This place is magical! Just got back and this place overlooking the Mara crossing or most would say Hippo crossing has the best view! 

Imagine dining over a waterfall river filled with hippos all day and night! Oh and giraffes taking a stroll in the background. 

You are walked back to your huge tent at night by a Maasai warrior tribesman who are simply bad ass and stand between you and a wondering animal! We did not come across that thankfully but at night they stand guard and there when needed.

The staff are top notch from Freddie the bartender to Gordon your room Stewart and Caroline the best massage ever!! 

I would highly recommend your stay here, it's right in the heart of the safari with animals surrounding you. It's simply spectacular with amazing food too!

This was our first camp out of about 5 on our Kenya tour and it was by far the best! The location was incredible, having a drink on the deck watching the hippos play and catching the sunset. Grab a Mojito, by far the best one I've tasted.
Our room was simply adorable. The food was delicious, and they had good variety.
Our waiter Daniel looked after us the whole time and he was amazing!!!! The best waiter I've ever had. He was incredibly attentive and was always interested in our day and what animals we saw. He was always smiling and went above and beyond to make sure I was taken care of with my dietary requirements.
The camp itself was well taken care of and all the staff were incredibly helpful. This camp needs to be on your list. We would have stayed here longer if we knew how amazing it was.

Location along the river  is mind blowing right in the heart of Mara. The tents are incredible. I could hear hippos all night. The Maasai are always guarding you for safety. Staff is extremely courteous. A big thank you to Joshua for showing me the best of Maasai Mara. He cruised through unique spots to show me all action this place has to offer. The wildlife spotting was incredible. Overall, highly recommend this place.

The location of this camp cannot be beat. And while I thought upon booking it would feel quite rustic, it turned out to have absolutely everything we needed including WiFi, charging, hot showers and good food. Manager Gordon runs a tight ship and staff were plentiful and helpful - they even arranged a special birthday cake and celebration for one of our crew. But back to the location...I can't overemphasize how special it is to stay in a place that overlooks a hippo pool. We were consistently transfixed by the views of all the action below, with plenty of moms and baby hippos at play and rest, along with some herons, storks and crocs. And as soon as you leave the camp you are right in the center of the action in the Mara, with lion hunts nearby. The food was good, especially the hand-made naan with chilies and cheese, which was our favorite. There's nothing like this place!

This place is fantastic. It has stunning views over the Mara river, with hippos and crocodiles to be seen as you enjoy a sundowner on the deck. The tents are luxurious, the staff kind and helpful, and the food is very good. We had hippos and other wildlife around our tent at night. Unforgettable.

I actually spent 5 nights in September 2022 at the Mara Crossings Camp. I’m a well travelled, senior, solo female Canadian traveller who has stayed at many safari camps over the years and Mara Crossings Camp is the BEST!!! I plan on visiting again in 2025 or 2026. Five star staff: friendly, smiling, do anything for you. My tent #4 (I think) was fabulous. Excellent hot water shower, comfy  bed, toasty warm with a hot water bottle each night. My morning wake up calls came with hot chocolate (I don’t drink coffee)  and cookies. My vegetarian meals were delicious! As I dined by the river I watched  hippo’s while giraffe’s watched me. As a serious hobby photographer my guide was 100% accommodating. We spent 6 hours at a time zipping around the reserve so I could see every animal (everything but  rhino’s) and get the best photo’s and have the most amazing experience. Fabulous lunch breaks on scenic hills. Very ‘Out of Africa’. Best safari’s EVER! I always felt safe and it was obvious they appreciate all their guests. All my transportation needs were met even when changes had to be made. To the staff, I’m so sorry it has taken me so long to give you this review. I WILL SEE YOU AGAIN!!! Diane B.

What began as a long-shot discussion amongst family to someday go on an African Safari turned rapidly into reality when things evolved, and tickets were purchased.  All of a sudden, a group of 6 of us were going ~ for real !!  For 13 days !!  Flying into Kenya, overland to Tanzania and back to Kenya for our return flights home.  All reservations for travel and stay in Kenya and Tanzania were arranged as an all-inclusive package by ASDL, our tour operator…  all we had to do was get our visas, air tickets and the essential vaccinations.

Mara Crossing Camp in Kenya  - our first stop on the safari - comprises mostly of large, magnificent and somewhat Hollywood-ish tented “guestrooms” laid out along the Northern banks of the Talek River in the Masai Mara National Reserve.  The public facilities are set up in large tents, pavilions and seating areas in a central location and guestroom tents scattered along the riverbank on both sides of this public area.  

The bar, dining tent and central seating pavilion are grouped together right by the edge of a sheer drop of some 15 feet to the riverbank, and the guestrooms are spread out to the west, a bit further away from the edge.  There is a large dining tent for formal dining (or in inclement weather) where we were also served an a-la-carte dinner, with actual menus for individualized food selections !!  ~ We had to marvel at that luxury in the jungles of Africa, and did not see that repeated at any of our five other stays.  And outside this tented room meals are served from buffet tables arranged by the riverbank, bearing a large selection of foods, fresh vegetables and delicious cut fruit.  Most amazingly:  the set-up included a wood-fired tandoor making fresh, absolutely tender naans !!  …where the heck in the jungles of ANY continent would one find that ?  Our group’s outside dining and breakfast table was set up under a tree close to the activity in the water, where we could watch the birds, hippos and crocodiles thrash it out over a zebra carcass, or a pair of huge male hippos grunt, roar and grumble out their claim over the group of females in the water.

