Read an earlier review about the hotel not having modern appointments but still being a gem because of the service. I completely agree. I doubt if you’ll find better value in Hakuba. The owners were very accommodating from start to finish – making changes to the number of people in the rooms (had 2, 3 and 5), dropping us off at the Happo Bus Terminal twice, dropping us off at the Goryu slopes because Happo’s beginner slopes weren’t open and being able to sign up for breakfast the night before and dinner the day of. The owners were fantastic and the hotel grew on us the longer we stayed. The meals were fabulous and a great value. The breakfast had both western and Japanese touches and the best meal we had in Japan was a dinner of nabemono, soba, sashimi and miso saba. If were ever in Hakuba again we’re staying at the Hotel El Mayo.
