Awesome, atmospheric place to stay a mere minutes walk from the park made this the perfect place for visiting to view the blossoms. The hospitality of the host was also unmatched with great recommendations of the area!

I've been to the Ishiba Ryokan in Winter 2016 and have unfortunately never given a review to this place. I'm sorry, Ishiba-San! It is very traditional yet homely, not too crowded, with comfortable futon beds and incredibly friendly staff. The owner showed us around in Hirosaki in perfect English, so we could really enjoy the local experience. I don't think there is a better place to stay in Aomori and to this day I think back to it.

Perfect Stay in Gorgeous Traditional Ryokan

We had a thoroughly relaxing overnight stay at Ishiba Ryokan.  The owners’ hospitality exceeded expectation, even driving us to a local restaurant.  The on-site onsen was soothing and the traditional beds comfortable.  It was a wonderful experience.

Warm and Welcoming Ryokan

We stayed in a non-smoking family room overlooking a peaceful garden. Aomori in springtime mimics winter with snow still fluttering about. We arrived on a chilly Saturday. Mr Ishiba and his wife Kaori welcomed us to our cozy room which they had heated up, ready for our arrival. Tea and cookies were set out for us.  The on-site onsen was soothing and a unique experience. Yukata robes are provided.  Mr Ishiba made restaurant suggestions and even drove us.  As part of our stay, we had complimentary local apple wine at the quirky bar next door.  Overall we had a thoroughly relaxing visit and hope to return. 

Warm and Welcoming Ryokan in Charming Hirosaki 

Our stay took us back in time due to the ryokan’s historic past.  It’s rustic charm, welcoming owner and helpful staff made for a memorable experience.

I went to Hirosaki for the Sakura. Preferably authenticity, I wanted to stay in a Ryokan rather than a standard hotel and I quickly found a real gem in the genre: as soon as I walked from the station taking a nice walk through the city, I was sure that I had arrived at the right address: a warm and professional day by the owner, the place breathes a rich history of its centuries-old walls, old woods and typically Japanese hotels. I especially took care and enjoyed the room on the tatami floor, the small opening ceremony: a small bar offered by the owner of the hotel.

Formidable experience

The boss is very kind to send us to the train station.he also give us a welcome drinklikely if you inform early he will be able to provide you transport if he is freewalking distance to hirosaki castle

The owner was so helpful, the rooms were great and breakfast was delicious. A beatiful original hotel that dates back to the late 1800's. Tastefully decorated and warm and cosy. The owner excelled with helping us find and enjoy the local restaurants and organising some complex travel needs, even taking some of us to a local hot baths. The Members bar next door is quirky and fun. This was our first 2 nights in Japan on this trip and it really showed how caring and helpful the local people are. Would definitely stay again.

Traditional Japanese hotel

Perfect central location to Hirosaki Castle and sights.  Very walkable.  This is wonderful for the budget traveler looking to experience a traditional Japanese ryokan.

Just to get the only negative out of the way, keeping a 100+ year old building updated isn't easy. For example, the indoor plumbing is exposed in the restroom. That's really all I have for a negative comment. Moving on...The people running this place really left a good impression on me. Very attentive. They kept tour information handy, so my first day's adventures were thanks to what was at the front desk. I wasn't just handed the tour guide, we walked through it together. I was told the cafe at one of the gardens is really good, so I ate there, and had to agree. Also, because there was a festival going on (Neputa), those who wanted to go were  walked to two rows of reserved chairs 15 minutes before things got started. Oh, and the seats were conveniently located between a couple of food stalls.The room was nice as well. The standard futon, tatami mats, and tea set (and hot water container delivered outside your door twice a day). I also had a nice view of a little garden.
