The diving experience was amazing. They had everything sorted and available for us. 
The food was great (breakfast and dinner was included in our accommodation.
The rooms were clean and comfortable and provided the perfect holiday feel. Our villa was right on the beach and we were merely a few steps away from the water!

Scuba holiday

We had a mango bungalow (there was nothing else available) and WOW it was unbearably hot! There is no aircon, just one fan which doesn't even start to cut through the heat, and the power is off from 2am to 9.30am, so expect to wake up at 2.30am bathed in sweat. These rooms store up heat, and even with all the shutters wide open (which isn't ideal since some windows don't have mosquito netting and the sun rises early) they stay significantly hotter than outside temperatures. Absolutely do not stay in one of these, it was awful. Also there's no door to the bathroom, just a small cloth.

For the rest - the staff is nice, the food is good (great vegetarian food), although there's no choice, they just ask you what you don't like at check in and you are surprised for dinner each night. The bar has some atmosphere during the day, but stops serving at 9.30pm, so there's nothing to do at night.

We found it slightly short of sunloungers, and a lot of them were under trees, meaning you have a fry in deet or be eaten alive by bugs trade-off to make.

The snorkelling with turtles is just in front of the hotel (swim out, walk along the side, or get dropped off on the way back from a boat trip), and they are huge! Don't miss this.

The dive equipment is in good condition, and the boat rides aren't too long. The lady running the dive centre can be rather rude / unapproachable to try to organise anything with, although she is extremely good in an instructor / guide setting. Aim to talk to one of the other instructors! Also the fluro diving is amazing, give it a try.

The room was unbearable

Our Madiro bungalow was right on the beach and we were entertained by black lemurs in the adjacent forest on our first evening. We could lie in bed listening to the waves. In front of the lodge is a turtle reserve and we never swam without seeing at least one green turtle.
Jose and his team are very friendly and attentive.  Dinner in the evening was a set 3 courses which never disappointed and lunch could be ordered from an extensive 'snack menu'. We really enjoyed the cocktails. The service was outstanding. Mentioning we were going for a walk to watch the sun set, our departure was delayed while we were kitted out with a cool box, bottle of wine and glasses! Every evening our room was prepared with mosquito nets and a mosquito coil was lit. Our laundry was done for us and returned sparkling and ironed for a reasonable price.
We dived on 4 days and it was wonderful. We were very well looked after by Masha. Emma, Tim, Jose and the team. The dive centre was very professional and the diving relaxed with a range of lovely nearby dive sites. The equipment was of high quality and everything was magically fitted, carried and cleaned for us. All we had to do was checks before dropping in and looking at the fish! Between dives we returned for coffee while the tanks were changed for us. We snorkelled with whale sharks on our way to the dive sites.
We enjoyed a 3 hour guided nature walk which gave an insight into local lifeapart from this we didn't leave the lodge- Why leave paradise? 

Highly recommended simple lodge in idyllic setting with excellent dive centre

We spent one week here, snorkelling, diving and relaxing and just loved it all... we could have stayed longer.
We booked a basic chalet type room with a large bed, storage facilities, toilet and shower. Built from stone, timber and palm the rooms go for a traditional natural style with no glass etc. Basically little rays of sunshine leak into the room during the warm days while the sounds at night really make the holiday - particularly from the resident lemurs.  There are no room safes, security is not an issue here (doors etc. are rarely locked) and everything is perfectly safe. Wi-fi is available to each room but limited to 500mb ( more than enough if you really need it).  
There is a large bar, dining area, dive shop, gift shop and massage room manned by friendly and helpful staff. Meals must be pre-booked and the food was always very good. The hotel does it’s best to accommodate differing tastes and diets but it does sometimes cause (minor) issues as this is an island with limited foodstuffs and electricity (no power is available to rooms for a few hours during darkness and midday). On one occasion we really had to negotiate meal choices/times to avoid clashes over activities and meal times but to the lodges credit they did facilitate our requests - but they can only go so far!
Activity wise, Emma & Tim are great dive guides and the ‘fluro’ dives were a great experience, there is a turtle sanctuary nearby overseen by Mascha who gave an interesting talk on her worthy project - we also got to see many large turtles.  Boat trips are available and we got to snorkel with whale sharks, whales, rays & dolphins.  Finally, the weather was awesome and the water really warm, we really enjoyed Sakatia and would love to return.