The river can be a raging torrent in the rainy season that comes right up to the edge of the camp, or in the dry season, flows by over a series of low, rocky falls and through deceptively calm shallows.  It is populated by hippos, crocodiles, elephants and other thingies concealed in the calm shallows just under the surface, waiting for an unsuspecting meal to come by ~ some of which choose to come up and roam around the camp after everyone goes to bed.  Visitors are advised (at all these safari camps) to NOT wander about outside the tents after dark, even within the property, as there are no fences.  And one doesn’t want to be dragged around the river by a crocodile, like the unfortunate floating zebra of our first day there, or charged by an angry elephant or hippo looking to protect his harem.  One brave Masai gentleman is assigned to keep watch outside the guestroom tents all night as a lookout for animals that go bump in the dark, and provides escort for any guests who may be foolish enough to wish to leave their tents for any reason ~ though we were all admonished not to do so.

The beds are huge, and very comfortable.  Lots of white sheets, pillows and blankets.. and because the Mara can be cold at night, they provide hot-water bottles in the beds when they prepare the rooms for the night... quite a delightful touch that though not really required all night in summer, brought back wonderful childhood memories from Burma and India.  The tents have en-suite bath and changing-room areas behind the main bed space, and some have a second bedroom attached for a third guest.  All very well enclosed and sealed to keep out the local lifeforms.

The staff at Mara are exceptional ~ very pleasant, friendly and accommodating with every request…. and to come back with a smile and say “Yes, it’s done.” ~ Thank you, Andrew !  We were also allowed to bring our own wine in and pay a small corkage fee for it to be served at our table with dinner.  And for those do not plan to return to base midday, they were happy to provide individual (!!) choices of lunch sandwiches to take along on our forays into the wilds... A picnic lunch in the wild (under the watchful eye of the guide) in the deafening silence that settles in as the vehicle motor is shut off, can be quite delightful …and risky.  A bit basic and cold food, but something ! ~ to chew on, while (hopefully) watching the local denizens of the wilds chew on their (newly) dead lunchmeats.  

On our last evening here, our guide was able to arrange for a picnic sundowner dinner at a riverside some miles from camp, but we got cancelled as we arrived there by a sudden, wandering downpour that had different ideas.  Good try, though…  5 stars for effort and willingness to improve the experience.

All in all.. ENTIRELY worth the trip.  Thank you, gentlemen.

Mara Crossing Camp is one of the best places I have stayed in, and I have stayed in many hotels in my travels. The location is unbelievable, right on the Mara River. We ate breakfast while watching the hippos in the river. Sunsets were beautiful.  The tent was spacious. clean, had hot showers, and good toilets. All the meals were delicious. All the staff at Mara Crossing Camp were the best. I wish I remembered everyones name to special mention. The only name I can recall is Justus the bartender. Everyone there was pleasant, helpful, and friendly. Thank you Mara Crossing Camp for an outstanding stay!

I checked into Mara Crossing Camp with basic expectations, believe me this camp surpassed all my expectations and beyond. This is indeed a spectacular camp hidden in the bush and emerging on the banks of Mara river with Hippos and Crocs seen regularly from a distance. The location is amazing and closer to many migration points, the game around the camp is fantastic.

The Tents are beautiful giving you the rustic feeling in the midst of nature. The Food is super tasty catering to all your needs and tastes.

Gordon the Camp manager is a wonderful and humble person who is always there to help you. The support staff Vincent, Daniel, Justice, ever similing Freddy, Richard and all exceptionally good, they extended us the best of the hospitality. 

I highly recommend this camp. Must stay and experience it.

Africa !!!  The dark continent ~ of Tarzan, Phantom, The Jungle Book, legends, dreams, wildlife, imaginations run amuck.

Fantastic Stay!

The Hidden Gem !!

I was already looking forward to our stay at mara crossing after reviewing the pictures online and going by my travel agents recommendation. I was very sure that i did not want to stay at a "hotel" at Masai mara...

And oh boy... Am i grateful! Nothing had prepared us for this experience. I have stayed in a five star tent in India before so i wanted to do that once again. What mara crossing was offering was more than just the tent.

The place lifted our mood as soon as we entered this property hidden away between the low shrub like trees. Just as we were getting tired from our drive and wondering when we will finally reach. We couldn't wait to alight and just lie back and relax.

But when we finally did... We felt no urgency to get into our tents. The property was so cosy and welcoming, we got lost in talking to the welcoming staff. The bartender was waiting to serve us the welcome drink "dawa" and with that in hand, we proceeded to the lounge for our very easy check-in. No complicated process.

While we looked upon the river, running right along the property where we would be enjoying a sit down 4 course meal... We were greeted by bathing hippos and sulking crocodiles and the ever so soft sound of the water rushing to greet us. What was wonderful is that it was all open to the sky, limitless like the exhuberance we were feeling!

We were then escorted to our tents by the Masai staff. It added to the true Masai experience! The tent was very elegantly decorated. The bed, the lamps, dressing, bath and changing room too! We were so happy for this space that would be ours for the next three nights. Not knowing that it wouldn't be enough!



A wild exotic camp!

This camp was beyond phenomenal. The staff, the accommodations, the food- were all top notch! We loved the true camp experience on our safari and would love to go back! The best vacation EVER! Our safari guide was exceptional. Our tent was amazing- warm during the day but so cool and crisp out in the evenings. The meals were delicious and a wonderful variety. We highly recommend the Dawa cocktail as well. We felt very welcomed and appreciated. We would definitely stay here again!
