Beautiful location on the coast. An authentic ryokan onsen experience with comfortable futons. Hostess and staff gracious. Meals extensive. We highly recommend.

Convenient location if you have a car, yet quiet surroundings. Interesting in-house dining experience (DIY tempura). Nice and clean room with seaview.

Stayed here for 2 nights to visit the gorgeous Shiretoko national park and nearby nature trails. This family-run hotel is nestled along the side of the road, with a spectacular view of the sea. I stayed in the quadruple room which was extremely spacious... even more so for Japanese standards! There is also a lounge area with complimentary tea, coffee and water. 

The breakfast and dinner included with the stay were superb as well. The meals are served in the typical Ryokan style: rice, a variety of dishes and something interesting to tie it all together! The menu changes daily but it typically looks like: day 1: DIY tempura + freshly grilled fish, day 2: steamed pork shabu shabu. However, do note that the ingredients are seasonal so they may vary depending on which month you visit. 

There are two onsens, a public one and a private one. I do believe that the private one requires a booking to be made while at the hotel. The onsen is quaint and simple, for a nice shower and wind down after a long day of adventure. I cannot recommend this place enough, definitely check out this place if you have the chance!

This hotel was amazing! It exceeded all expectations. We arrived around 5:30pm and had dinner prepared for us at 6pm, which was a delicious mix of fresh sashimi and tempura. We were then able to book the private outdoor onsen which was truly wonderful and luxurious under the stars. Our hosts were warm, friendly and professional and clearly passionate about delivering an exceptional stay for all their guests. The location itself was spectacular! The hotel looked out onto the ocean and we had an incredible view from our room. I cannot rate this hotel high enough, 10/10 I will definitely be staying here again!

Our Japanese style room was clean, spacious, and quiet. It had a nice ocean view. Breakfast and half board were delicious, very eye-pleasing. the free private onsen (for this onsen, you need to sign up in advance) and free public onsen were great. The host/staff were friendly and helpful. They helped  us book sightseeing boat cruise and sightseeing bus tour. We loved our stay here so much that we were sad to leave after 3 days.

A very clean, quiet and safe place. The staffs are very efficient and courteous. Absolute value for money.

Excellent family run ryokan/hotel. For non Japanese speakers this presents more of a challenge overcome by going to the mega hotel down the road. Otherwise the onsen is enough and the traditional Japanese meal is off the charts.

You can enjoy the sunset through the window in the room. Friendly and helpful staff I have met.

Beautiful boutique hotel in Shiretoko

We stayed at Kifu Club when we visited Shiretoko National Park, and were pretty glad that we chose it among the half-dozen of accommodation options in Utoro.

The hotel staff couldn't be more helpful. They helped us with check-in, grabbed *all* of our bags to our room before we had a chance to say no, showed us around the facilities and offered introductions to different dishes at dinner and breakfast.

The room was pretty much of what you'd expect in a Japanese ryokan - they convert the sitting area to the sleeping area while you are having dinner. The room spotlessly clean and felt very cozy. We did experience problem with the hot water (varying from scolding hot to freezing cold liberally), and the hotel seems to stop the heat at around 10pm and the room was very cold at night.

There was an in-door public onsen and two outdoor private onsens. The open-air onsens are about 20m from the main building and the changing room was open-air as well, so make sure to put on the puffer coat and snow boots (all provided by the hotel) in the winter.

Both dinner and breakfast were delicious, and had plenty of local or home-made dishes. Making tempura ourselves was a great experience.

If not for the water temperature and the heating issue, this stay would have been perfect. Regardless, I will stay here again next time I visit Shiretoko.

Cozy B&B with friendly staff

I stayed in the Hotel Kifu Club Shiretoko for two nights. The dinner sets served in the tatami dining room were great, and the rooms were typical for a Japanese ryokan: tatami mats and futons with A/C+heater combination for cold or hot weather. The view out the window faced the main road with the sea just beyond. The location itself is just outside the main city, but guests will want to have a car to enjoy the sights like Shiretoko Five Lakes, Kamuiwakka Valley, and Oshinkoshin Falls, which are a short drive from the ryokan. The public and private baths were quite nice. The per night price was high, but not usually so when compared to other similar places in Shiretoko, Japan.

This family run elegant hotel is the best, the staff and owners are friendly and warm-hearted, the hotel decoration is unique and elegant, very clean, the food is delicious and fresh. The location is about 10-15 minutes from the bus terminal but they can pick you up for free. All rooms are facing the ocean. The shampoo and body wash is Pola brand. My only tiny complaint is the Onsen water temperature is a bit high that you need to slowly get into the water. I will come back if I visit Shiretoko otoro next time. Btw, there are staffs who can speak English and chinese.

High quality elegant and warm-hearting hotel.

On a snowy March afternoon we arrived at our accommodation. Modern but traditional at the same time.

Disappointed we didn't get to try the open air hot water baths but the meals were fantastic. Breakfast of seafood,cold spring roll, salted salmon, yoghurt, apple juice, tea.  

Staff have excellent English esp compared to my Japanese - helpful, welcoming smiling always wanting to help.

Very comfortable futons, coffee available for those needing a caffeine hit at front reception.

Would highly recommend. Loved our night's stay here.

Breathtaking scenery at your front door

Just east of Utoro on the road to the Shiroteko National Park, the small, modern Kifu Club offers wa-shitsu (traditional) rooms, sea views and excellent dinners. 

Complimentary yukata, onsen and ample parking. (Shiroteko is best explored by car).

Very good value and more atmospheric than the modern high rise hotels on the bluff above the town.

As always in Japan, polite and welcoming service.

Quiet Shoreline Location

Hotel Kifu Club has a very homely feel. The staff members were very attentive and friendly. My wife and I stayed for 2 nights and each dinner and breakfast was different from the previous day, and the food was truly local and delicious. The room had a fantastic view of the sea! To top it all off, the private onsen is a must-try, but make sure you book early because there are only 2 private onsen.

Superb Accommodation in Shiretoko

Firstly let's get the personal recommendation out of the way, if I can come back to shiretoko again I will stay here. Secondly two important things to note, firstly there is NO COLLECTION from the local train station (shiretoko-shari) this is a 40min bus journey to Utoro Onsen (which they will collect you from). Also despite being advertised on hotels.com as including breakfast only, it actually included breakfast AND dinner. All food served was of a superb standard, the seafood in particular is so fresh and included delicacies such as hairy crab and kinki fish, all ingredients were local and prepared in house. Both breakfast and dinner had approx 10 courses which were different each night, I advise if you have allergies to let the staff know in advance. The owners don't have much English but the staff speak very good English and are wonderfully helpful and the whole establishment feels welcoming and homely. There are both public Onsen and private onsen, the private onsen is outdoors and if you are as fortunate as i was then you get a really good view of the stars in the night sky, lots of shooting stars and satellites seen overhead. The room are Ryokan style with futons which I found comfortable and are kept very clean.If you arnt visiting shiretoko to hike or see the local wildlife you may struggle for things to do.Honestly of all the places I have stayed in two decades of travelling this has been my favourite, i do not say so lightly, it was a true pleasure to stay.
