Would have loved to visit but unfortunately we are seemingly not welcome. I enquired into pricing on their facebook page and the owner blocked me rather than give prices. Rather an odd way to react, perhaps my money is not good enough or we dont fit some sort of secret criteria?

We spent three nights in Merry Crab and had a fantastic time. We were welcomed by big smiles from all of the staff, and felt at home right away. Our room, the Palm Deck, was spacious, nicely decorated, comfortable and offered views of the pool, garden and part of the Creek. We loved the bed, which was one of best we had on our vacation. Merry Crab is well known for their food (vegetarian and sea food), and we soon found out why. Every meal prepared by Chef Johnson was delicious. Don’t miss out on the fish from the barbecue! Merry Crab’s location was perfect for us. They are well away from the big hotels in Watamu (big plus!!) and have a unique location right at Mida Creek that can’t be beaten. Watamu town is at the other side of the creek, but it’s easy to get there by boat and tuktuk (boat transfers not included, we only found out about the cost at check-out). Merry Crab is a great place to relax; there is plenty of space and they have a nice pool. At the same time it is the perfect starting point to explore the Creek, for example by kayak (which we could not organize through Merry Crab unfortunately). Conclusion: unless you care about luxury, forget about all the hotels in Watamu and stay here. Our only suggestion to the owner would be to upgrade the breakfast (2 toast, butter, jam and coffee/tea) which is included in the room rate. It was insufficient and does not represent good value for the price paid. Having to pay extra for eggs, some fruit and a glass of juice was the only disappointment in an otherwise great stay.

Must be one of the best places in Watamu

Returned to the Merry Crab earlier this month to cross the creek on our epic bike ride. Gria met us with big smiles as usual. She even apologised for the tide being so far out, meaning we had to carry our bikes to the boat, how lovely is that.

Renewing Friendship

My partner and I stayed here for three nights in 2018. We were looking for some place affordable that was seaside and quiet. Merry Crab exceeded our expectations. The place is very quiet and has a great private beach, which was nice for swimming when the tide was right. You also can swim in their salt water pool - very well maintained. The food was unique and delicious and the portion sizes filling; we sampled some local seafood and enjoyed a couple satisfying vegetarian meals. We took the boat out and went snorkeling; we felt privileged to have the boat all to ourselves while the other companies boats we large and crowded with tourists. Overall the owners and staff were very friendly, accommodating and are willing to help organize whatever kind of trip you want. From quiet and private, to active and packed with activities, they can cater to what you want. Would love to come back and stay here again. I would recommend anyone looking for a unique and more relaxed spot by the water, away from the busy hotels (but close enough to the amenities), to look no further. A little gem of a place.

Peaceful, relaxing, clean and friendly

Like the other reviews say, this is a really incredible and relaxing place, perfect location with a private beach on Mida Creek and calm waters for swimming. A welcome relief from the hassle of beach boys in Watamu beach! There is loads of wildlife to see from the beach, especially when the tide goes out, and from the treehouse next to the restaurant. 

The room we had was huge, well decorated with a huge bed and a great bathroom. We even had a sofa overlooking the hotel grounds, beach and creek, an amazing view to wake up to everyday! 

I would advise you to try the seafood prepared by Jonhson , the lobster we had was really tasty! Other dishes were all vegetarian but very good, Johnson the chef is a talented man! 

The owners (Greer and Mike) were very accommodating and kind, and always on hand for any questions. 

Lots of other nice touches including hammocks, a pool with water from the creek, good Wi-Fi, games and dart board and a playful dog, Zampa! Merry Crab Cove is gorgeous.

We would definitely come here again but would stay longer next time!

This place is amazing

Wanted to cycle from Mnarani to the Watamu with out going on the Mombasa highway. This ment crossing Mida Creek. Got to Merry Crab and Greer met us with big smiles, even though she thought we were mad cycling that distance. She then got her guy to boat us across the creek, saving us a 17 mile detour.
