Sengtiane Hotel

We stayed here for one night. 1 room x2 people, as a stop-over in between bus arrival and next morning flight. The arrival: We arrived about 11pm at the VT bus station, coming from Luang Prebang with the sleeping bus. Actually we had a 27 Hr. ride behind us (normally would take 9-10 hours); first we had the bus break down… (11 hours lost: they unscrewed the air compression tank and brought it to the next village to weld it the next morning); then we drove into a traffic jam because of landslide ahead (7 hrs lost), missing our Tubing day in Van Vien. Because not stayed in Van Vien, we not made the reservation yet for the hotel. Arriving at the VT bus station, we asked around with the tucktuck drivers for “airport-hotel”. The Bus station Tucktuck drivers: They are a real organized “mafia-scam” here in Vientiane: they keep one price about Euro 2 p.p./USD 2,50 p.p. for one way-short trip to City-center. One person was very busy, keeping all driver from going below the Euro 2 p.p. So on a big Tucktuck car with 10 persons they charge total Euro 20…. A Real goldmine for them, where normally is Euro 3 for tuctuck trip in rest of Laos; no matter how much people.). Actually the tucktuck drivers choice became our hotel. The Hotel: This is a good value for money hotel. 19 USD/night/room including breakfast and internet. The hotel staff was very friendly; also they arranged for free hotel airport transportation the next morning. I could not explore dinner possibilities in or in close neighborhood of the hotel. Also do not know if the location of the hotel is convenient for more then 1 night stay (+ city activities). Everything was good about this hotel except for the breakfast choice (see photo for menu): 1. porridge rice (shrimp or pork). 2. Coffee. 3. Orange juice (the chemical one). For western people this is actually a “room rate without breakfast”, if you don’t like rice porridge. Never the less, I would still highly recommend this hotel. Will certainly stay here next time again. The hotel comes with: - Friendly staff - Acceptable sleeping quality. - Spacey room. - Air conditioning. - Good adjustable electric shower. - Free internet - TV (did not even check/watch…only….. sleep). - Breakfast, see above… only rice porridge and coffee/juice (but what you to expect for USD 19). - Not sure, but think….No elevator. I did not check for nearby dining possibilities; but probably you can find in close distance (maybe even hotel themselves ).
