Hotel Rebun

We agree with the reviewer who liked this hotel. Our experience was excellent right from the start, when we were welcomed by an English-speaking member of staff who sorted out all our needs. It's located right by the ferry, so easy to find (but not noisy - nothing could be noisy on Rebun). The rooms were comfortable, the 7th floor onsen with outdoor pool overlooking the bay was great, the food really excellent and the staff helpful at all times. Rebun is a beautiful island, we'd love to have stayed longer.

Our experience of Hotel Rebun couldn't have been more different from the previous reviewer writing in English. We would whole heartedly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Rebun Island. The hotel is right by the ferry terminal and bus stops, so you can't miss it. Check in doesn't open until 3 pm, but you can leave your bags if you come in on an earlier ferry. We had a Japanese room for 3 (room 503), which had that lovely tatami mat smell.  The room was typical of similar hotels on Hokkaido, with the usual low table and chairs on tatami mats, plus western chairs and a table on a narrow carpeted area. There is no air conditioning, but there is a fan and the windows have insect screens. 
Being so very close to the ferry terminal, you do hear the blast of the ferry (probably the whole of Rebun Town does) but our transport-mad son loved watching the ferries come and go, and otherwise it was quiet.   In theory we should have had a wonderful view of Rishiri Island from our room, but the sea fog meant that the most we got to see was a shadowy shape in the distance. The food is a highlight of staying here. We had elaborate Kaiseki meals, with lots of delicious items. The meals were different each day, but included fish, crab, sashimi and things we didn't recognise but enjoyed trying. The quality was very high. 
The staff speak little English but were charming and always tried their very best. Front desk had some notes in English for us to read regarding times for meals and the onsen. The onsen on the top floor has two indoor baths, which alternate between men and women. One of these also has access to a small outdoor bath on the roof. There is a sign in English so you know which one to go to at any given time. The top floor also has a coin laundry, with washing powder provided. 
Downstairs is a coffee shop that does good coffee and ice cream, but it is only open from 9-4. If you can't wait for your morning caffeine fix you will need to bring some packets of drip coffee with you (there is a hot water machine in the room) 
We really enjoyed our three day stay here. The only thing that could have been better was the weather.

Good service n room faces the port n sea. Spent 2 nights here. Staff at front desk speak some English. The most costly rooms I stayed during my trip (about sgd $540 a night including breakfast n dinner ) but it’s more comfortable in the sense that the hotels here r better than in Rishiri n you are at the doorstep of the trails. Besides u would want to stay at the transport hub of Kafuka 

Stayed in a non-smoking twin room for 2 nights. Room is small but offers great views of Mt. Rishiri. Hotel is conveniently located opposite the ferry terminal. Staff are friendly and offers good advice on hiking. Only downside is there is no wifi in the room.

A great choice on Rebun Island

Nice stay!

I've stayed at quite a few onsen hotels throughout Japan and not usually the one to give a negative comment. However, on this occasion I've found this hotel totally unacceptable. We have put in a comment that we must have a "non-smoking room" (as I'm asthmatic) only to find after check-in that the room is allocated is wreaked of cigarette smoke. We went downstairs immediately to advise them on this only to receive a response of "sorry, we're fully booked and cannot change rooms". They've even handed us a cigarette smoke deodorizer spray to spray it ourselves. After using half a bottle, the room still smells. I had to keep the windows wide open in order to breathe.How about better communication of letting us in advance that there is no "non-smoking" rooms so we can book somewhere else. Overall, a horrible experience. Definitely will not be back and will not recommend to our family and friends.