Just loved this place...

This was one of the most magical places we have stayed in and we travel a lot. 

Everything was wonderful and there was nothing to fault. 

The highlight for us was the diving. Emma and Masha are fantastic. My partner went diving with Emma and raves about how awesome she was and professional. I went out with Masha and, as a terrified first time diver, her magic touch managed to get me diving with turtles and very beautiful fish! Really exceptional diving team and area to dive in.

The rest of the Sakatia Lodge team are also wonderful, Kind and thoughtful. They really make this a fantastic place to stay. 

The food is great, we are fussy eaters ... one vegetarian and one no fish and they catered to us so well. Tasty and healthy. 

The bungalows are lovely. We stayed in villa Tonga which is right on the beach and has very special views. Recommend this as you wake up a few metres from a jump into the ocean. 

The lodge has some resident lemurs which are also awesome to spot and watch. 

Wish we could have stayed longer and will definitely be returning!

Exceptional hotel with wonderful staff

Wonderful  experience to swim with green back turtles in their natural habitat. A green turtle sanctuary just in front of the lodge. We also learned some interesting facts about them from Masha, the dive instructor of Sakatia Lodge. Very grateful for people like her making a difference in such a beautiful country.

Green Back Turtels

My daughter and I spend an idyllic week at this well maintained, rustic lodge set in beautiful tropical gardens on Sakatia Island.  The staff were friendly and efficient, the breakfasts were good but dinners were exceptional - tasty and well presented. The snorkeling and diving was incredible. There is a turtle reserve close by and we swam with green turtles for the first time, what a privilege!  We enjoyed a few excursions to Nosy Be, around Sakatia and to Iranja - the views from every angle are amazing.
The only downside was that the gentleman in the (Mango) bungalow next door to us, smoked during the night and early mornings and was quite unpleasant to be woken up with the smell of smoke.  We will definitely return and will recommend this lodge to friends for sure.

Idyllic Island holiday

My wife and I spent 10 days at Sakatia Lodge in April 2019 after our 10 days tour from Antananarivo to Diego Suarez. It was fantastic! An excellent  lodge and dive centre, really beautiful gardens full of geckos and chameleons, beautiful beach, the turtle sanctuary is right next door! The staff are super friendly and helpful. Delicious food! Definitely the place to relax!   Brilliant  diving and a really professional team. We did 15+ dives both during our stay, including my first fluorescence night dive which was amazing! Thank you very much for a beautiful time - Isabella, Masha, Lappies, Jose, Jodie and all your staff! Hope, we will be back soon! Highly recommended!

Awesome lodge, dive centre and diving!

We spent a week on  this beautiful island.  Excellent hospitality. Accommodation was very comfortable and clean.     With the sea at our doorstep and the stunning scenery all round, it was a most enjoyable holiday. Highly recommended. 

Sakatia Lodge :  Awesome place, wonderful hosts, relaxing, enjoyed by all.

Sakatia Lodge is situated away from the hustle and bustle of the larger Nosy Be island. Its a calm and serene setting with comfortable, large rooms. We traveled there during January 2019 so we experienced some rain on most days but nothing that made the stay unpleasant. Rain mostly occurred during the night and by morning the sun was shining with hot, humid temperatures continuing. We were a group of six people and stayed in the Tonga Soa Lodge which had three bedrooms with bathrooms in each. The deck was open air with a kitchen area with a fridge, urn for hot water and teas, coffees were provided. The only downside was that there were no air conditioning in the rooms which made it very difficult to get to sleep on evenings when it did not rain. There was, however, a fan provided, which helped. The deck overlooked the beach and it was literally a hop, skip and jump before you reached the warm ocean waters, that is when the tide was high. The food at dinner time was excellent! We had a freshly prepared three course meal every evening at the Lodge and breakfast was equally awesome. There were a few smaller local places to eat although we did not try them during our stay. The staff were friendly and always helpful and the rooms were cleaned everyday. It was very easy organizing day trips or tours from the Lodge as well. Although we did not dive there is a diving center at the Lodge and they had daily trips. One could snorkel from the beach in some of the rocky coastline areas but there was also house reef to snorkel. However we planned a day trip to Tanikely island instead and it was right up there with one of the best snorkeling experiences to date. All in all we had a relaxing time and pleasant stay at Sakatia Lodge.
