Goshima Ryokan

This was our first time to stay in a Ryokan and after this experience I am sure won't be our last. We were met by Taka-san as we completed the 5 minute walk from the station. We were a little apprehensive as our visit was to watch the RWC games in Oita and were unsure if the local train service would be adequate. We had no need to worry as Taka explained the workings of the Ryokan to us and then advised he had booked us on the free shuttle bus from Usuki to Oita Stadium. Everything worked perfectly. Nothing was too much trouble for Taka and his family to ensure that we had a wonderful stay. For those that have never tried this type of accommodation before it does involve shared bathroom facilities, but that was never an issue. Additionally, use of futons rather than beds. If you have nt got an issue with that then you will receive wonderful Japanese hospitality in traditional surroundings. Would highly recommend something different from the rather cramped Japanese hotel rooms.
