This apartment seemed to be the perfect choice for our company of three adult men. We had read other peoples opinions and we also checked that the specifications of equipment and service should be enough to satisfied our needs. We didn't expect luxury, only the basic things that can be expected from a normal functional apartment. We are experienced travelers from several countries of the world, used to live in very basic accommodations such as private apartments and small guest houses.

Despite the positive response from other guests, our experience turned out to be bad on many points:

1 On booking.com it was specified that it was free transfer service included. In reality, the management offered only pick up at the airport. 

2 During the transfer request, we did not get E-mail response. To get confirmation about the transfer we later texted the management on sms. The management then seemed unaware about our request on E-mail and we felt that we were criticized for asking for this service close to our arrival. But the fact was that we did mail the request to the contact mail provided, about three days before our arrival.

3 At the arrival at the airport we did not meet the management. We had to call and were instructed to go out to the parking lot. This procedure could have ruined the pick up if phones were out of order, which the management also told us happened to other guests.

4 Upon arrival to the apartment, we were asked to pay. We requested a receipt and was told that we could have it later. It was our mistake to accept paying without receiving receipt at once. It put us in a bad position when more complaints later was to occur. We did receive invoice by mail but by that time, our journey was already finished.

5 One double bed and one single bed had been prepared. We would prefer three single beds since the apartment offer several beds. We rearranged the beds ourselves but with the result that one person had to sleep without sheet. We could see sheets behind a locked cabinet but we had no access to the key as guests.

6 Equipment to the kitchen were hard to find. Kitchen was not well arranged as normal logic. Thus, the management tried to help us, by sending us sms-instructions. 

7 Later we conclude that the kitchen was anyhow bad equipped for our basic needs. It was a poor quality kitchen knife, we had to buy matches to ignite the gas oven. The saucepan provided was too little to cook pasta for three persons in a convenient way. The water boiled over the edges. No large bowl provided to put the pasta or or other foods or snacks. The grate on the oven had loose fit. The fridge was in a size like a hotel mini bar.

8 The television did not function. We bought new batteries to one of the remote controls and it did not respond. We managed to turn on one channel for about three minutes until it went into distortion. The management did at first reply on this problem by sms. When it didn't change, he stopped replying. For some television may not be important, but we have tradition of always watching television channels when arriving to a new place. When specified on booking.com, television also should be provided and working. If our technical abilities from our side may have been the reason, still the management should arrange it to work. Thus, this is probably not the case since we are used to handle digital boxes, cables and remote controls in other scenarios with success.

9 Toilet paper rolls provided for three nights and three persons were two. Kitchen paper towels were none.

10 Regarding the apartment we can underline several other things. The 120 square meters specified is an exaggeration. When rooftop is below normal height, it is not conventional to measure the floor equal to the total area. Such was the case with improvised “second floor” - some sort of rebuild garret. Thus, we can agree the the apartment was big enough for us, still it is wrong measured by the specifications. The terrace was in bad condition with holes in the floor and a broken table. The roof windows was leaking water during rain. This is why various pots are putted on the floor. 

11 One sweater found under the sofa-bed might illustrate the level of cleaning of the apartment.

12 One provided information brochure made by the apartments owner/management inform you about the house. But when reading this there is a part also telling you about the neighbors on a personal level, in an offensive and unethical manner. Quote: “The inhabitants of the first floor are authentic persons from Soviet era, most of them living here in decades. If you think they are unhappy about something – that is probably not true, they just had a hard life.”

13 We made complaints directly to booking.com during our stay. The booking.com agents told us that they were contacting the management at two times at least but without any response from them.

On the summary we can say that the apartment is in generally poor condition. Leaking water can create mold and sickness for guests and other neighbors in the long term. The equipment provided seems a bit like decorations. When you want to use the kitchen as a normal kitchen you will have problems with even making a simple dinner.

On the good side: The apartment have potential and looks quite nice from a distance when not paying too much attention on the details. Location is also good. The price is okay in regard to the specifications on booking.com. Thus this specifications is only in theory and not in reality. But for guests who primarily sleep, drink beer and go to restaurants outside, the apartment may work good anyway.

As a budget traveler, a small and clean guest room in another address in Kaunas would be a much better option.
