I have been to Emboo twice now, and am absolutely impressed with everything about this place. Emboo is much more than a safari camp. Through modelling a deep commitment to exploring new ways to be fully sustainable, and by sharing the benefits of that, guests leave inspired and motivated. Electric safari vehicles are game changing (literally!). I will never consider anything else after experiencing the difference. I wouldn't have realized how important the style of vehicle is, both to your experience and to the health of the animals, when you choose a safari company. As well, their partnership with the Masai community is genuine and mutual, and the guides and staff at Emboo are amazing. 
I will be back!

The best kept secret in the Mara. Emboo is by far the best safari camp I've ever been to. It is a quite simply notch above the rest. THE ELECTRIC VEHICLES ARE A GAME CHANGER, you can without a doubt get closer to game. We had a leopard encounter that was absolutely superb, and I credit it to the quietness of the vehicles. The staff are spectacular, first class facilities, and the food is truly delightful. 100/100 and I will be back!

I don't normally write reviews, but as I wait for my flight out of Nairobi, its one of the first things on my todo list. 

Emboo is incredible.  The scene and setting, the amazing food, and the privileged location in the middle of the park are just the start.  The utterly wonderful staff truly make it something special. Low key and relaxed, you feel right at home, but receive super luxury service at every turn.  The service feels very personal in an utterly authentic way - you feel at home, welcome, and eager to return. 

The game drives were amazing.  Early morning viewings before breakfast, sunset sundowners... when we weren't enjoying the animals the vast African skies kept us in awe.  Our guide - Nas - is second to none - able to spot a cheetah hiding in a bush from miles away, with deep and interesting knowledge about everything in the bush. 

Our drives are in an electric vehicle.  When a regular diesel vehicle from another camp pulls off with a loud roar and spitting fumes into the environment, you can't help feeling a little annoyed that the others haven't converted yet.  The EV means you quietly manoeuvre around without disturbing the wildlife - and can hear nature far better. 

Lastly - the camp's sustainability ethos is fantastic. This is no window dressing - its so cool to see how their entire operation is solar based, and their vertical farming with no waste or chemicals anywhere powers the delicious (and huge!) meals every day. 

Accommodation and massages and similar are all top standard like you would expect in this price range. 

If you are in any doubt about which camp to choose, this is the one.

At Emboo the staff makes you feel like you are home. We felt so cared for and loved every minute of being at the camp, especially by Edna. Also, the entire group agreed that it was the best food we had the entire time in Kenya. And I can't forget about our amazing game driver, Nas. She was so knowledgable super patient and great with our kids, 6, 8 and 10, and made the whole experience so relaxed and fun. We are so thankful for Emboo and all that they do for the Masai Mara.

Probably the only truly sustainable safari camp in the Mara.  It was exciting to stay at a property trying to make a change, I was happy to support them.   You might not immediately recognize their uniqueness because you will enjoy all the amenities of the most luxurious camps.  Plenty of light and hot water in the tents and gourmet food whether at the lodge or in the field.  Everyone at the camp is very friendly and helpful. 
An interesting option is to have the canvas sides of the tent rolled up so you feel immersed the African bush with all the smells and sounds.  I would encourage anyone planning a Maasai Mara safari trip to include Emboo in your plans, you will not be disappointed while supporting hopefully a growing movement.

Emboo River Camp provided us with an exceptional Maasai Mara experience! The introduction of the electric vehicle was a game-changing addition, allowing us to enjoy quiet safaris with minimal disruption to the wildlife. The food was not only delicious but also healthy, and the entire staff exhibited a remarkable warmth and accommodating nature. Our tent boasted a stunning view overlooking the river, complete with hippos swimming and roaming nearby. Our experienced and professional driver and guide, Robert, made our adventure even more memorable, and we were treated to one of the most breathtaking sunrises we've ever witnessed.

I was part of a group of 13 and we had a wonderful time here.  We were treated like family.  The camp is run in a very environmentally friendly way.  The tents were wonderful.  Very comfortable and luxurious, yet the animals were so close by.   The staff were very friendly.  They even organised a "cocktails at sunset out on the savanah".  I highly recommend Emboo River camp.  

Kenya has been my home for 15 years and honestly Emboo River delivered my best safari experience yet and I’ll absolutely be going back and would highly recommend.

I had family visiting from UK so there were six of us in total - my brother, his wife and their kids 10 and 15, plus my 86 year old Mum - so a very mixed group with different needs.

For my brother and his family it was their first safari (and visit to Kenya), while Mum has been on safari with me several times before, but hadn’t been to visit for a few years.

I specifically wanted to take them Emboo because I’d heard about their innovative ‘off-grid’/eco-friendly set up and wanted to experience it for myself, and I was pretty certain that the family would enjoy it too - they did.

The Camp itself was just the right size and it feels like the independent boutique operation it is - I’d class it as ‘barefoot luxury’ rather than ‘shiny shiny’, if that makes any sense! And the level of thought/attention to detail that’s gone into the Camp and its operation cannot be under-stated - there’s lots of eco-tourism ‘talk’ right now, but not everyone is truly walking it: the team at Emboo absolutely are.

The location along the Emboo River is very peaceful. And the team are exceptional - both the guides (in electric vehicles) and the hospitality staff back at Camp.
 
I’m conscious that some may be put off by the sound of a principally plant-based menu (I understand there are options for dedicated omnivores) however the food is so good you forget you’re not actually eating meat - the youngest in our party who at 10 can be hard to please (!), kept piping up that “I don’t normally like ‘xx’ but this is great…” and Layler who looked after us at meal times. managed to turn this into a great game for us all.

Also, because there were six of us, we ate ‘family style’ with food served in big bowls in the middle of the table so we could help ourselves, which in itself created a more relaxed dining experience than having everything plated up and served individually - a nice touch.

And of course last but not least the game drives were excellent and we saw a lot, including a lion ‘kill’ which was a first for all of us including me.

We stayed three nights, and I’m sure you could make two nights work but three for us was ideal and you could easily stay longer and take more time to relax in Camp and watch the world go by.

While there, there was another family, a couple and a solo traveller, so they cater for everyone. (Oh and when you go if you’re passing through Nairobi make sure you make time to visit the Opportunity Factory ;)

We were absolutely impressed with everything about this place.
Emboo is much more than a safari camp. Through their deep commitment to exploring new ways to be fully sustainable, and to share that knowledge with others is inspiring. Not only that, but  and social  are making a social and  impact in so many ways that will ripple out to the Maasai community, Kenya and the world.
I truly hope to be back again and become part of the Emboo journey in some way! Until next time!

The people, the food, the game drives, the beautiful location, the atmosphere.. (i can keep going) were absolutely wonderful.

We have 0 bad remarks and would return for sure. 

As a meat-lover I was astonished by the fact that I could eat vegetarian platters for 4 days straight without even noticing the absence of meat. 

The close connection with the local community, the empowerment of women, the self-sustainability.

EV was a game changer!

Emboo is a beautiful lodge and the eco work they do is wonderful. drivers v good and experienced. Lovely tents, so peaceful. Great view of the river. Total support for their environmentalism and water strategy. Staff v nice. Tree planting etc is fab. 
However, the owner’s father, staying from Europe, cannot leave lone younger women alone.  You can’t sit peacefully to look at the view or the fire in the evening. A lot of old fashioned opinions, it was very uncomfortable hearing these being aired with Kenyan staff nearby.
