Old Town Mall rather than the modern, flashy Lilongwe City Mall or its frenetic, nearby market.

Pleasant hotel with very helpful staff

this is the most expensive lodge I have used in Malawi but I found it to be good value as the room was great. Fantastic bed, good tva nd aircon, very nice bathroom, cooking facilities. The food at the restaurant was very nice. There is no dedicated bar however the restaurant staff were more than happy to serve me beers in the lovely garden.
I was particularly impressed by the staff at reception and at the restaurant, with special thanks to Mercy and Sarah
The location is great for trips into Lilongwe for shopping and also for the airport

It is a nice lodge, will very good rooms. Very comfortable beds.The place is close to Lilongwe CBD and no that far from airport.It is very quite and their are alot of improvements work being done.if you are in Lilongwe, make it s point to visit this place

GOOD STAY AT MAFUMU LODGE

The rooms are pleasant and have a tea station and a microwave which is very convenient for long stay visitors. The restaurant is basic but the food is quiet good. The breakfast buffet offered in the morning has limited options. No free WiFi connectivity

Homey and Pleasant

I stayed at this Hotel for one night while travelling through Malawi.   It's basically OK, and is tucked away behind large gates which makes it secure.   The rooms are large, but I found them to be a bit dingy and the rows of rooms were a bit barrack -like.  Shower was stone cold in the morning, so glad I had a shower the night before when it was warm.   The food was reasonable, nothing special, but the outside sitting area was pleasant at night.   A hotel taxi pickup  from the airport up had been arranged, but sadly this never arrived.   However the local airport taxi's were cheaper at $35 instead of the $40 quoted by hotel.   Some of the others in my party had problems with payments on check out, with the hotel trying to charge them the full price after deposits had been paid and also prices quoted on line were not matched on the day.   All in all, fine for an overnight cheapish stopover, but I wouldn't want to spend much time there.

OK Hotel for a short stopover

Stayed over for one night on business. Room was large, clean, quiet, need a little tlc, but everything was working. Wifi was not so great in rooms far away from main reception. Restaurant was great. Chambo fish was the best.
