Sanyanagitei Ryokan

We came to Unazukionsen to spend three days in the area. San Yanagitei is not in the center of the town, but on the other side of the Kurobe River. Still, it is within an easy walking distance of the Kurobe Gorge Train and the center of the town. Our room was most comfortable and spacious. While we did not have a private hot spring bath, the inn offered a "family bath" for a small additional price which we used every night. A few points: 1. The food was absolutely delicious and very nicely served in our room. Some of the best ryokan fare we have been served! 2. The private "family bath" was great, but guests must bring their own towels, soap, toiletries, etc. to the bath. This is abnormal -- most family baths ("kashikiri") are equipped with towels, soap, shampoo, conditioner, etc. We ended up bringing our own bathing items to the bath with us -- no problem, but an unnecessary hassle. 3. The rooms on the first floor should be avoided if you cannot sleep with the noise generated by the pumps, fans, etc. for the public baths beneath the rooms. The ryokan could not have been more accommodating to our needs. The management apologised many time for the lack of amenities in the family bath. When we complained about the noise in our room, we were given a room on the fifth floor for sleeping, but did not have to change rooms for our meals, belongings, etc. Thus, in our mind, the hotel scores very high on the enterprising scale, being able to adjust to problems. All in all, we enjoyed our stay here. If we return to Unazuki, we will surely consider staying at San Yanagitei.
