We were Served us stale prawns and then when we complained and asked for another meal replacement the owner still insisted to be paid while calling us difficult clients. Even instructed his staff not to serve us anything else. Note we had paid in advance for three nights 

Very unfriendly

I had a wonderful stay at Stopover during a long Easter weekend. I was warmly welcomed by Hamid, the owner and given an upgrade to the penthouse floor for no extra charge. The room rate was already better than nearby hotels. I was gifred with the most amazing views and the room was clean and had all the basics I needed. Breakfasts were well cooked and plentiful and the staff attentive. I would happily stay here again.

Easter Weekend 2022

We stayed a week & could have stayed another. The Stopover Boys provide excellent service with the biggest warmest smiles 😀. We tried several rooms & they were all very comfortable. You must stay in the rooms with ocean views, which most are, and enjoy spending hours watching the life of the fisherman & locals. Breakfast is very fresh & tasty & the boys do a great job of cooking up your bootie if you have been out fishing 🎣 with Elias. Loved our stay & hope to go back 🌴 Thank you again to all the crew at Stopover 🙏

Great Little Guesthouse

We have just returned from this wonderful break.
Airport transfer was arranged on our behalf by Stopover guest house, Shela.  On arrival, our bags were carried and the jetty is just a 200m easy walk.  (A place with no vehicles whatsoever, just boats and donkeys).  The boat transfer was maybe 30-40 mins, but so interesting.  (Cost 1000 KES boat).  We were taken directly to the guesthouse front and met by welcoming staff.
Our room was located on the 2nd floor, with a massive balcony directly overlooking the sea, beach, waterfront.  Spectacular! Bingo!  Outside the room, a double day bed was located under a shade terrace together with a table and two lounger chairs.  The balcony also extended backwards and around the side of the room itself.  The room, was very spacious with 2 very large beds equipped with mosquito nets, and an amazing mattress.  Adequate wardrobe and wall shelving was great. There was also a table and two chairs.  The bathroom, was a huge wet room.  The whole accomodation was very clean and I could not ask for anything else.  Brilliant!
On the first floor, there is a kitchen and I would imagine you could prepare your own food if you wanted.  However, most importantly there is a huge American Type fridge freezer which was empty throughout our visit.  There was no objection to using it for beers, wines or anything else.  Infact the staff suggested it and even bought beers on our behalf.  They really did go 'over and beyond' to make it enjoyable.
It was Ramadam throughout our stay.  We were able to eat in the restaurant between 1830 and 2130 hours daily.  Breakfast was served on our balcony.
The food was reasonable.  The breakfast was adequate especially bearing in mind it had been included in the room rate.  A choice from three sections (1.  Tea/coffee etc 2. Fresh fruit juices and 3. toast with eggs in varieties, pancakes in varieties or toast with jams)
The evening cuisine was preordered for ease (Theirs I think). We stayed 3 nights and food was most acceptable with the exception of our last night.  Maybe a chef issue, but one dish was returned, and finally replaced to our satisfaction.  It was a bit disjointed but not a problem really.  
Payments were never chased.  It was all so laid back.  I like to settle immediately so I found myself forcing them to accept payment.
Our departure date was straightforward and flowed perfectly.  The staff remainined welcoming throughout and the farewell was warm.
I would describe the venue as relaxed and 'a forced rest' was welcoming.
We had two day trips within our visit.  The first invloved a short boat trip (1000KES return boat) to Manda Island located directly opposite (Maybe 5/10 Mins) We spend the entire day at the 5* Majlis Hotel and were permitted to use all the facilities free of charge
Providing we ate lunch and purchased drinks.  The food was fabulous and also the experience of it all.  The second day was a guided tour of Lamu Town - Boat return 1000Kes and guide fess 1500 KES (Well worth a guide).  As it was Ramadam, most hotels and eating places were closed.  The guide took us to Lamu House restaurant directly on the front.  It had amazing reviews apparently.  It was clean and inviting except for the waitress.  I am not sure what her problem was but she was dreadful.  I believe she was racist maybe, but she sure did not like us.  We were the only people into restaurant and due to her behaviour against us, I can't say it was nice.  The Guide felt the atmosphere too and stated he would report it.
The people of Lamu are so incredibly friendly and welcoming. (Except the Lamu House Restaurant waitress LOL) It's a safe place and the guide told us there is no crime, just drinking and smoking against the custom maybe.

Fantastic break, can't imagine finding any better.

Easy to get to from the jetty if you are flying into Lamu via Manda Island.  Welcoming staff.  This guest house is charming, simple and very convenient for visitors to Shella.  Situated on the sea front with views of Manda Island, excellent sun rises and the goings-on along the beach where fishermen and village life happens.  
Rooms are well appointed, beds are comfortable. Mosquito nets provided.   Good water pressure.  Lovely porches on each floor overlooking the sea front.  Kitchen available.  Kitchen needs a few more pots and pans but is adequate for simple meal preparation.  
Staff welcoming and helpful.
We woke up early, went for walks and swimming on the beautiful beach.  Returned to the guest house for brunch in the restaurant on the first floor of the guest house. Eggs, toast, fresh juice drinks, tea and coffee.  Then we tended to hang out on the porch - reading and resting until the heat of the day had subsided.  One morning we went deep sea fishing - left at 5 am.  Didn't catch anything that day but it was fun nevertheless.  Sunset sailing in ancient dhows is one of life's real treats.  One late afternoon we went to see sea turtles hatch and make their way to the Indian Ocean; on another evening we wandered around the village of Shella, shopping and nosing about; and on another late afternoon we climbed up the sand dunes and walked back along the beach.
There are several restaurants serving swahili suppers.  Delicious - samosas, coconut rice, fish curry, chicken, vegetable dishes served with lovely fresh juices.
