Zamamia International Guesthouse

I stayed at Zamami International Guesthouse when I came to Zamami, and the guy running it was so friendly, and so helpful. He found out I was snorkelling from dawn to dusk every day, and organised for me to go on a snorkelling trip further out to sea to see even more spectacular reef and fish. And arranged for me to borrow an underwater camera for a morning to take out snorkelling. He also knew I was on my own there and took me out to dinner a couple of times and ordered a selection of local things to try which was so sweet (and it wasn’t in a creepy way at all 🤣). I couldn’t recommend it more. The staff were so helpful, and Zamami is hands down the most beautiful place I have ever been to in my life.

Visited here for a meal whilst exploring Zamami. Pizzas and burger were on the menu and the burger blew my expectations completely. It wasn’t just good for a tiny island where I assumed getting non traditional ingredients would have decreased the quality a little but it was good for any burger place in the world. So if you’ve had your fill of traditional Okinawa dishes I couldn’t recommend eating here any more  

The island is not very commercial or touristy. The accommodations are exactly what you pay for and it is a great setup.  There is a lot to do on the island so long as you are into exploring and not needing constant supervision.

Great friendly staff serve the greatest burger, not just on the island, but the best burger ever! Great coffee and pizza just make the experiance even better!  If you go to Zamami, pay them a visit, you wont regret it 😀

Advice:This guesthouse isn't provided with kitchen for guests, but guests can use an electric pot, toaster and refrigerator. If you eat bread for breakfast, be sure to bring some from Naha, because I was not able to discover any bread for breakfast in a grocery shop on this island. If you eat breakfast out, I recommend 'sabaidee cafe' or 'Zamami fishery cooperative'.

I've spent 4 nights in this guesthouse ! Staff is nice and place is clean ! i honestly liked the fact that you can have a meal in their restaurant ( which is actually one curtain away from your dormitory room) ! I never had the feeling to sleep in a kitchen ( no bad smell at all ) and above all after 10pm ALWAYS silence, they are very attentive about it and i liked this a lot !Bathroom small but come on you don't go there to sleep in it  and shower room is big and comfy enough ! They rent everything you might need on the small island ! for this price i can only advice to go there !!!

Zamamia is really cute and charming, 3 minutes from the main port and 15 minutes walking distance to both of the main beaches. The WiFi was good, and the beds large and comfortable. The guesthouse isn’t very big, but there is a nice common area (which becomes a burger and pizza restaurant in the evenings). The restaurant and all common areas - including outside -  shut down at 10pm so guests can have peace and quiet, as the dorms lead off from the main area and are only divided by a curtain. The noise was never an issue anyway.

The showers were great, although the toilets weren’t too nice, however they are cleaned thoroughly every morning. There are no real cooking facilities for guests to use, although there is a hot water dispenser and a microwave. Some reviews have commented on the staff and I do understand what they’re saying - the staff are a little detached and don’t have much to do with the guests, but they were always polite and courteous, and I appreciated their help and advice. Thank you guys!

Best place to be in Japan

Best burger  - ever!

If you're on a budget and have lowish standards, then this place will do just fine, otherwise try and find a slightly more expensive alternative.
I was a walk-in and stayed for two nights in the 10-bed-mixed-dorm which was divided only by a curtain from the common/reception/bar area AND also functions as the walk-through room for the neighbouring female dorm -> in addition to the wooden floor this is not the best environment for light sleepers. Also, the beds only had thin futons and no proper mattresses.
I really liked the showers as they were big with good water pressure and wide shelves to keep your clothes dry.
The whole place wasn't superclean, but not exactly dirty either - it just looks a little run down which I guess makes it feel a bit "unclean".
When you come back in the evening to hang out in the common area, there may not be enough space as hostel guests share that space with the dinner guests - makes it much livelier, though, so just cram in somewhere.
Unfortunately, there is only one power outlet and the lights get turned off at ten (as to not attract any more burger seekers after closing the restaurant), so socialising has to be done elsewhere.
The WIFI is not that great, but I think this is okay in a "secluded island setting".
Lastly, I'd also like to mention the "staff issue". Having worked in and stayed at many hostels myself, I know that even the grimiest, loudest, most problematic place can steal every guest's heart and leave a good impression if the people working there are warm and welcoming and share their love for and knowledge about the place they call (even just temporarily) home. It's not even about going above and beyond; a personal touch is all it takes. And you'd think on a small Okinawan island even more so than a big northern city this is almost a given.
But while being generally friendly, the entire staff of Zamami International Guesthouse was lacking all of this.

Cheapest plece on Zamami, but don't expect too much

We had originally booked the private room but this became unavailable due to the leak in the room during the off season. We ended up staying in the mix dorm which was basically the corridor of the restaurant behind a big curtain. The staff were nice enough to give us a discount due to this and also arranged our laundry free of charge. The hostel facilities were decent, clean showers and bathroom and the burgers served in the restaurant was amazing! It's a shame the staff were not as friendly, they didn't really provide any information about the island and just got on with their jobs and were not warm as you'd expect from hosts.
