Can`t see what all the fuzz is about. I enjoyed my stay immensely. The rooms were great, service was good, and the price was modest. Breakfast was on the other hand ridiculous, but I guess there are limits to what you can expect from an understaffed and nearly empty hotel. I am anyway definitely going back.

The best (and only) hotel in town

First impressions were not good, with the reception desk unmanned and a notice giving a telephone number to dial for check-in.

When we got hold of somebody to allow us to check-in, the process involved selecting our choice of breakfast for the next day from a selection of photographs. We were also asked to pick the time for breakfast.

After negotiating this, the receptionist accompanied us up to the allocated floor in a small and jerky lift.  (There was a second lift, but it did not seem to work any more). At our floor, the room opened out into a lobby area, where a variety of gym equipment was placed (stored, meant for the use of visitors: who knows?). Our room was off this lobby, and was absolutely crammed full of furniture, much of it inappropriate (who needs a massive sideboard and 5 dining chairs in a hotel room?.

This multi-storey hotel has a main block with 2 wings. On the floor we were allocated, the 2 wings seemed all but abandoned, with doors broken, ceilings damaged and a general air of disuse. Only the handful of rooms off the lobby from the lifts seemed to be in use on this floor.

There are balconies, both in the room and off the lobby. However, they are dirty and unkempt. There is a sort of cladding on some of them which seems to be coming off, and you could be forgiven for being nervous even stepping out to the balcony.

In the bedroom, it became clear that there was physically nowhere to sit and watch the TV because of the placement of all the un-necessary furniture. It also turned out that it was all but impossible to get up one side of the bed without smashing your shins on a table at the foot of the bed. Cue furniture moving operations.....

The bed itself was pretty uncomfortable. Enough said.

Breakfast in the morning was a bit like reception upon arrival the previous day. No staff in sight, and no other guests either!  Eventually, someone appeared, and brought our pre-ordered and now cooling breakfast to us. Instant coffee was offered, with a kettle to make it. This breakfast area looked as though it had been recently refurbished and redecorated.

This was one of the most expensive hotels we encountered in Lithuania, possibly because there is so little alternative locally. But it is absolutely not worth the money.

ok, if you want a very old fashioned soviet style hotel, with a very warm staff, without a proper service though, but you don't want to drive to get to your room after a night clubbing in the disco downstairs, yes, go for it!

back in the USSR!

The hotel is being taken apart, makes it totally uncomfortable to stay or rest. The rooms are old and dusty, the food is ok, but you have better choices in the city. Not a chill and go place, rather an expensive hostel type

Decomissioned building

Last I heard, this hotel was leveld to the ground. Pity, because it was quite charming in its day. Now they are building a Lidl shop here in stead. I, for one, will miss it. Particularly the more pricy rooms, but also the strange breakfasts
